I think it's coming out this year and have a feeling that it may be the WoW killer. After first impressions of LOTRO I knew that it would do well, but not take down the juggernaught that is wow. WAR definitely has some potential. The first thing I looked for were Classes or Jobs/Careers whatever you perceive it as (warrior mage etc.) and here it is, looks pretty damn guud: Classes/Careers in WAR

I dont know much about Warhammer (and personally I didn't like Warhammer 40k Dawn of war, although I liked squad system RTS in CoH icon_razz.gif anyway offtopic):

So I dont know what to call the Factions , but lets just call one side Good: Humans, Dwarves and High Elves, and Evil: Green Skins (Orcs and Goblins) Chaos (Mad arse looking human or something , i have nfi) and Dark Elves. Anyway, its just one big war.

They're introducing something new here, RvR (realm vs. realm) and this game has once again taken up the faction vs. faction idea, and I believe this is where some people would be put off by LOTRO (abscence of faction vs. faction to its fullest). It's basically all PvP and PvE all mixed in one, while one is not required to partake in PvP, one may do all the PvE content and which ultimately aids the war effort.

Anyway, Im pretty excited about this game. I myself might end up taking this and saying good bye to WoW, its had its run and its time for something new.

Discuss!

Ah yes, I'm also looking forward to this game, i'm starting to get tired of wow and have been looking for something new. I've either decided to keep an eye our for either vanguard or warhammer, so far the cinematic trailor for warhammer has gotten really good vibes from me i also am a big nut on steam engines/guns/engineers so seeing how the dwarves have this class i'll probably research them some more and see what it'll be like.

i hope that they include options to build own houses etc. just somewhere to hang out/return to and also to bring friends too, sure it might not be fighting but always a place to sit back chill and chat with some mates.

also a guild clan halls will be a good call. always dissapointed that wow didnt give guilds this option.

i'm more interested in this from the POV of a long-term Warhammer player. i could go into some of the lore, but that would take many MANY hours of writing.

the game itself doesn't really look to add much new to MMOs (the RvR thing was done in DAOC) apart from being almost wholly PVP - where WoW is a PVE game with PVP elements, WAR is doing the opposite.

i'm still not sure about it though... PVP really isn't why i play games, i don't like the whole sport mentality being applied to games, but i've been signed up to their newsletter for a few years now, so who knows.

Well I first noticed this game about a year ago and was planning to quit WoW for it (although I quit wow anyway a couple of months ago)... looks great, graphics look alot like WoW's (is it just me or is WoW the standard of what we judge every new mmo on now?).

The main reason I won't be buying this game upon release however is that I don't want to get addicted to another game like I got addicted to wow, great to play but greater not to play if that even makes sense? All aspects in these recent MMO's involve hardcore playing and great reliance on other players (raiding, even group based pvp) in order to have the most fun in the game and therefore taking up waaaay too much RL time.

Well now it's been delayed until 2008. not a bad thing, imo, extra devlopment time never hurt anyone. someone should have told the vnaguard guys that.

Any way, for those that don't know, mythic are now accpeting applications for guilds into the beta, until sometime in may.

if anyone's putting together a oceania time-zone type guild, they can count me in. i want a troll slayer so bad it hurts.

if i get into the Beta, it'll be Chaos all the way.

although at present, only Dwarves and Greenskins are complete, so it mightn't be an option.

But what flavour of Chaos Obs? I wonder how heavily penalised Tzeentch characters will be since an awesome fighter/wizard would be really unbalanced in a MMO.

I think i read somewhere that you only have the option of being Slaanesh, but all 4 were represented in game. I'm not certain where i read taht, so maybe I'm talking out of my arse.

One of the vids on YouTube, though (I think it's the one wher they're talking about the Chaos character they just developed) shows the character running somweher and a greater demon of Tzeentch walks by and it looks awsome.

I wouldnt think that you could only be slaanesh, because IMO hes the least coolest of the 4 gods. Personally im not sure, but im leaning towards Khorne. Bloodthirster = best greater demon ever.

Extra dev time is good. just look at half-life, STALKER..

Also, I'd be up if anyone is starting a beta guild. I really hope that this game is done with Guild Wars style pricing, not Hellgate..(or worst case WoW).

It's definately not Khorn you can be, i think taht was too obvious, and i don't think anyone would want to be Nurgle and any Tzeentch mages would be ridiculously overpowered.

As for as the Beta guild thing goes, the deadline for beta guild applications ended on May 5th, but was just the application. If you find someone that's already put in an appliction you could sign up with them.

i hope it's not only Slaanesh that you can be, although it would probably make the most sense of the four.

i don't really see why all 4 can't be choosable though. i imagine it'll have the MMO staple classes, and Khorne are fury-warriors, Nurgle are tanking warriors, even healers/regenerators to a degree, Tzeentch are Mages.

Slaanesh just sit around looking pretty and having orgies.

(@MIkes: I used to always go Khorne/Nurgle in the tabletop game. Slaanesh is easily my least favoured god of Chaos.)

I never played either with or agianst chaos on the table top game, they just didn't appeal to me. It was dwarves and woodelves all the way for me icon_biggrin.gif

Which is why I'm not too happy that slayers haven't been announced as a playable class yet icon_confused.gif

Problem is, they'll be breaking the game lore if Tzeentch are just magi. I'm hoping they break the mould and not stick to the typical guilds from RPGs as healers don't fit in the game apart from with the undead hordes.

the problem is, that even though the game is heavily PVP orientated (well, Realm v Realm), there is still PVE elements, and this side of the game essentially dictates that there has to be the staples of MMORPGs present to work properly.

even if it were pure PVP, there has to be some form of medic unit/class in a PVP game to work properly too. PVP is always based on how well a group of people work together, otherwise it's an FPS game.

nothing wrong with FPS, but even MMOFPS games have medics and are based on how the team supports eachother, not really relying on any one persons skill.

Agreed.

Whenever there's a pitched battle in AV in WoW, i find it's usuallu the side who's healers are actually healing, rather than sending out DPS, that wins.

True, and in MMOFPS, when you have a a battle for a street or hill, where its easy to get straight to the fight, then the side with the medics who sprint across the street under tank fire to save teammates will win. In BF2, if you have a single squad all working together, in the same chopper, with an attack chopper as backup, these guys WILL take any point. Its very hard to stop a squad like that just running through the map.

bit of a large bump, but i suppose it's worth it.

you can now apply to be a part of the Warhammer Online Beta, simply sign up here.

it's possible that you might need to be a newsletter subscriber, i'm not really sure as i've been signed up since it was announced, so if there's anyone else keen out there, and not a member, let me know how the signup process goes.

1 thing though, you need to attach an info file from the Direct X Diagnosis tool, so if you aren't keen on releasing such information, there's not a lot of point clicking the link.

I can't remember if i posted this before, but I'm well narked off you can't choose to be a Slayer. They're so ingrained in Dwarf lore and there's one right there in the trailer, dammit!

Ah well. I've been speaking to a guy who had a ten minute go of a battleground in the Atlanta games day last week. He had a go with an Iron Breaker, which is set to be a tank like class. Said very fun, and the rules actively promoted team work, although he really didn't have time to get to know the mechanics, which is understandable.

Apparently he Hammerer is very kickarse, and came top of the kill count and damage done, but he was very impressed by the ENgineer (these are all dwarf classes, in case you dind't know). The guy was carrying basically an automatic shot gun and could place a gun turret, a la BF 2142.

Mark of Chaos is a great game, but it's more an RT-Tactics game than and RT-Strategy game, and in that regard, it's not really comparable to Dawn of War.

it could've been better, i don't dispute that (especially since the co-op campaign was removed prior to release), but i'm quite a fan of skirmishing through MoC.
it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying the respective miniatures anyway.

if only they'd release some army expansion modules now.
