DS Connection Tour '07

yeh i guess i understand the problems it causes for the staff, one kid started swearing at another for using hacked pokes. Apparantly, the kids sceptile was outrun by a metagross

ah i hate hackers. not only do they spoil the fun for themselves but also for other people.

And i wonder whats up with Jamie/Chrono? The way everyone else speaks of him makes it sound like he was really into it and excited, etc. but today he was quiet and only commentated a few battles, etc.

i guess he's probably just really tired, he has been doing this tour a lot and it must get stressful.

Anyway, im hoping that tomorrow will be my day to make it into the photo's. Top 8 here i come!

well i was at chatswood today (14th) and since i dont have pokemon i was kinda dissapinted, i couldnt find anyone who had MPH so that didnt work, were there demo downloads? i looked for them but didnt find anything, on the plus the atmosphere was great so many people excited about the giant dancing pikachu, and i did see some games i want to get now

Nice going macka, lol you got lucky in that first round, if that breloom landed focus punch you'd be a goner.

That sucks about the hacking thing, i can certainly see there side of things, it would get intense trying to prove/disprove certain hackers, while your example was clear cut, trying to prove max stats and when moves are learned, if learned at all(they could argue they traded it from fr/lg etc and their poke learned it there, then the organisers would have to check that, it would go on forever).

Still sucks though, they should have had one or two pokeheads, that did nothing but check the legitamacy of pokes used, a judge/referee if you will.

Still nice effort-i had you down to win, but action replay>legit anyday

*coughs* It's perfectly possible to get a Tri-Attack Porygon-Z before L50 legitimately. You forget Pal Park. In previous generations Porygon learns Tri-Attack at L36, which is how I have a Tri-Attack Porygon-Z at L50. I wouldn't appreciate being called a hacker because of it. >_>

Chatswood Pokemon D/P Tour: NSW Last Day (4):

Another cold morning today, woke up nice and early, breakfast etc., then ready to head out for the Chatswood second day, frost on the front and back windows of the car. Removed all of it, couldn't feel my fingers after

Anyway, arrived (after 3/4 of an hour or so) in Chatswood, got kinda lost looking for the carpark, but all was good (eventually), knew where the tour was being held (3rd level, centre court near Dymocks) made our way there (was in the same place the last poke tour was last September), nice line already, joined it.

About 9:30 or so (after arriving at Chatswood around 8:45) i was wondering 'why isn't the tour started yet?', Rebecca on the mic (really bubbly personality, and other on mic apart from Jamie/Chrono) said "tour starts at 10am, battles start at 10:30", i'm like, 'alright then, lets see what's going down in the Union Room...'. First time in the Union Room for me folks, had me some poke's to trade away (thanx DIU for that Ditto

), and i met this nice girl 'Sarah' who had, get this, 5 phione's to trade, and i was lucky enough to get 2 of them!

Apart from those cool trades, battled twice, lost twice (in coloseum, not 'game time', once against Dale) whilst waiting to get my number. Arrive at registration desk, get number 54, and off to take some photos!

Some demo stations (games on offer)
note: there were more though (like i mentioned in my last write-up here)

Various going's on/crowd/layout:
- Wii Area
Mario Striker's, Wii Sports and those 2 guys in red jackets (on Strikers pic) are playing Mario Party 8

- Pokemon Colouring-In and Touch Generations Table

- Pokemon Best Dressed (great entries today)

Ones there are (from left to right): turtwig, trainer, latias, pikachu, Roark (up back with bike-helmet), not sure (but he made big pikachu some sunglasses!), mudkip, May, Team Magma grunt, Magmizer, Team Rocket (Jesse, James and a cute Meowth), Bidoof and trainer (which was cool as they arranged with Jamie a little skit together with Jamie's Diamond on the Big DS of catching a bidoof live and in game), and was one other little girl dressed as May.
1st was: Team Rocket
2nd was: little girl as May
tied 3rd - Bidoof/Trainer combo and Team Magma Grunt

Ok onto my competitive battles of the day

1ST ROUND: Me VS Andre (a little kid, which i felt bad versing, but he was strong {poke-wise, probably as his dad with him raised them for him})
- i send in Gyarados, he sends in Empoleon
- i use Dragon Dance, he attacks, meh
- Dragon Dance again, attack, meh
- i use Giga Impact, he's gone
- he brings out Torterra, takes in sunlight, then i use Aqua Tail and he dies
- he brings out Infernape, he's faster than me, and killed me with close combat
- i bring in lucario, and use psychic (thanx Jibbs and Macka) taking out his Infernape

2ND ROUND (on big DS, yea! /sarcasm): Me VS guy who said "I'm LE3t", shock hands, we're off
- I send in Gyarados against his shiny Drifblim (probably hacked), Ice Fang him as faster, he's frozen

!
- Ice Fang again, but with leftovers and being a sponge, he wasn't going down easy, so i dragon danced twice (he still frozen), then one final Ice Fang, he gone (looking good)
- he sends in Azelf (weird he aint banned from these tourneys being legendary & such), i use Giga Impact after taking a painful hit, his HP goes down nicely, but what's this? Saved by Focus Sash!

- he Thunderbolts, i dead
- Bring in Lucario, his flamethrower's me

- Bring in Infernape (hoping faster) try to attack, but he psychic's my Infernape.... lights out for him
waiting in the wings he also had a shiny Garchomp....
oh well, asked Jamie, said he thought he might be hacked also, but didn't get a firm answer then, but maybe if i could have stayed longer when he had his semi i would find out if he was disqualified and i was thinking i could have had a go at 3rd round as i vs'd a hacker..

anyway, had fun today and didn't go home empty handed thanx to the Poke-Trivia
- Audience was asked: which replenishes more health? MooMoo Milk or Lemonade? MooMoo of course, and i won a copy of Chocobo Tales for DS!
- Audience was asked: What are 6 status effects? My sister answered: Frozen, Paralysis, Confusion, Burn, Sleep and Poison, won herself a DS headset (for online battling etc.)!
So all up, our winnings for the 2 days are:

- Deluxe Game Traveller (with Palkia on front)
- Chocobo Tales
- 2 Lanyards (entrant 99 at Hurstville and 54 at Chatswood)
- 2 keyrings (were just giving them away at registration desk, but u otherwise need the SMS from Nintendo)
- DS Headset
- Weavile toy

Finally, met Mackalacka today (he was watching my disgrace on the big DS and called out my forum/last name

), had a chat, i had some food, he helped me with evolving Kadabra, Graveller, Haunter, Machoke, i gave him my other phione and he kindly gave me a cloned Mewtwo from Emerald (lvl 100). I'm happy

Macka may or may not do a write-up but he won one of those Prima Poxedex guide things (which everyone wanted...), but he didn't get past his first round today. Great guy though

and i'm spent!

NSW Chatwood Day 2

Unfortuantely, i dont have any pictures again, but Dare has some great ones so meh. Nice to meet you dare, i had a great time today. You will not believe what happened once you left though. Today was a lot less crowded, which surprised me after everyone who missed out in the tournament yesterday.

Jamie was back on form, however he did a few disappearing acts during the day. In my first match, i had to verse this young girl. No disrespect to her but she seemed a little "weird" and i felt bad being matched up to her. I used Gengar, Aerodactyl and Blissey. I took out her Latias and Umbreon but her Swampert used waterfall on my Gengar, with him surviving with focus sash. I decided to try my luck with Hypnosis, but it missed and Gengar was lost. I sent out Blissey and Swampert earthquaked my Bissey and OHKO'd it, without a critical hit. I brought out Aerodactyl, used a choice banded Double Edge on it, bringing it into the red, but it waterfalled again and won the match.

Game over for me today. I got over it quickly and looked forward to the trivia, where i was keen to score some prizes.

When the Trivia was about to start, i made sure i was close to the front and managed to score a Strategy Guide from the question "Which gym leader is also an expert in pokemon contests?" Hardly anyone put up their hand so i shot up my hand and said "FANTINA" and won it. I already had one howvever, so when i saw a guy win a pokedex book, i asked him for a trade and he agreed. The trivia ended and i went and played some wii for a while.

I was watching some battles on the main screen and saw that a trainer was using a gyarados and thought it may be dare. Out comes Fido! and i knew it was him for sure, but unfortunately he lost. Dare you will be happy to know that the person who beat you was knocked out in the next round, however it was not proven that his pokemon were hacked.

I'll skip round 4 as not many interesting things happened.

TOP 8

The top 8 consisted of the girl who beat me today (i was surprised), Daniel(the guy who beat me yesterday), Nathan (great guy, great player) Dale and Greg and a little tiny kid, An older guy who's name fails me (Dare you mentioned how good he was, but not Dale) and a random.

They had thier pictures, signed their consent forms and were just about to battle when Jamie returned and started checking their pokemon. He checked all of them and found out - guess what, that two of them were hackers!!! And which two? Why, the two who beat me of course! (the guy who i suspected was a hacker from yesterday and the girl)

The guys Latios apparantly read "Hoen, arrived at level 60" hmmm. The girls latias had apparantly arrived at level 5 and, while its speed was 130 and yet it outran a Gengar and an alakazam who had to stages of speed baton passed by a ninjask. I didnt get her other pokes stats.

This seriously pissed me off...i was able to get over to losing to a strange girl in the first round...but to find out that i would have made it to the final 8 yesterday had Jamie checked the stats of him then...its just depressing.

Well, Jamie was in serious crapola now. Pictures already taken and everything... so Greg and Dale were put back into the tournament as the guy hacker defeated Dale in the top 8, and greg in the top 4.

Greg v.s Dale
Very close and intense match. Dont know who it belonged to but Meteggross was awesome. Greg took the match, but narrowly.

Nathan v.s Random
didnt see this match but Nathan won.

Older Guy v.s Tiny Kid
Older guy took the match but well done on such a young kid getting so far. Im sure we'll see more from him in the future.

Random v.s Random
Random took the match...i didnt see half of these matches as they were not on the big screen.

Semi Final 2

Nathan v.s Greg
Oh, the pains of pokemon. Nathan sent out Slaking first while Greg tried his luck with Latios. Latios Psychic'd to no avail. One return later and Latios was gone. Greg sent out Garchomp. Slaking was withdrawn and out came Registeel which was hit by Dragon Claw, taking it down to about 3/4 health. Nathan withdrew and sent out Slaking which was hit by EQ, taking it into the red. Slaking used Return but Garchomp held on with Focus sash. Nathan withdrew slaking and sent out registeel. Registeel was hit by EQ and fainted. Nathan sent out Metagross...bad move. It was even worse when he accidentally selected the wrong attack. he meant to use Bullet Punch, if he had he probably would have won. Garchomp ended Metagross with Earthquake and, depite the berry which weakens ground moves, Metagross went down. So Nathan had no choice but to send out Slaking and Garchomp EQ'd, winning the match.

Unfortunately, i had to leave after this match, so i dont know what went down and if Greg managed to win. If anyone else stayed on, please inform us!

I cant help but be annoyed the outcome of the tournament. I wouldnt have minded losing if it had all been legit, but it just seems unfair. I sat for 18 hours straight EV training and levelling up and the people who beat me probably spent 20 minutes max making their team.

Whats worse is that my drive for pokemon has gone now. This tournament really got me into a poke-frenzy but im not in the mood to play it anymore. I hope this doesnt last long.

Overall, Nintendo did an excellent job on these tours, i look forward to the next one, but i hope that somehow there is a way to remove hackers from these events. I am extremely impressed with Rebecca, the host who did a fantastic job on both days. I also enjoyed getting to see Jamie's shiny charizard catch a bidoof with a masterball lol.

EDIT: This is the hacking girl who beat me and was disqaulified in the top 8.

I'm a bit of a ht-head when it comes to shit like that, if i was around and it was proven she was a hacker, i swear i woulda king hit the bitch, i swear it.

I've seen that 'girl' at the last poke tour (and that older May who looks similar; from the best-dressed pic), didn't suspect hacking from her, but yes i think she is 'special'

I think i know who that 'tiny kid' is you spoke of, was he asian by any chance?

Ahh people ruin it for all of us, whos know how many of the people I vs'd were hackers.

And don't worry we may see a Pokemon Battle revolution tour in the future, that should get you back into pokemon if it happens. X_^

i'd just like to correct a few things from my previous post...it turns out i was wrong about a few things. First off, the people who hacked...i got the pokemon wrong, daniel had a latios that arrived at level 60 and the girl had a latias that arrived at level 5. The stats were apparantly fine, however the latias only had 130 speed and was outrunning Gengar.

Also, it turns out that Dale and Greg were knocked out by the two hackers in the previous round, thats why they were selected.

Sorry for the mistakes, this was just information i picked up from people at the tour.

And dare, yes that tiny kid was asian.

I *was* going to go today... but my ride ditched me, ie, the parents told me to be 'normal', that they're not going to drive me up or take me to a bus station or anything because they're gimps like that. To put it in a massive understatement, I was cheesed off!!
