i absolutely despise icons on my desktop. i use quicklaunch, be able to load programs from any window isntead of having to go to start or desktop. so quicklaunch is perfect for me.
also, just got a working DVD drive, so im installing all the games i lost when my HDD crashed, which is why its so bare of games atm. installing stalker atm, and still to instal are: quake 4, FEAR (and extraction point), supreme commander, and C+C3. oh and CoD2 of course!

Nice, but I cannot STAND having the taskbar at the bottom any higher than the single unit..
Im not sure why i have icons on my desktop, since i launch pretty much everything out of steam or xfire....

^i never used to be able to, and i used to always have tons of icons, but then my uncle showed me his PC when i was visiting, and i saw how much easier it was and i was hooked just like that, i pretty much instantly changed mine, and everything became so much easier. i was annoyed at first with the double line aswell, but got used to it, and having a larger bar for all the open windows helps alot aswell. if i were to have that on 1 line nothing would fit and it would be very hard to navigate, and id probably have to cut down that list, which pretty much makes it useless lol. but the 2 line startbar is pretty much perfect for me, works very well, quick and easy, and can do it with photoshop, firefox, or anything else open, without having to go to desktop or go into the start menu. _________________

It seems nobody but me turns off all their pretty effects and fancy shadows to cut down on memory and cpu usage. Windows NT Theme FTW! _________________

I would use it if say I only had to hold my mouse over an icon in the corner to see all my quick launch thing, now that would be cool, instead of having an extra bar _________________

theres a way to do that... you have to click a small button, not hover over it, but its similar to what you want. you can also drag it to the other side of the taskbar (far right, near clock) or far left (near the startbar). but you have to have the first 3, you cant make it any smaller, and theres no option that i could find to only have 1 or just the pop-up window, but oh well... its still an option

I know that its a little busy for a desktop wallpaper, and makes the icon text a bit hard to read - but I've just recently read my way from start to finish through the Sam & Fuzzy archives, so I'm still loving Skull Panda and his taste for kittens.
Oh, IIRC, this is shrunk down from 1280*1024 res. Yeah, yeah... I'm still using a plain old 19" CRT. _________________

I was going to adjust it so it was smaller, but to Hell with you, if your screen stretches, buy a better monitor.
MOD EDIT: to hell with you - use thumbnails.

had that wallpaper forever - i swap every now and then, but i always seem to end up back with it. actually looking for a new one for a while, no idea what i want though - i usually go for something concept-y from games, but nothing has really caught my eye for a while.
i also dislike unorganised desktop icons. do tend to end up with heaps of text documents on there, that i clean off every now and then (i deleted about 15 of them before i took the screengrab) but otherwise, that's pretty much how mine looks all the time.
and yeah - i shrunk the screen-grab down a lot. i didn't initially think of using imageshack's thumbnail thing . _________________

SIN DUDE! WTF ARE YOU LOOKING UP?!
And in that lies the question - are you good at oral sex?
Anyways, my desktop. Usually wouldn't have all the icons on the left.

Could your dock be any bigger?
For the future, Cmd+Shift+3 does full screen captures (4 does a selection 4 + Space does single windows) without having to open Grab.

^ Thanks nikack. Yeah, I cleaned my dock up before I took that shot, but looking at it, it is a bit large isn't it?
Cleaned up now. No more of the icons that I never use.

Here be mine (compressed from 1280x1024, yep a good ol' 19" behemoth). I only keep games that I'm currently playing on the desktop, I have a few more installed on this machine. This is actually running a reskinned XP if anyone thinks I'm running Vista. The skin is a theme hack so minimal strain is put on resources.
