There’s no question Sony had a lot to do with the premature announcement. It was definitely in Sony’s best interests to get the next installment of Final Fantasy generating hype ASAP, which they did. It’s also in Sqeenix’s best interests to get the game out to the largest possible user-base, and I’m guessing that’s why they aren’t as far along as we’d hoped for.

Just like the remade footage of FF7, the initial trailers for both titles were little more than promo footage. Well, not promo footage, but something put together to generate hype and speculation (eh), which it did. Don’t be surprised if it bares little resemblance to the final product.

The “Another Side, Another Story” from Kingdom Hearts was an unlockable clip viewable at the end of the game, created (and modified in Final Mix) to keep people talking, and was altered again come Kingdom Hearts 2 to nothing more than a simple cut-scene. The trailer for KH3 is most certainly something along those same lines, and not to be taken as anything more.

Also, these percentages are becoming ridiculous. Nomura is notorious for pulling numbers he likes/has a psychological connection with. He loves the number 256 (it’s been used a lot in previous installments of the series), and has admitted as much on numerous occasions. At any rate, at these early stages of game/software development, you can’t pull a figure that’s narrowed down to the digit – it’s mockery, and he loves doing it. I really hate reading his “interviews” too!

They do this often and are very good at it. Either way, I can’t wait to get the 2nd full trailer and see how things are coming along. Bring on TGS! icon_cool.gif

You guys are aware its a number pulled from their arse to be 'clever' (lol 13% for FF 13! And 1.3% - thats like 13 - for another FF 13 game! We are so witty), right? I mean its so damn obvious, yet theres a whole bunch of you (above poster excluded) taking it as gospel.

that is what i referred to in my original post. Too implicit, eh? Alright.

Bloody Tears, the number is 255, it is my favourite number, i should know. And there is actually a good reason why it is used. You will find it more commonly in older games. In computing, they use the binary system and 255 is the greatest number you can create with 8-digit binary code. That is why 255 is the maximum lives you can get in the original Mario, the max rupees in the original Zelda title, and the reason why the maximum stat is 255 in the Final Fantasy games. They've kept it that way for a very long time.

There is a lot more behind the number such as it being a Mersenne number, sphenic number and a perfect totient number but the previous reason is the main one. 255 is used for it is such a special number.

As for the percentages given that i alluded to earlier, they were to demonstrate their completion and also to give a more significant number. They can't just say "we're 23% complete", or "14.5% done" because they honestly don't know. Who would? So they gave an approximate figure that had meaning.

Apologies for confusing your favourite number with the following one. It won’t happen again icon_wink.gif

I’m well aware of the binary system, the mistake (if) was made because I was thinking of something he referred to when mentioning it – the item count in FF7. For some reason, I thought (and still do) you could hold 256 items in FF7... or was that FF9? I gotta be honest, I’m not too sure, nor do I have the reference material handy, so I’m just gonna take your word for it because your post looks just like the Wiki page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/255_(number) icon_razz.gif

By the way, a byte can represent 256 values... so my number is just as cool as yours icon_wink.gif

I’m hoping the rest of your post isn’t directed at me...

Just checked wikipedia and it too does have the information i presented, and also a few more interesting facts. Intriguing.

256 is also a very special number and being so close to 255 it is easy to make that error. I simply wanted to clarify the actuality and the significance of 255.

As for my post and any others posts: i do not aim to offend anyone. Again, i was simply stating knowledge. Sorry for anything that was thought to have been an attempt to offend or insult yourself. My apologies.
