Fantastic. Great to see them Ruskies have a keen sense of humor and are 'hip' to gaming pop culture. Not that they wouldn't be regardless of them being Russian... I, eh... Я тебя люблю... _________________

For the sake of not creating another Stalker thread unnecessarily, I'm going to hijack this one. I bought it today and so far so good. My rig is handling it well.
But still I'm a little peeved at the whole PDA thing. The diary notes are green if you haven't read them. So you click one of the messages, read it, and it turns white. Great. Close the PDA, re-open, now it's green again. WTF is the point of that?
It's also really annoying when you check a corpse, and a PDA message pops up such as 'Backpack location' or something, but the message is hidden under the inventory screen which is just silly. On top of that, how the hell are you supposedly finding this information out? On their PDA? Then why don't I have a PDA message in my diary for each and every one of those, not just a few random people. And when you receive the message, you then have to go into the PDA and switch your active task to whatever the corpe's PDA told you, in order to find out where or what you are meant to do.
Actually it took me about an hour to realise that that was actually a message in the PDA...of me...talking to myself...about having amnesia etc. The story seems a bit pov.
Visuals are pretty damn amazing. I love getting the binocs out and having a look around, and surprisingly you can see for a fair distance. The AI is sweet with the neutral dudes helping them out in battle.

I think he meant 8800GTS. Yeah it works fine, a bit clunky at times.
My dude is up to a bit where he runs out of stamina extremely fast and then barely walks. What's wrong? He's not carrying anything especially heavy wtf.

The only time I run out of stamina quickly (so far) is when I've over my carry-weight limit, so if you're not at that stage then I'm not sure what's up. When you're close to death you can't run, either... but I'm sure you'd have noticed that.
Hrmm... do you have an artifact equipped that slows affects your movement/stamina?
And yeah, the PDA thing takes a bit of getting used to. Took me ages to figure out that those little messages that pop up when you loot some corpses just appear as a little marker on the map, for a stash or similar. _________________

False alarm. It was the weight after all. Turns out I had too many vodkas, bread and other little tid bits stock piling my backpack.
Crest: 1024x768 res, max settings. I sometimes get pauses (i.e. frame lag) but is that from my video card or the rest of it?

Dips in framerate can be from a few things.
Your resolution is quite low, and resolution is more or less linked with processing power so I'd suggest it would most likely be a RAM problem. Also, if it were a processing speed problem, your game would consistently have low frames.
I doubt it is the RAM of the video card since it has 640MB of GDDR3. I know you have 2GB of DDR RAM (i'm a bit of a stalker myself ) and I think read speeds would be sufficient for the game.
I am going to suggest you lower you texture quality a notch. Textures on max detail can really tax your RAM, especially with an open area and good looking game like STALKER or Oblivion for example. _________________

I think the dips that Mitch is experiencing is simply the way STALKER is - every now and then it'll pause for a second to (I imagine) load/save the placement of items/enemies in the game world around the player. STALKER is a persistent world, so any corpses you leave in your wake will stay there, etc.
I'm playing an otherwise smooth game except for these (very) occasional pauses. _________________

Yeah it's pauses rather than frame lag actually.
I somehow just spent the last 2 hours backtracking and redoing a mission in order to proceed. I didn't do the correct trigger, however it didn't stop me from plowing through 2 sets of enemies. Some parts had 11 enemies, killed them all, then had to go back and kill another 11. Pure massacre everywhere. Not happy, Jan.

A really bad frame lag can appear as a pause, but yeah I see what you mean.
It seems as if its the game needs to go to a load-screen but the developers don't think its worth breaking the game.
Throwing more RAM at it or having a SATA2 Hard Drive might help the issue, but more than anything it sounds like its how the game is programmed. _________________

The game in general (at least for me...) has massive load times. Loading into a save game, loading a new area, takes a fair while. I'm enjoying the game enough that this doesn't bother me too much, but yeah. _________________

Same thing can be said for Oblivion and Far Cry.
My graphics card was getting severly outdated during those load times. _________________

Reload in Oblivion for me was 2 seconds. Stalker is about 6 and it annoys the hell out of me.
When I was trying to saving Mole, he kept dying (this is the part I had to do twice). I found myself screaming "F-ing MOLE!" every time i died. It's funny now but I can assure you I wasn't laughing at the time

Stalker runs okay on my PC. The frames dip occasionally, I'm thinking it's just the nature of the game. |
I think they exist in beta somewhere... except for Vista.
I don't dare try this game until I get a new comp, so I'm stuck reading other's impressions

Speaking of impressions:
Something I started noticing last night (while trying to sneak some phat lewt off dead army guys, while live army guys patrolled the vicinity) is that thanks to attention to detail of buildings and such in the game, and also the AI, you can really have some cool close-quarters firefights.
Case in point: retreating into a multistory building that has a central indoor staircase and one (or more) on the outside - with full indoors areas on each level plus all the windows to snipe from - with a handful of soldiers after me. I ran up the outdoors stairs and into an open door, hoping to set myself up in a good vantage point. Lean out the doorway only to find that there's a gun trained on me from an adjacent rooftop - already! Damn! Take a few hopeful potshots and try to see my other pursuers. Ones coming at me from the bottom of the stairs, and these mongrels have too much armor to take down easily with my guns. Okay, try the indoor staircase! I turn around, only to see the flashlight of another bloody guy coming up the indoor stairs!
Well, I put up a valiant fight... but the bastards got me
Of course, this makes it sound overly good - but I've already seen an example of a whole platoon of guys coming at me single file (one after the other) ... except walking into a wall and not facing me, then getting easily picked off with my rifle...
Eitherway, this game can go from hunter to hunted very damned quickly and you'll find yourself in some tense moments. Especially in the dark underground passages... *shudder* _________________

No idea, sorry - I'm running it on 1024*768 with most things off, and settings all low ('cept for a few nearing mid) _________________
