Taken a few weeks back, and before anyone makes comment about the VB let me just say this: There was nothing else!! Prior to that I'd been at a pub drinking beer that doesn't taste like dirty aluminum...
The straw? It amused me... _________________

There's nothing wrong with VB. It's a man's drink. A man walks into a bar and orders VB and you know he's not afraid of nothing.

Nay, a man's drink is grog. If I actually knew what the Hell was in grog, I'd drink it, but I guess such recipes have been lost to the ages. Instead you have to go something with balls, stout beers usually do the trick. The blacker the better.

**** no. Red is foul. VB is very drinkable if it comes out of a tap. A bottle... not so much.
I'll take any proper ale (pale ale =/= proper) thanks, or failing that, Carlton or VB on tap. _________________

Took the words right out of my mouth. Besides, VB is generally pretty cheap round the places I go to ($2-3per pot), it's drinkable and after a handful you've gotten drunk, having a good night thanks to a few cheap beers.
VB out of a bottle... yuck. And a freaking straw!? Crazy redheads. _________________

Ale is FTW.
Proper Bitters are alright - but VB/EB is a Lager, not a Bitter.
Lager is FTL.

meh, i was just adding my opinion on Alcoholic beverages to the mix, and i, for one, can't stand lagers.
which, in a country like Australia, excludes 95% of local beers.
it's handy though, as most people i know don't like Ales or Stouts, so i never had to worry about people nicking my drinks at parties and so on. _________________

Guys, are Pure Blondes socially acceptable for manly men? I was out on town with a girl who thought I was crazy for not wanting to touch the stuff. I was defending myself with 'if it aint makin me fat, it aint working', but apparently every guy she knows drinks it religiously. Is this acceptable practice, gentlemen?! I think not. Who is with me?

Where do you find beers for $2-3? Or is a pot a midi? Even uni charges $3.20 for a schooner of VB, and if it's less than a schooner, if isn't worth drinking.
As for cider, well that's for *offensive term for homosexuals*. Ale owns all, and lager is good if it's a decent quality (Boag's is godly).
Mitch, you were correct. It isn't acceptable for men to drink blonde regularly. It's for the sort of man that really isn't a man but wants to drink beer to look like a man (whilst hiding the label). Man.
God I'm thirsty right now... _________________

Short answer - no.
long answer - Pure Blonde is a Low Fat, Low Carb beer, so of course it's not acceptable for a manly man to be drinking such stuff in public.
a manly man cares not how much fat/carbs are in his beer.
plus it just tastes bland imo.
if you want to drink a Blonde, drink Leffe Blonde, imo.
(we really need a beer thread now)
EDIT - and man did that second last line almost go completely another way... _________________

I'm sure RSLs sometimes go below $3 for a schooner, although low $3 would be typical.

Everything tastes better through a straw! Thats science, you can't argue with science damnit!
I think everyone here needs to meet up and drink through the beer list at the Belgian Beer Cafe, and then through the beer list at Mrs. Parmas... and then we can get into a deep and meaningful about beers (chances are we'll all be flat broke too, if not getting our stomachs pumped) _________________

good choice, there's one in Perth too.
do they have that beer that comes in the glasses that are so expensive you have to leave your shoes in a basket, and a $50 deposit as collateral?
that's good beer.
here's a postcard from the WA one with the glass in shot - they give you fluffy slippers while you drink:
EDIT: ok, when i start posting fake Belgians in the "Post Your Pics" thread, it's getting a little off-topic. NEW THREAD! _________________

I had this in Auckland, made from a boutique brewery there. Lovely stuff, very strong hoppy taste, but I'm craving for something similar here. I'm hoping it takes off over there and they expand their distribution.
Out of the Australian beers, Boags is top of the lagers, and Squires' Amber or Golden Ale is the king of beers, full stop. _________________

YES! I had one of those there just the other week! It. Is. Delicious!
Great name, too - Kwak ... quack!
Seriously tasty beer.

You should try some Red hill Scotch Ale, off the tap it hunkers down and craps all over the Squires Golden Ale IMO (and I love the golden Ale). This may be a little difficult seeing its a Victorian Microbrewery beer, but if you're ever down Melbourne way you can get it by the bottle at Mrs. Parmas. _________________

VB is kinda bottom on the choices of beer I choose! As a general rule of thumb for me, I drink TEDS, some clubs I go to only have Coronas, so I guess I drink them a fair bit as well! But I am not really a big beer drinker makes me fat and want to piss a water fall. So I stick to my bourbon, which mind you I drink a 700ml bottle every time I go out.
As for some good beer, I like going to the Belgium beer cafe in North Sydney! :O They have some great beers there! Next time I go, they supposedly have a $100 bottle of beer, so I gonna give that a wurl! _________________

I'm actually going to the Belgian Beer Cafe next week, never been to the place but from the website it looks like a pretty nice place. Theres certainly a big selection of beer to choose from.. I've also heard the Lowenbrau is meant to be really good, those 1 liter beers sound leathaly good!
Actually I heard from the Belgian Beer Cafe you can get a selection plate which comes with several different beers, only small amounts though and you also get some sausages haha Thats probably what ill end up getting considering the drinks by themselves look pretty expensive and content sizes for most are only like 250ml.
Also everyone here has seem Beerfest right? What beer games have you all played? And has anyone ever done a Das Boot before? (picture below). And Octoberfest is so soon and I'm pretty sure there is some festival thats equivalent here in Sydney also? I think I saw something about it the other day, looks like a hell of a good time

Pfft a pot is alright. Grab a few beers, then you settle for a pint or two.
And RSL? Hell no. There's a lot of places where you can get a pot of VB for about $2 and then I think a pint is $4 something. It varies, obviously. But if in NSW a schooner equals a pint in Melbourne, then $3.20 is pretty good. _________________

lol, I remember having this conversation with Brendan a few weeks ago. You SA and Victorians are crazy.
Based of the following picture: jug, pint, ?, schooner, middy, (thimble?).
As for prices, I don't know any places (well not around where I live anyway) that will do a schooner for under $3.50.
Oh, I need to profess a secret love for Montieths too. Their ale is quite good, their winter ale (I don't think they ship this outside NZ) is lovely, and the Celtic Red is a really nice beer to have before dinner. _________________
