Thats weird, I got mine at Launch and the screen isn't dead. Have you been hitting it repeatedly like Elite Beat Agents crazily? If I was you I would get a DS Lite since its cheap and its better than the old chunky DS.
Perhaps you need to tap that some more?

A fault in a nintendo product, now thats rare. Does the bottom screen show an image? if so there might just be a loose connection. You may be able to fix it if you are willing to open your ds up.

Not really, broken hinges with ds and the bricking of wii from early firmware and overheating of wii consoles.

Well i did say rarely, the ds hinge cracks occurred in about 0.02% of ds lites.
And compared to the RROD, thats pretty damn good. Sorri bout the off topic,

That makes no sense, its pretty illogical and pointless comparing a console with problems to one that supposedly "rarely" gets any. Compared to the PS3 I'd say its poor not to mention Wii isnt very technical.

0.02% sounds pretty odd especially one that Nintendo took personal intervention. Unless you're including current handheld, which (is odd) would mean it has fault.

I had my DS break down before, the console would crash while in the middle of a game. I just sent it back to Nintendo to be repaired even though it was fairly expensive to repair out of warranty but still cheaper than buying another DS.

Are you sure you just don't need to re-calibrate the screen? If it is screwed, I'd use it as an excuse to upgrade to a DS Lite.

This is proberly a good idea. since the screen doesn't work you'll have to use the d pad.

(if the calibrator doesn't work your ds is stuffed. you'll need a need a new one)

p.s. Nintendo's warranty dosen't cover 'broken' screens.

If it was me I wouldn't be to angry because if you have the money its well worth the upgrade to the DS Lite like Qbert points out. I remember when I upgraded from the Phat and the difference was massive - the Phats screen is so hard to see in comparison while the Lite shows off the vibrant colors that most of the Nintendo games comprise of. I do hope you get it fixed though, it sucks having electronics stuff up.
