^ Was good seeing you man. Didn't bump into DarkYoshii but I did see Charly so I guess I win.
I had to leave about 1/3rd of the way into the 2nd act because I had previously booked tickets for this. One of those "why must EVERYTHING fall on the same night?!!?!!?" moments. Grrr.
Kinda pissed that I missed the Twilight Princess music but what I did see was awesome. Good times indeed. _________________

You guess? YOU GUESS? You did win!
Great night. There was a ticket mix up for me, so I was seated far away, funnily enough we ended up sitting 2 seats away from my sis and her friend who were using the tickets I had purchased a couple of days before winning the competition.
I didn't see anyone....except theory 'so I guess I win.'
*fingers crossed Eminence come back to Melbourne* _________________

I wasn't as impressed as you guys seem to be. The track list was lacking imo (no One Winged Angel? GTFO), and many of the tracks felt very samey; you heard one, you've heard them all. Plus, that wasn't the best orchestra I've ever heard... The levels of the mics where all wrong too. There was way too much emphasis on the percussion at times (and this is coming from a percussionist), especially during the MGS theme. I don't ever remember there being a kit in that track, and there was way too much of it in this rendition.
One other thing that bugged me throughout the night was how they kept interrupting the game footage with the slow panning shots of the orchestra. We can all see them from where we were sitting! We don't need them projected on the big screen! Besides, whenever footage was running on the screen, the music had context and felt much more alive. The Shadow of the Colossus music for example would have benefited greatly from more footage. They didn't use nearly enough.
And it was a real bummer about the lack of footage from FFXII, Advent Children and Kingdom Hearts II. Licensing rights probably, but I was looking forward to seeing it all the same.
Back to the music, there where a couple of stand out; MGS (yes the encore was a nice touch), The World of Warcraft Suite, the Shadow of Colossus tracks (even though I felt they were a tad rushed), Legend of Mana, and OMFG, thank the heavens for the Chrono Cross encore. That pretty much made a so-so night into a pretty awesome one. Yes, I love that soundtrack that much. _________________

I am so sick of One Winged Angel (I'm pretty sure they've done it like twice already over their last few concerts, I know they did it at Destiny two years ago, and pretty much butchered it). I'm glad they chose something else for their FFVII fix. Choir was a nice touch.
Agreed on the percussion levels though. For the record, the MGS theme does have a kit, but nowhere near as loud as that. The choir boys during the encore somehow managed to drown out most of the orchestra too.
Oh and how bad was that guy who came up on stage to recieve his prize? Shut down!
Oh, and I reckon you're being a tad pedantic about the footage. I couldn't really give a toss whether they showed game footage or shots of the orchestra, really. _________________

Well I've never heard the Sephiroth theme live so I was disappointed. As for the footage, well I (and everyone I went with), agreed that the footage added a lot to the music. Had they synchronized the footage with the music, it would have been a far better concert imo. It would have been like watching a music video clip but with the music being performed live in front of you. It was a missed opportunity, that's all I'm saying. _________________

yes definitely syncing the footage with the music would've been a good plus to the concert, i'm still glad that i was able to attend since this was a first and never have the opportunity to go the last couple of times.
even though one winged angel would've been done previously i'm sure that those who haven't attended the previous years would've spasmed if they were to make that an encore performance. _________________

If the encore had been Times Scar + One Winged Angel (instead of the Metal Gear Theme again), that would have been in-f**king-credible. _________________

I go to the concerts every year my friend. I'm just saying that Eminence aren't as well known in Melbourne, so the ticket sales aren't really there (last night seemed much better though). It must cost a lot of money to bring the entire orchestra down here, so I'm hoping it is profitable so they continue to do so.
I like to watch the game footage also. It just brings a context to the new music.
I didn't enjoy ANIF07 as much as I enjoyed Passions, but it was still fantastic.
They usually play a lot of Final Fantasy music, and honestly I could have listened to some again last night. But they can't keep playing the same stuff, people will stop going eventually. There needs to be a balance with new and old. _________________

I'm not really an RPG fan so I haven't played the great majority of games that the music was from. Still, as a fan of good music I appreciated every second I was there. I didn't mind close-ups of the orchestra on the big screen, it was cool to focus on some of the individuals and how much they were into their chosen instrument. You know, like the "Concert Master" - a title I one day wish to have in front of my name. It beats the shit out of Mr, Sir and maybe even Knight.

^ Many of the songs at ANIF07 are from games not yet released in Australia (or Japan for some) right? Tales of Legendia, Deltora Quest, etc.

^ Yep, and even a few tracks were premiered by Eminence, which I though was a nice little detail. So did the rest of the audience judging by the 'ahhh' I heard after whoever it was that mentioned it... mentioned it.
And theory... Ooooh. Photo's weren't allowed. I'm telling. And, judging by the angle, you were on the balcony left? Me too! Shame we missed each other.
And yeah, I forgot to mention. That dude that ran up onto the stage... at least he got a round of applause for his troubles. Also the MC was a douche. _________________

Where were the seats for the free tickets from the comp located? I ended up sitting in Row E in the Circle.
I think my favourite piece from the night would have to be the Title Theme from Legend of Mana. Loved it. _________________

Ehh and you know this how??? If there is another show I don't think we would have to wait until December.

After last nights attendance levels, there is a good chance of that happening.

Yep that's where I was. Damn, we could have gone for an ice-cream/toffee apple (it was toffee apple right?).

I got my envelope when I got there and there was only ONE ticket, but it was Row B of the Circle. I had a friend there, and while I did think about ditching him, it didn't feel right. So I asked what the deal was and the helpful customer service girl gave us 2 Balcony tickets, for which she was very apologetic. Ah well. It was a good overview of the whole stage in the end. _________________

^ Same. I had one ticket. So we traded for 2 tickets that were in row E of the circle, which were 2 seats away from the tickets I bought. So it all turned out well for me. I could keep an eye on my sister and her friend. _________________

Same thing happened with me as well with the tickets. The ticket person said that PALGN had only been given single tickets to give out and not double passes. Other than that and Yoko not being there it was awesome.
I met someone there who had also one a ticket but didn't catch his name.
Efo: The prize for the Melbourne one was: 1 copy of Wow and Burning Crusade, 1 copy of Enchanted Arms(360), 1 L.E. copy of TMNT(360), 1 copy of some 360 game that isn't out here yet, a gaming mouse and a gaming keyboard. Also there were 4 signed copies of the FFXII soundtrack. _________________

Everyone also got a a trial version of WoW as well. You asked what the prizes were not what the freebies were. I know we could get things signed but the one composer who's autograph I wanted wasn't there. GAH! I brought KH2 there for absolutely no reason!
Also did anyone notice the 2 guys that started yelling encore at the end? Because I was one of 'em. I remembered hearing a story about how at an older concert Hiro had to mention there was an encore because noone called out for an encore. _________________

Hehe I couldn't get a ticket until the night, so I was up in the front of the balcony where they opened up the extra seats. Poor planning FTW! _________________ Wii Friend Code: 1013-7016-8449-0184
