Tags: Microsoft, HDMI If you ever thought for once that the rumor concerning Xbox 360, HDMI, and behemoth hard drive is all over, well, think again. Because it looks like that the hushed talks are about to become louder and bolder.
Gaming site Gamers Reports just re-opened the flood gates that lead to the existence of a newer Xbox 360 model, appropriately dubbed as Zephyr or Xbox 720 (take your pick).
According to the site, its sources have confirmed that Microsoft of Australia has told a retail chain named Myer to prepare its stores for a black X360 with a 120GB this April. Furthermore, Gamers Reports continued and said that,
Well day 2 of product knowledge today (Brisbane, Australia) featured Microsoft themselves and it's now 100% official that the Black 360, with black controller, 120GB hard drive and HDMI is due out in Australia for AU$ 749 (US$ 583) in April. They will try to push this forward to late March to deter buyers from the March 23 PS3 launch.
If this turns out to be true, shipments will also be sent to North America and the rest of Europe. But that is exactly the thing - if this turns out ot be true.

This just in: Sony have confirmed the long rumoured PS3 "Low-fi" as an Australian exlusive! If you, like thousands of others, have yet to upgrade to to 'Hd revolution' then you'll be happy to know that on April 1st you'll be able to pick up a stunted PS3 'Low-fi' for a mere $500 AUD. The Low-fi comes without HDMI, or any of the other High-Def trimmings (including HDD) that makes it a toy aimed exclusively at Millionaire Playboys and Foreign Noblemen.
Yeah, sounds like a steaming load to me...

A black 360? I doubt it. White works well and they aren't going to want to look like a PS3.
Now lets think about this....why would we get the Zephyr exclusively in Australia?!

Because we have a much higher penetration rate of HD Televisions than the US does.
Oh, wait... we don't. There is absolutely no reason in Hell that Austrlia (or PAL regions in general) would see a new iteration of the 360 with HDMI support before the US (primary market). The whole idea is laughable.

i wondered that myself, but the article he linked doesn't actually say exclusive to Au, just that it's debuting it Au.
which also doesn't sound right, but it could just be that Au is much worse at keeping secrets than the US, and it's the only semi-sourced information around.
actually, if you google "Black XBox 360" you'll see quite a lot of speculation about it, including a photo of one that appeared in a Best Buy catalogue.
but yeah, exclusivity is purely a figment of the OPs imagination.

One reason might be to compete with the PS3 launch? I read on Joystiq or Kotaku that people had called Myer stores who confirmed it, though they may well just confirm anything for the hell of it. The extra $100 is a pain, but this might get me to buy a 360, if it's true.

Yup from Joystiq, the console "will" be a limited edition that's entirely black with a 120GB HDD, but no HDMI. (People need to get over HDMI it sucks!)

^I think the underlying issue here is that the people with 360's already are going to be stuck with the old model whilst the newcomers will all get a spiffed up version with a 120 GB HDD. To me that's a bit of a slap in the face, seeing that not everyone will purchase the console again. But this is all assuming that it's true, and MS don't do some kind of "extra $100 and we'll upgrade your console" offer, which I would hope for.

putting aside the obvious error in your post, i haven't seen anything mentioning that this will have the HD-DVD addon included.

i like it.
one of the things that i really don't like about the XBox 360 is the colour, i just really don't like white electronics (same goes for the Wii too - though i prefer the DS-Lite in white), so if this is true, i'll be getting a XBlack 360 for sure.

Yeah the matt finish on the pictures make it look horrible. I'm pretty sure the pictures people have of them are either of dev kits with normal HDDs on them or ones people have sprayed themselves.
Actually I don't think this is true, unless we get a Dashboard update before they launch. Cause the 360 can see more than 20GB of space anyway

dude i am just saying if its true its harsh as MS have been denying it being released when the leaked pics came out saying it was a dev box. all sounds bogus anyway. i got my xbox in december and if i knew a "better" one was coming out i would have waited

just pointing out that this rumoured release cost + the hddvd addon would be the same price as ps3 which everyone is attacking for being pricey. I will be buying the hddvd when it comes out , dont care much for ps3

such is the price of early adoption.
it's not as if it's a new concept either. the PS1 and PS2s went through several hardware changes, upgrading the CD and DVD drives respectively before the wholesale facelifts of Fat consoles to Thin consoles.
and i would bet that almost every console in gaming has undergone similar internal hardware revisions and refinements throughout their lifetimes, making them faster, or more efficient.

Oh man I hope this is true. I would be all over it. The black 360 looks a miiiiiiiiiillion times better than the damn off-white one. Problem is gonna be that I wish I had a black Wii to go with it.
@ arcturion: Mate, unfortunately the world doesn't revolve around you or any other current 360 owners. They couldn't really care less about the feelings of people who already purchased the console. They're doing the Nintendo trick (see Game Boy Advance & DS) and trying to make a change to appeal to the consumers who are yet to buy the 360. It's business and I for one am a sucker for their tactics.
Bring it on Microsoft, bring it on.

theory - i agree with you totally . what shits me is MS actively denying this being released. And hardware revs are one thing - like changing cores to 65Nm but tacking on HDMI so early in a consoles life is another. I think this is bogus anyway.

And black is extremely ugly especialy on TV's if people think they look good I bet they got ugly houses with no good decoration and i bet their garden looks like a bare lawn.
Hopefully there will be a deal like throw in $100 get the newer 360..Otherwise its totaly unfair.

I'm keen on the look of the black 360 - although I'm a little miffed at what you'd need a 120gb HDD for. It's not like with the PS3 where you can copy gamedata to the HDD to help the load times. And we don't have the Movie/TV stuff on XBL! like the US does.

anyway as theory said, Microsoft have sold alot of the white 360 and to continue to push sales they need to release a black one.
If these revisions start to change functionality in a major way, by say, reducing load times (which means increase in RAM) thats when you get angry.
