We've got a thread for that crap footy code, we need one for the AFL since its coming up to its biggest week. So...
Who do you think is going to win the Brownlow? It really is hard to see anyone but Gary Ablett taking it, but theres been plenty of upsets before, and Chad Cornes has to be damn close (but I'm biased). As a roughie, I think Andrew Mcleod should do quite well too, as he should get the heavy majority of the Crows' votes.
And the big one, who is going to win the Grand Final? I'm a Port supporter (/feral), so I'm pretty biased, but I think its going to be extremely evenly matched. Geelong has had an extra day break, but Port really only played 3 quarters tonight and just cruised through the fourth, so I wouldn't think fitness should be a factor, which should just mean it'll be even closer. And with our form in the last month or so of winning games by less than a goal, a close game could be in our favour. Maybe.
So yeah, what do we think?
(Also this thread is pretty much an excuse to go "yay, I'm gonna be there next Saturday") _________________

^Lucky, that's one of the things I want to tick off my list. Going to either the AFL final or ANZAC match weould be sweet. Porbably the equivilent of going to the SoO in league.
I agree about the brownlow and have money riding on Gary Ablett, but like you said, there've been upsets before.
As for the GF, my team is the Lions (and second team Carlton which doesn't really help unless you count preseason ) so I don't mind too much. I hate Collingwood who got knocked out and am still bitter at port for the 2004 win (bwing a Lions fan) so I'll definatly be chearing Geelong next week. _________________

As a Crows supporter i am praying for the Cattery to beat port and beat them easily. Living in SA for the next year after Port win a flag would would be horrible.
As for the Brownlow McLeod will poll well as will Chad Cornes. _________________

^ No, nor an ice party.
As an avid Port supporter, and after going to nearly all the games this year and being at the Kangaroo-slaying, I'm hoping for a Port upset in the grand final.
If anyone can do it, its Port. Even if they lose, they got there, that's enough for me. They're going to be awesome over the next few years.
Too bad I probably cant go to the grand final, damn new job..
Oh, and possibly Chad for the Brownlow, but its just too hard to pick..

I'm not an AFL fan by any means so I'm not going to try and guess who'll win the Brownlow Medal or the Grand Final. It would definitely be cool to go to the Grand Final. 90,000+ people packed into the MCG would create an awesome atmosphere. I did a tour of the MCG yesterday before going to the Storm vs Eels league game. My god the ground is huge. I swear you must need an oxygen tank to breathe at the top of the stands. If anyone hasn't done a tour of the MCG, I highly recommend it.
@ DIU-How much where your tickets, where are you sitting and when did you get them?

Not sure exactly where they are yet, but they're standard tickets (so basically the cheapest ones where we actually get a seat, not just standing room), set us back $160 for an adult ticket and $100 for mine (concession). As we're Port season ticket (and anchor or whatever they're called) holders we got to prebook them last week for a $10 deposit, so we did that.
I went in 2004 too, and it was really cool, great atmosphere. But this year should be even better, with it being a Victorian club (seriously nobody in Melbourne cared in 2004) and the ground is actually fully built (there were "only" 60-70,000 in 04 as the ground was still getting renovated).
And yeah, the top stands (we were in the top stand about half way up last time, I assume we're there-ish again) really are high - when you first get to your seats you feel like you're going to fall. _________________

Wow, Ablett only got 20, which surprises me.
As a Lions fan (also support the swans when it's convenient ), it's good to see Simon Black up there in the votes. He's been solid all year, and a great center point for Brisbane's mid field, with a great amount of possessions.
I haven't watched a great deal of Geelongs games, but I guess I'm guilty of being one to say "when will they choke?". I think this year they may be in with the goods. It'll be great for AFL if they win. _________________

Bartel was a desrving winner I guess, I just thought him missing the last few games would have gotten him pipped at the post. Turned out to be a bit of a blowout, really. A Shaun Burgoyne Port's highest? I said wow.
And as for the seats, turns out we're in the more expensive seats - $200 or so for an adult, $130 for me. But that means rather than being in the nosebleed section, we're on the ground level - specifically row F on the forward flank (section M53 on http://www.essendonfc.com.au/images/mcg_seating2006.jpg ). Very different to what I was expecting - but very very good. _________________

Wewt, just found out out I'm going, my Dad bought two tickets for my birthday. You might see me there DIU, If you see an angry, arrogant Geelong supporter, yelling at Port even if Geelong is clearly on the lower end of the score board, that will probably be me.
On a side note, Bartel winning the Brownlow, good stuff. Me and my dad had a bet as to who would win, I had 10 bucks on Ablett.
It was funny to see he didn't have a date to take, on Before the Game he said he had trouble with girls but then he says his girlfriend is in Europe or something, surely an AFL footballer would be able to pick up?
I'm obviously rooting for Geelong, but I reckon Port will give them some tough competiton. Just prayin they don't choke.

He lives in Geelong though... I mean... it's Geelong! Nothing down there. But I was surprised that he's going out with a girl from Denmark (I think...) and that she's over there and he's still in Vic. Ah well.
Had a good feeling all year Bartel was going to win. Worried because he missed the last two games, but he really did have a fantastic year and deserves it. I thought Chad Cornes would've polled higher, and I'm surprised how high Simon Black got.
I'm thinking Port may win, but I really want the Grand Final cup back in Victoria so hopefully the Cats can get up and take the win.
I've gotta pick up my girlfriend from the airport Saturday night so unfortunately can't drink too much during the game Hope it's a close one though, unlike the VFL Grand Final last week... _________________

I made a little money at the tab on a few bets regarding the medal. I would've made more if only Johnathon Brown would've polled more than Simon Black...
Bartel is a very worthy winner and it's no surprise that Cornes didn't poll well as he has a habit of letting the umpires know exactly where they go wrong during a game .... perhaps they should name it the midfielder's medal from now on.
Also i was like a lot of people shocked at how Goodes polled with ease and they say that he's had a poor season.... i think that the umpires love him... don't get me wrong he's a very good player but gee whiz....
Anyway my tip for the grand final is Port but if Geelong win then my nan will be happy as she's been a Geelong supporter all her life so one of us will be happy at 5pm Saturday afternoon.

The only reason I want Geelong to win is because my Pop's been literally waiting a lifetime to see the club win a Premiership while he's been working there. _________________

Haha what a disgrace of a match by Port, hope you had fun dances
Kind of sad to think that all year led up to that, especially becuase we've been spoiled with great matched the past 2 seasons. At least it was a record though, I was glad to say I whitnesed that. _________________

Wow, a group of us got together to watch it, but didn't watch much more after the 1st quarter.
By the 3rd quarter we were having a group session playing GTA San Andreas.
Public humiliation is new to them. Makes me wonder if any other team would've got thrashed as much, but Port never looked like they came to play.

Well at least there was 'history in the making'. Absolutely shocking.
Atmosphere was very good though - from the parade to the packed ground to the cool little retiring-players-walk-into-the-crowd tribute thing. Having Jet play was pretty cool too, especially when you consider that in 04 the pre-game entertainment was fucking Kath and Kim.
So pretty much it was all good except for the little fact that we played like shit. No biggie, really. _________________
