ah nice thats pretty cool,

but does that mean there are now playstation games on the ps store? or was this only in USA again.

I also think that it would be unfair to be forced to purchase a PSP to be able to download and play these games on the PS3 and the fact that they have implemented vibration control for ps2/ps1(?) games can only mean that the new vibration control will soon to be released i'm assuming. (wonder if it will affect the time per charge that it will have on controls then)

As far as I'm concerned, it just makes more sense to play PS1 games on the go. Crash Bandicoot would be a neat time-waster on the bus, but I'm not going to play it at home when I've got games like Oblivion and Motorstorm sitting there. That, plus the fact that the smaller screen would make the jaggy graphics slightly more palatable.

It'll be an added bonus when Sony get around to enabling the ability to play PS1 games on the system, but one I doubt I'd ever use. It's kinda like when the Gameboy Player came out. I bought it, tried it out, and never used it again.

EDIT: (See below) That's a good point though. You should be able to access the PS Store on your PSP.

I know what you mean but it also works in the other direction. I don't want to have to buy a PS3 to download PS1 games to play on my PSP. Darn you Sony!

Great update and good to see Sony getting on top of things, even though all of that should have been there from the start...PS3 seems to be getting better and I may get one sooner than I though. icon_smile.gif

That's actually quite pathetic that you need a PSP to download playstation 1 games from the playstation store.

This needs rectifying severely.

Updating it now, and suprisingly it's relatively large. Good to see I can now play PS1 games on my PSP..now I just need to figure out how to get custom 3.40 firmware that's downgradable.. icon_shifty.gif

Haha, I didn't end up selling it, I had a 'change' of heart.

Is there anything new up on the store? What about movie play back changes? Can we have 720p support for Blu-Ray now?

EDIT - So I just checked the Sony website, not mention of this anywhere. Here are the offical patch notes?

Sounds pretty sexy. I haven't had any problems with any of my PS2 games in terms of compatability though, so it's not too much of an issue for me. I agree that the PS1 games thing is sort of cool, but God damn, given the quality of the PS1 library you'd think there'd be a fantastic selection available on the PStore. Where is MGS? Final Fantasy? Medal of Honor?

The whole owning both a PSP and PS3 thing is ludicrous. It's not doing you any favours Sony.

It is a little disapointing having the fact that you do need the psp to be able to play ps3 games. I like having many games on my HDD so i dont always have to put a disc in to have a bash or a serious play. I think sony have the perfect oppurtunity to overtake Microsoft in their Xbox Live arcade stance, with them having the classic games we all come to love downloadable, and much more recent than arcade ones.

Ps3 also have the chance to rival the Wii's virtual consoles library. Being able to only play them on your psp is a disapointment but will sony implement being able to play them on your ps3 later? I guess and hope so.

There is certainly no technical aspect holding them back from doing this on the PS3. I suppose this cross up move is to try and inject more purchases on the PSP front which could be doing better as far as sales are concerned. This sort of business plan serves as a double edged sword for Sony though.

I get that yeah. They are trying to booste psp sales buy winning people over with the promise of being able to play all the old classics from the wonder years of sony gaming but you need this machine to be able to. It will dmage them by simply because some people wont buy a psp for this and that means they lose money on the sales of the network games, or the can gain because people without a psp will rush out and buy one because they want to be able to play these games. I just hope they make it available for people who want to play it on the ps3.

well what i understood was that you needed the psp connected to the ps3 to be able to download the ps games. but that was probably just misunderstanding, surely this would be good for everyone if they didnt need the psp and could play on the ps3, but i think that they really want this to be for psp only seeing as its small size, and probably wouldnt look good on bigger televisions (assuming that they have bigger televisions)

but i do hope they fix this problem in a future patch.

You are 100% right with that one ittekimasu. Sony initially stated in a press release that PSOne emulation on the PSP will be possible utilising only the standalone PlaystationPortable. Many PSP owners were fuming when it was then stated at a much later date that the only way you can obtain PSOne titles onto your PSP is by downloading them through the Playstation Store via a Playstation 3 unit.

Soulless, you are right. Sony are simply far too aggressive when it comes to generating profits for themselves and need to cut a little slack towards the consumer.

Sony have not changed one bit. I thought a more competitive market this gen may affect their arrogant and exploitative business practices. It has not.

I was going to buy a PS3, but I hate Sony as a company. No HDMI cables with PS3, refusing to fix dead pixels on PSP's, releases 6 months after the US on PSP (and some PS2) games, outright lies about the specs of the machine before it came out and now this.

I have a PSP, but this sort of exploitation of consumers is a joke.

Stick your PS3, Sony. I'm buying a Wii for my retro fix. I'll buy a PS3 when you start looking after consumers instead of milking them for all that they're worth. icon_sad.gif

Some of you must have missed this:

"You can now download PlayStation® format software from PLAYSTATION®Store, and play it on the PS3™ system. (PS3 ver1.70 and PSP 3.40)"

You don't need a PSP if you have the new firmware. Unless you want to take your PS1 games with you when you leave the house, that is.

Okay, there's apparently a catch though.

Over in the US, people are having problems playing their downloaded PS1 games on their PS3s. It's apparently not a problem with either the system or the firmware, but rather a problem with something in the game code.

They're going to be reissuing the games that have the problem, and then gamers will be able to redownload the new versions.

Since the PS1 games haven't shown up on the Aussie store yet, I imagine when they do, they'll be the newer, updated versions.

Phew. Isn't it great fun being an early adopter?
