Deadwood is another HBO series I've been wanting to get back into. The last time I stopped watching was about... 3 or so episodes before the season 2 final. I've got to get me a copy of the series so I can start fresh again. I don't want to spend cash on the boxsets, so I'll either have to find someone who already has it or rent it someplace. Or something else.
I agree with the swearing too. Frankly, it was a little off-putting to begin with. Don't get me wrong, the swearing certainly adds a very authentic flavour to the show, but there was just so much of it that it kinda grated after a while. Then you just get used to it.
I think my renewed interest in the show came about after it ended. Was it canceled or did it run it's course? I'm leaning towards canceled because I've heard rumours about a direct-to-DVD movie. That's usually a sign... _________________

i'm not 100% sure, but yeah the signs are there that this was another series cut down before it's conclusion - although in this case, i have heard that the series was turning to 3 or 4 telemovies to wrap the series up in a manner different to the series.
whereas the series proper was set as 1 episode portrays 1 day, the movies were to be a longer time-frame.
i don't know whose idea the movies were, programmers or creators. given this is HBO, i'm more inclined to think it's a creative decision, but then, they did cancel Carnivale early, so it's anyone's guess. _________________

I'm inclined to believe the movies where settled upon by all involved with deciding the shows fate. I'm sure the creator's would have loved another season, but the network execs must have shot it down and finally bartered down to the movies, if only to appease the the show's fans.
Farscape did it, SG-1 is in the process of doing it, and now (presumably) it's Deadwood's turn.
Carnivale is a good example of a shows vulnerability on HBO's network. It's pretty high cost stuff, with costumes, sets and large casts to deal with. You could draw the same parallels with Deadwood. I don't think I'd be wrong in assuming that each episode must cost somewhere in the tens of millions. Not exactly the kind of money a network would want to spend on a show that doesn't rate through the roof, by their standards of course.
I'd be pretty nervous if I was financially or creatively invested with Rome tbh. It fits the bill of those two ill-fated HBO series'. If the ratings start to slump, I can't see a future for it. Isn't it great how TV has turned out? It's all politics and cash. Creativity means f**k all. _________________

I finally finished watching all of Death Note. What a great series and what a great end too. I liked how Light when beserk, he totally lost it. It was epic. I haven't read the manga, but apparently Light begs for mercy, he doesn't do that in the anime, which I think it was a better way of doing it.
Two thumbs up!
I have now started watching another anime, Midori Days. It's about a dude who can't get a date and somehow now his right hand turns into a girl who has a crush on him. She can move independently to him. It's weird. We'll see where it goes. _________________

I don't really watch TV beside WWECW's three shows and random stuff on the Comedy Channel like Conan, Jay Leno, Colbert Report, Daily Show etc. _________________ Don't you LOL me. Don't you Dare LOL me.

finished series 3 of Deadwood last night. that's it. finito.
well, kinda.
it doesn't really end all the plotlines, so i really hope that the telemovies do get the go-ahead in order to finish all the stuff that's been built up over 3 season.
Richardson is FTW. _________________

Just finished Season 4 of The Sopranos.
I was also pleased to find out that my local video store has started renting out season boxsets. They had about 5 copies of the Sopranos Season 6 which is handy seeing as I haven't managed to pick it up yet. _________________

I'm really looking forward to Criminal Minds returning tonight, 8:30 channel 7. It's pretty much the only crime show I can stand watching these days.
Oh and Top Gear is on just before it on SBS _________________

So you got through Season 5 in about three days? I think I did it in 2 I still really looking forward to it's final season. It's probably not going to air till sometime next year though so there's still a bit of a wait ahead. At least there's the Season 6 DVD release to look forward to.
I only managed to get to the end of Season 3 of Trailer Park Boys. I felt the show was loosing its novelty. I'll probably get back into it sometime in the future, the seasons are rather short after all so there isn't that much in terms of a time commitment. _________________

Good to see some Shield loving making its way across the board.
I've been TRYING (I've been quite busy) to watch Season 10 of Stargate SG1 and Season 9 of Atlantis. When I'm done with that I plan to do a whole Sopranos reCap (see what I did there!!). _________________

yeah, that should read 3.
I love the Stargate series because of the great writing. I will admit its starting to wear thin in some parts (especially the "give me 5 mins and I will come up with a theory that will take about 40 years in real life!") and has always had dodgy episodes, but it can really build up suspense if it wants. Particularly when they stick to the main plot line.
Actually, typing this post has kind of made me hate the show a bit more. Dialogue is becoming a bit contrived and the action is getting kind of mundane.
Ah, nothing beats the days of the Goauld and Col. O'Neal. _________________
