I just bought this from EB (yea I caved) for $109.95. JB Hi-FI won't have it till tomorrow so if you can wait i'd suggest you do so cuz it'll be $20 cheaper.

Atleast the EB copy is sealed (if I really want something sealed i'll go EB) so that's an upside imo.

Graphics look amazing....I haven't played it yet but the screens on the back are so high-res. Funnily enough I won't get to play this till tomorrow night or something so I really should've waited till tomorrow when it comes out at JB...I just couldn't be bothered going to the mall tomorrow...anyways....

Had extensive playtime with it today at work.

First off it's a visual treat. Very sharp textures, superb shadows and lighting, and the animation is pretty sick IMO. Don't know what the F**k that IGN reviewer is on.

Anyway gameplay is great, if not extremely easy. The powers of The Darkness make me feel omnipotent and godlike, and it's awesome, but it can make things ridiculously easy.

Otherwise, it was really enjoyable what I played through, and the presentation is absolutely top notch!

I only got to try out the begining of the game last night (1st 5-10 minutes) and wow it really starts off with a bang and is very cinematic....probably the most movie like experience i've ever seen in a game....I swear there was one bit where i almost ducked for cover!

Graphics are amazing and the use of colours is awesome.

I shot 2 dudes and turned it off basically so I can't really say much more. Looks awesome though and can't wait to get stuck in over the weekend.

I got it for $94 at EB. It is awesome but my friend has already beat it in 9 hours or so and has 500 gamerscore for it... soo doesnt look to be very long.

But the graphics are as good as Gears, just the character models arent as good.

The aiming i hate, its a red dot and kind of weird to control. It takes me about 5 seconds to aim it up to the light to shoot it out..

I only have creeping dark and the minion darkness power at the moment.. cant wait till i get the portal etc.

Im stuck at the moment with some cops... cant escape. lol. So i gave up because it kept starting me back ages away when i died.

All in all it is a good game and i reccomend it but probably buy it from EB cos you will likely beat it in 9 or so hours with the majority of achievements in single player gained.. as you really just get em from playing the game, no going out of your way for em.

Yeah, it's not a must buy for me right now. I think I'll wait and pick it up cheap. Too many other good games around atm.

I will say one thing though, this is probably the best game i have ever played, next to gears of war. It is soooo much fun but it all seems like it will be over to quick. and the multiplayer from what i've heard is a total lagfest.

I'm kinda enjoying The Darkness so far, the graphics are amazing and some of the later parts have some awesome effects, it's REALLY hard though, like your character can only take a few hits (even when you have darkness mode activated) and i'm wondering why this is because it gives you very little room for error and the checkpoints are always very far apart so i'm replaying bits and getting very pissed off about it....it does seem to be a game where you have to take it very slowly but the limited range on your 'creeping tentacle' thing just makes it useless for anything but the shortest ranges but if you do it at short range then the enemies just shoot you and it's panic time when you're getting hit cuz there's a good chance you're gonna die from the limited amount of bullets you take. Seriously am I doing something wrong? I've heard about how Jackie is 'way overpowered' but seriously this is one of the most useless characters i've ever used in a game! It's ridiculous! His aiming is crap, he hardly gets any ammo...seriously this is a another HUGE problem, i'm always good at preserving ammo in games but in The Darkness i'm always running low, almost every shot needs to be a head shot or you will find yourself weaponless, shooting out lights is such a pain in the ass but it's something you will spend a majority of the game doing because you need to use your darkness powers way too much, you really can't get involved in many gun fights so you have to shoot out light, cower in darkness and get your little gremlins and tentacles to do all the work! Not the type of game I thought I was buying to be quite honest!

I really shouldn't be enjoying this game one bit but the story and it's script are amazing! So far the narrative has been awesome with characters that you get real attached to and the script has actually made be laugh out loud about 4-5 times (which I find VERY rare in games). When Jackie opens his mouth you really pay attention cuz this is one dark dude with a sense of humour....he's awesome....I just wish he frickin' took more than 4 bullets at a time....it's so CRAP!!!

I honestly don't understand what the developers were trying to do with the combat cuz it's crap imo. Using darklings is real slow and tedious and they're real dumb most of the time (killing people you don't want killed and not getting into position to kill the people you do want killed. They're fine if an enemy is close by but other than that they can get in the way a little bit).

Anyways i'm looking foward to geting a bit further in the game but I hope to god you get some armour or you start taking more damage or something cuz it's real tight....although i've only had to restart a few times once I do I take it VERY slow and methodical and that gets the job done but i'll be damned cuz this way is not very fun! I honestly thought The Darkness was going to be a shooter first and foremost but it's not....it's basically a stealth game! Honestly if you're playing this in anything other than 'easy' you do need to take it pretty slow and careful otherwise make sure your headshots are spot on cuz you will be seeing the restart screen a lot. Keep that in mind and you will enjoy The Darkness but if you're looking for a run and gun shooter you will be disappointed.

Biggest disappointment from a big name release I think i've ever seen (apart from Turok Evolution), I see why the game is getting scores in the 7's now. I'd probably rate it a 7 not more than an 8, I might change my tune once I finish it but yea....seriously disappointed with the combat. Production value is awesome but this game needs serious polish cuz Jackie just flat out sux to use as a protagonist. Story and script is awesome though! I honestly wouldn't have a problem with restarting if I didn't fricken' have to collect all those stupid pieces of paper and stuff again, it's very frustrating looking for collectibles and then getting killed cuz you have to look for the crap again and all it does is unlock extra content.

Achievements are awesome though and the criteria seems to be a little bit like Dead Rising in that creativity and exploration is rewarded (my favourite kinds) instead of it just being extra hard.

You're approaching the game wrong.

- It's not an all action FPS. Big gun fights are well down the list here, it's not what the game is about, just like Riddick wasn't.

- Use 'the darkness' to your advantage. When in darkness mode you're very hard to kill and will remain that while while you remain in the shadows, I repeat, WHILE YOU REMAIN IN THE SHADOWS. If you're running out into the light the added defence the darkness offers you is practically uselss.

- Take out lights to make a path of darkness toward enemies, if you can get close enough you can deliver a close combat execution which greatly saves on ammo.

- Eat as many hearts as possible, the more you eat the sooner you'll get to use the extra darkness powers and the less you have to rely on guns.

- The Darklings are useful. They may not kill often but they distract the enemies attention allowing your to use your creeping darkness power without getting hurt yourself.

OK sweet, so only while i'm in darkness mode will I take more hits? Awesome, that's basically all I needed! I'll just take out the lights around where I get into gun battles I guess. That's about it, I eat every heart and the Darklings are usefull, I just hate how they shoot innocent bystanders (who I though might give you extra missions and stuff but if they don't then it's cool).

I do understand the game's not completely about the big gun battles but this game is more a stealth game than a shooter and being in 1st person it's not really the best game design imo.

Also the controls for the tentacle thing really needs work dude!

I think i'll have much more fun with it now cuz I just hated dying too quickly and have to pick up collectibles and crap again, also there is no run/sprint so it's very tedious retreading covered ground.

I think maybe you dont know how to play properly Ugg. Im playing on medium diffuculty and im finding it challenging but nothing too hard. I agree you do die quick with your darkness activated, they should shiled you a bit more.

About the ammo, i never run out of it? I always have a surplus of it.

But so far i am loving the game, i almost beat it, was gonaa do all the side quests and get atleast 75 collectables before finishing, but i think i might finish it tonight and replay tomorow on hard.

^ Yea i've been playing games for over 20 years and I don't know how to play this properly! I am playing it properly but i'm not finding it as fun as I thought I would.....shooting lights and creeping around with the stupid tentacle, that's not my idea of fun and not the fps I was expecting.

Well if you read my post again i'm not running out of ammo just running low but since getting the shotgun and other weapons it hasn't been that bad but at the begining of the game I found it extra frustrating when I would have to rush goons with the butt of my gun regardless of how much ammo I hunted around for, it was ridiculous!

Also i'm playing on hard, and like I said i've only died a few times but having to pick up collectibles again is the only frustrating part.

Like I said the main dude just doesn't take enough hits but after what Chris told me it should be a bit better, I won't be playing it again till the weekend so i'll let you know how it goes from there.

It's definately not my fave game on 360, it doesn't even come close, the graphics are good but AI and combat is crap imo. I've had way more fun with other games including Condemned and Prey which have a lot more seamless action and that's more my type of game.

I found that the dialogue was forced. Those collectables you can call are awful.
Also the character doesn't look like the italian mobster that he actually is..

I hate having to save money otherwise I'd be buying this game right about now. Maybe in a month? What are the achievements like on it though are they hard or easy, I really can't be assed anymore aiming to gain achievements.

Roughly 500-600 can be done relatively easy through the main game. A few collectathons, and the other half are multiplayer achievements.
