my pc keeps crashing for no real reason it could be when i am playing a game or checking for virses . sometimes when i play a game it just closes during loadings

if i feel the top of the pc when it restarts it feels quite hot - if it is to do with heat how could i check it?

some info about my computer

intel pentium 4 cpu 3.00GHz
3.01 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

(just copied from system properties)

thanks

Hmm. Get a copy of memtest86+ and run that to ensure your memory isn't. Then get another program like PiTest or similar to load your CPU, and run that.

Probably the cause is either faulty memory and/or CPU overheating.

Heat could be attributed to many things, since the whole computer crashes its probably a CPU overheating. Try vacuuming out dust from the heatsink and see how you go.

Make sure the heatsink hasn't come unseated from the CPU, that is a good cause for those symptoms displayed.

dust is a big killer to "old PC" nowadays, we get so many computer back for warranty after a year because of clog up on CPU fan.. signs of it maybe= noisy fan, computer slow down, restarts and shut down randomly, worse case scenario - popcorn!..
