This is a thread where readers get to ask questions to the PALGN staff, questions in relation to the site and the staffs jobs.
"Have you ever felt that you overrated a game? if so, which game(S)?" _________________

Do you ever get annoyed of Retroman's topics similar to this one, and how you have to constantly warn him for stupidity? _________________

Don't feel too bad there retro. I must admit that your threads can be annoying sometimes, but this one is actually pretty good, IMO.
My question (to any and all PALGN writers/staff): What is your favourite console to review games for? _________________

Do you ever get annoyed at how retroman's topics have no grammar or punctuation and the lack of any effort at making posts worthwhile.
No, that wasn't a question to the PALGN writer's and Editors.

This might be a little personal, but: "How come Mark is so unbelievably attractive?"
Or is that more of a question to God? _________________

I've got one, I want to play.
I've noticed one of your staff members is particularly feminine (i've done a jumble here, aMrk) is this a concern amongst staff members?

Also; I can answer this for all staff; we have no favourites

^ Bull! We all know that certain games are over rated due to Advertising on the website.
I joke, I kid.

Alright, new question then. Do you prefer writing reviews or writing up news stories? _________________

At the risk of keeping this going, there's a simple answer here - any entrenched platform, so right now that basically means the PS2.
When writing a review/preview etc for any of the new systems, you feel like you're reviewing the system as much as the game. Wii reviews can't just say 'the graphics look nice/bad/whatever', they have to effectively be compared to all 360 games. 360 games can look decent, but you have to keep asking 'can the system do more?'. And don't even get me started on the Wii and DSes input methods - is it the DSes fault, or the game, when the microphone doesn't seem to work? And your first Wii game of each genre carries the burden of the controller's potential on it's shoulders, rather then just riding existing control schemes like later generation games have the privilege to do.
So yeah, reviews and previews will be much easier again in a year or so.

Slowed down? Nah.
To answer your question about under rating and over rating games.
I think i over rated 187 Ride or Die which i gave 8.0, but it was a budget title in ANZ and is still quite good to come back to occasionally.
I feel now Crackdown could have gotten 8.5 too. That's about it though, i deliberate over my scores quite a bit before going live.

i think this is quite a decent thread idea.
don't have a question to ask though, i think the 2 that have been asked are the only ones i'd kinda thought about in the past.
perhaps a flip to Retro's question, is there a game you under-rated at review time that's grown on you since?
or what about:
Do you have a guilty pleasure game?
one you know you shouldn't enjoy, but for whatever reason, you can't stop playing.
(kinda like "Bring it On" being a guilty Movie pleasure... erm, when said like that "pleasure" suddenly sounds so wrong...) _________________

Ohhh zing!

Yeah. I'd say my most recent 'guilty pleasure' would be Disney's Kim Possible: What's the Switch?. Despite its obvious intentions to target kids, the platforming is extremely enjoyable.
This topic could be pretty interesting though - perhaps it may develop into a QA feature for the site (hmm?); a bit different from the general QA's such as "I really love X game, when will it be out?" Snoresvile right there. _________________

I like the topic.Makes the writers and general staff seem more 'real' and accesible to the wider community.Would be nice for palgn to somehow make this a sticky and/or turn it into some featurette, like Mark mentioned. _________________

Do you guys find it hard to review games outside your favourite genres? I know you try to avoid that in the way reviewers are allocated to games, but it must happen when you get a genre you despise. Does that make it hard to review the game fairly? _________________

It makes it VERY difficult to review games for genres I don't like, so much so i try not to do them but yah when reviewing an RPG i hate the slow combat and want more action, but you have to put yourself into the mindset of an RPG player.

i kept meaning to check out the 24 game, although i went off the series in a HUGE way, so it's probably not worth it anymore.
i quite like the games i have played based on TV Shows i like:
Buffy, Alias, The Sopranos...
i was trying to think of my Guilty Pleasure game, and didn't until you mentioned 24. Enter the Matrix. love it. _________________

I have one.
Considering the majority of games you are given are free - does it ever slip your mind that their are kids out there forking out weeks of pocket money on a game when you do a review?

Whilst PALGN is getting more and more from publishers, the site has been running for many years now and I'm fairly certain the majority of games reviewed have been purchased out of their own pockets (although I imagine it's swinging the other way now). _________________

Cool. Cheers for that.
I only ask as it used to be on my mind when ever I reviewed a game because I used to remember when I was a kid saving up to buy mastertronic games for my C64.

Actually no, all reviews are the site are generally (aka 90% of the time) titles from publishers.
