Another thing about the word Salvation is that it implies this is the last chapter and that at the end humanity will be saved and everything will be tied up so to speak. I honestly think we'll see the name of this change before it's released.

Well actually the Sarah Connor Chronicles should be a part of the new US television season, most likely starting up around January. It stars Summer Glau of Firefly and Serenity fame, so unfortunately I dont see the series getting to a full 22 episodes before being cancelled. There will be a number of people watching the show, but the network wont get the numbers they would have hoped for so they will pull the plug on the series before it gets going.

I'm pretty sure the pilot has already been aired in the US, as I saw it on a few torrent sites at the end of July. From what I've read, quite a few terminator fans were pleasantly surprised with the pilot.

Was counting down the days for T3 to hit the theatres, but Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins with McGay? No thanks. However I do think Vin Diesel could work. Will have to wait and see I suppose...

I get that "Salvation" refers to the rescue of the human race from the machines, but i personally think it's the wrong word.

in terms of the name as a whole - i have less issue with the "Salvation" part than i do with "The Future Begins" part. this is completely nonsensical. what does it mean?

The Future Begins with every moment, this is correct. As for the title using it, it could be either a more colloquial term (like 'this is the first day of the rest of my life') or it could mean they are finally writing a new future as against rewriting the past.

The vague oxymoron they use by putting Salvation in the title (as rodvcpetrie said its a finalising word) could be to reference the back and forwards through time bit that the entire Terminator series uses

I know someone did a fake version on youtube, but the way the terminator movies are now playing out and how the Robocop series turned they should try and revive the series by doing a "Robocop vs Terminator" movie much like "Aliens vs Predator" icon_lol.gif

This is some big casting news for Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins (hopefully this title will change) and it is pretty much unbelievable and a totally left field development.

This actor who has been cast has either been cast as a Terminator or John Connor. There hasn't been an official announcement as to which character but the actor in question is....

Christian Bale. Yep Batman himself has been cast in the film as either a Terminator or John Connor.

http://www.moviehole.net/news/20071122_terminator_rise_of_the_marsupi.html

The script must be something very special and hopefully we'll be in for a quality film. This has elevated my expectations but I am not 100% positive about this fourth installment yet.

But this is some interesting news and we may be in for a surprise.

heh, it's funny but initially i read that as:
"Yep Bateman himself"
and was almost about to correct you. amazing how 1 letter can change the intent, but still be valid.

anyway, that's good news. i can see Bale as an elder Edward Furlong somehow. moreso than Nick Stahl anyway.

this casting almost gives me hope for the film. i still can't say i'm 100% looking forwards to it after the atrocity of T3, but i'm willing to say there's some intrigue now.

Well since Christian Bale is going to be in T4, this will be on my "must watch" list.

Pretty much every role he's taken has failed to dissappoint so I'm now quite optimistic about T4. Especially loved his character in Equilibrium.

T1 & T2 will always be the real Terminator Series for me. T2 is one of my favourite movies of all time. Vin Diesel? What could they be thinking?

I like the fact that Vin Diesel might play the Terminator but I don't like the fact it is being directed by the person who directed Charlie's Angels.

John Connor won't just be back. He'll also be bat.

The Dark Knight himself, Christian Bale, has signed on to star as the heir to the cyborg-battling rebellion in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, the long-awaited fourth installment in the Terminator franchise.

However, reports have also been circulating that Bale's role, despite the party tag line, will not be as leading as it seems and that while Connor will indeed lead the rebellion, the next batch of films will actually feature a different character at the center of the action.

Taken from here. So Bale will indeed be John Connor

Awesome news Bale is certainly one of the best actors out there at the moment and should bring over alot of crowds to the movie.

I actually enjoyed the third movie but so many fans seem to hate it with a passion, so I hope this movie lives up to everyones expectations - cant wait to see how it turns out.

^ i didn't mind the third film in general terms, but in the context of Terminator films, it was appalling.
i thought the premise was interesting, despite the obvious fan-servicing by having a female terminator, but the devil was in the details. James Cameron wrote his plots with great care that holds up to close scrutiny, but T3 was pretty much scratch the surface and it all falls apart.

i would like to say that my expectations for the fourth film are high, but despite Vin Diesel and Christian Bale's greatest, i can't help but think it'll be torn down by McG's sh*tiness.

i also find it interesting that they can continue announcements like this when the film is in a legal blackhole at the moment. Halcyon (the owners of the Terminator License) have an injunction against MGM at the moment because distribution negotiations weren't concluded to Halcyon's satisfaction, and they are seeking a new partner for the film.

i'm more interested in seeing what comes about from The Sarah Connor Chronicles personally. with David Nutter as a writer, it has potential. (in addition to starring Summer Glau and Garret Dillahunt).
the fact that it ignores the events of Terminator 3 is just a bonus.

Some new plot details have emerged. Please be aware that the link I'm posting will contain spoilers. This hasn't been officially announced yet so at this point they are rumours.

Here are the plot details:

RE: Terminator 3

I agree with you Obs. Also there is a consistency in tone and feel between the first two films which isn't continued in the third installment. I think this is important. Terminator 3 is the watered down version and I don't think they treated the first two films with respect. I have a suspicion that Jonathan Mostow's claims he was a fan weren't sincere. I mean he even ignored details like the age of John Connor, something small I know but if you're a fan of a series and are hired to continue it, surely you still do research so there's a continuity.

It's not beneath studios to encourage their director or others involved to resort to making fans believe they are a huge fan of the previous films to lull them into a false sense of security.

That's a weird release date, I thought T2 and T3 were released on the July 4 weekend in the US. Night at the Museum, was that Ben Stiller's flick? If so there'll be some stiff competition for the first weekend's takings.

Also, the news is now a couple weeks old but I haven't seen it discussed here, but Aussie actor Sam Worthington apparently has the leading role for all three movies:

Never even heard of the bloke. The article says he was in Avatar, is he in any other recent movies?

i think it was in the dvd special features for T3 that arnie or someone was saying that if T3 was successful they would go for a terminator 4, but since then Arnie has become gov of california, so probably no arnie, gay, the tv series: sarah conor chronicles is good but it doesn't seem like terminator, im still waiting for arnie to break through the door with a catch phrase. The actors and special effects have many flaws, but i guess thats because unlike movies, tv shows have a very low budget. I can't wait for a Terminator that is based in the future with some sweet SFX.
