Well... I know at least one other person on PALGN used to play Warhammer 40,000 and there are probably a bunch of other people on here that play one game or another that has its roots in Rogue Trader,
So heres the thread to bring out your best painted models from whatever game what ever rules set and have a chat about your particular painting tips and colour schemes or just to proudly show of your best model(s) and scenery
(BTW this includes Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer fantasy, Lord of the Rings, Blood Ball, Necromunda, Battle Fleet Gothic, Rogue Trader and any other Games Workshop game) _________________ there are 10 types of people in this world. those that know binary and those that dont

i've played a great many Games Workshop games over the years, though not for quite some time.
the armies/teams i used to field/collect were:
Warhammer Fantasy: Chaos - Khorne and Tzeentch
Blood Bowl: Chaos, Undead
Necromunda: Spyre Hunters, Van Saar
Mordheim: Beastmen Raiders, Cult of the Possessed, Carnival of Chaos (all Chaos teams)
Warhammer Quest: Pit Fighter, Chaos Warrior
Lord of the Rings: i never actually played this properly, so i didn't collect any side in particular, but i subscribed to the magazine for a long time and collated quite a few miniatures.
as you can see, i definitely favoured the chaotic/evil races in the fantasy games, mostly because it was cheaper because i could cross-populate my armies/teams. i didn't really go in for painting the models though - i think i did a handful before i realised i totally sucked at doing it, and reading White Dwarf and the like just disheartened me, seeing how good some people were at it.
i used to make quite a lot of battleground pieces though. like sludge pools for Necromunda, hills and ruins for Warhammer Fantasy/Mordheim. i don't know if any have survived to now though - it's been a good 10 years since i've actually played any of the games properly.
now i pretty much play skirmishes in Dawn of War, Mark of Chaos, and there's a java-based Blood Bowl emulator sanctioned by Games Workshop/Jarvis Jones that i used to play quite often too.
i'm keen to see what other people are capable of. _________________

Ditto that, 'cept replace 'Tao' with 'Eldar'. I bought the codex and about 400 points of units, and then I realized that there was no way in Hell that I could pay for warhammer, gaming, and drinking.
I think that, in the end, I made the right choice of which one to drop
That aside, I think I got more than my $40 worth out of that codex - say what you want about the costs of the game, the fiction behind it is fantastic! _________________

haha, yeah it's damned expensive.
i started collecting it in year 8, so i was 12/13. i honestly cannot fathom how i was able to afford so much of it then, when i didn't have a job, nor did i have parents who would buy my love.
like i said though, the motivation behind sticking with Chaos was mostly monetary - good to know i had some smarts even back then.
(it was just a bonus that they were always easily my favourite race) _________________

Yeah Chaos was always a pretty cool race but for me, i'm really in for either the really righteousness with the white armor and cloaks stuff witch hunters i think, or the really cool robots x3 like tao but i always tried to somehow think of ways to partner up with Chaos if my friends were playing and let me borrow his more complete tao set while he would play with Chaos. _________________

i just realised another benefit to choosing Chaos/Undead:
if you're a sh*thouse painter, then it doesn't matter so much as they're supposed to be decaying and rotten, so they aren't badly painted, they're supposed to have running colours, and so on. _________________

add me to the list of people who wanted to get into it, but never had the money, time etc
I tried:
Undead - after playing one match at Games Workshop when passing through with a friend, he was Dwarfs and i was undead, i found it cool that the leader could bring people back from the dead, when other teams and units once they died they were gone forever. Have a few now, but never played with them let alone painted them well, was meaning to sell them on Ebay
Imperial Guard - i liked their camo gear, battle tanks and such so wanted to collect them to. Have a Lemun (sorry bout spelling) Russ tank, and some other strays (including Ogryn's) but thats as far as it went
Elder - their swiftness/run-and-gun tactics drew me in. Bought a regiment of standard fighter's (don't know technical terms), put some together, got a bit confused with the rules (point values etc) thats all i ever did, and look at the cool colour schemes other people had.
and finally: The 40K starter set - with some Dark Elder and Space Marines, scenery etc to learn the rules, but it just sits there now
I probably should just sell the bits and bobs on Ebay and get into the Video Games of it as its: less time spent on painting, a lot less money spent, and easier to pick up and play
I have nothing against those that do play and like it, if you like it continue playing..., but it never really caught on for me _________________

I bought this September's edition of White Dwarf partly inspired by DoW. Decided I'll look carefully at each race, D/Led the Blood Ravens codex yada yada and if you can actually get a army up and painted WH might be fun and worthwhile.
Does anyone know when WD is out each month, it's the 6th and September is still up?
(I bought the LotR battle chest when I was Yr 7 years ago, painted three units got intimidated and loss them all now, advice buy small amounts of unit at a time or you'll never get around to painting them.)

Well... since I started the thread I may as well contribute,
Since I started playing Warhammer 40,000 (also known simply as 40k) I have played three separate races
I started with the Tyranids, being that I was I little younger the thought of playing an insectoid, highly alien and thoroughly not of our universe eating machine with a hive mind, really suckered me in but I could never get a handle on the tactics to use them. As such I only ever ended up buying 1 squad of Genestealers, which were painted in the time honored ability of an anxious 13 year old holding a paintbrush for the first time. (To translate it was utter... well you understand )
The second race I played was the Eldar, and this was mainly because a) I'd given up on the tyranids and b) my brother had moved out and left me his army, My brother has returned and this army now officially belongs to both of us because of the effort we both put into increasing the size and usability of it. Now totaling somewhere around the 5000 point mark and around $1000 dollars in miniatures (not including time and paint invested in them) it is by far the most impressive of all of our armies,
The latest race I've played is the Necron, an ancient race back from the dead to haunt the younger races and restart their ancient technology for the conquering of the universe, how could I go wrong, right? Little did I know just how much an army of Necrons would cost... and just how different they are to the Eldar.
Eldar = fast, agile, shooty and versatile
Necron = slow, tough, single minded and totally in for close quarters shooting matches
I have now started dabbling in Warhammer fantasy as the night goblins but I'm thinking about switching over to the Ogre Kingdoms while my brother is flipping a coin between the dwarves and high elves. _________________ there are 10 types of people in this world. those that know binary and those that dont

Cant tell you the exact date that each issue comes out but I can recommend going to the Games Workshop Australia website to find out more.
P.S. Sorry about posting twice in a row on the same thread, just though it was aappropriate in this case. _________________ there are 10 types of people in this world. those that know binary and those that dont

I used to have a Dark Angels army. 2 dreanaughts, 1 whirlwind, 6 terminators (I think, the fat men that own), a speeder, Azrael, Ezekiel and 3 squads of troops. Sold it because I didn't really know anyone that plays.

Three battle forces, two Space Wolves Squads, a pair of Grey Knights in Power Armour squads and more I can't name off the top of my head.
This battle report has heaps of Chaos, an entire company of Ultramarines (100ish models) a lot of Imperial Guard, 4 or 5 maybe even 6 Baneblade super heavy tanks, two titans as well as a Thunderhawk and various other aircraft.

Chaos (40k). my one and only army.
I never really liked the fantasy world, although i did dabble in Vampires, but decided that sticking to Iron Warriors would be better.
I currently have about 1.5k-2k points, consisting of:
1 lord, 1 squad of converted marine terminators, 3 or 4 squads of chaos marines, 1 squad of havocs, 2 obliterators, 1 defiler, 1 predator, 1 rhino partway into being converted into a...something i forget what. (a space marine tank, no longer in production, allowed to iron warriors because of special codex rules, has a str 10, ap 1 gun, short range..... the name evades me..)
Also, when i ducked into GW quickly the other day, i noticed there was a new Chaos codex... I may have to go and pick this up, just for the fluff (if its new). _________________
