Levelling isn't hard, enemies respawn every now and then on the level you're in, and they all come back if you go 2 screens away. Just cause there aren't random encounters doesn't mean you don't have to fight! You need to level a bit or you'll get hammered (as I did recently ) _________________ Playing: 30sec Hero, Scribblenauts, Dungeon Crawl

lol the forum isnt Zelda vs. FFXII. What i would do if i had a Gc aswell i would go to eb when final fantasy is released and then buy it take it back within 7 days and then get zelda and then within another 7 you can choose which one u prefer and get that..SIMPLE

No trust me I think the new system is way better than the random battles thing. Off topic for a sec while I was on holidays I saw the case that was to be the PAL FF12, imo its more better and traditional than the US one.
EvilHayama: Not just a reply to u directly but to everyone. Yeah you constantly need to level, and that means killing everything in the map and probably going back for respawns. Guests in the party are your guide as to what level you should be. _________________ xfire = andylulz

I've watched some trailers and they show only one character used in battle. Three were present, but only one was being controlled each round. Is this true. So there is no more inputting three commands and watching the characters carry them out? _________________

Only one is used in battle, but that doesnt stop you sending commands to your fellow comrades.
There are things called Gambits which are preset commands (kinda like a language program like IF whatever ) which are just the basics of what they do when they meet an enemy.
For e.g. some gambits are is..
Foe nearest visible --> Attack
Foe HP:100% --> Blizarra
Ally HP:50% ---> Cura
But then of course in the thick of battles you can always send out manual commands, as you once did in previous games. Its different now because unlike in other games when you sent out your command you can now still select that person during their 'casting' to choose another action hence overriding the current action.
You can also switch party members therefore being able to control the other characters, theres really no difference in what character you decide to choose, however I think its always best to use a melee'er (pref vaan ) so you can do loops around the enemy for your next attack taking little hits as possible, although I never bother unless it gets chewy. _________________ xfire = andylulz

It seems so scary. But so did X-2, but know it is my fave battle and customisation system.
Well I love the Tales series and it is sounding kind of similar. So you don't need the other characters to survive?
If you give Vaan an attack command and then relise you need to cure, can you give that as an aditional command or does Vaan just miss his turn whilst someone else has a turn? _________________

You can tell Vaan to cure, and he will stop his attack command and cast cure. _________________

There's no "turns" really, you tell someone to do an action and a bar starts filling up, when it's full (and the character is close enough to the target) the action happens.
Gambits are great though, levelling just means manually walking near some enemies and then letting the gambits do their work while I read PalGN
As a programmer I wish there was more to them though, I need to be able to say "IF enemy is weak to ice AND doesn't have shell AND there are other enemies around: Blizzaga"
Other missing gambits:
"IF you're getting hammered: RUN AWAY"
"IF levelling: walk to the nearest enemy UNTIL lvl 40"

Does 'watching' the battles ever get tiresome..?

Um.. I donno it gets really fun when you verse around 4-6.. and its pretty cool as someone said there are no turns... you might end up having all party members doing attacks at the same time. well hm it happens the way you want it, you dont have to watch battles - i mean basically isnt that what FF was always about anyway wathcing? But i see what your talking about I think, the Gambit auto system _________________ xfire = andylulz

I have just read that you can turn the gambit system off...or not use it. So you can actually revert back to the old systems of manually issuing commands is this true? If so, is it possible to actually switch between these two options throughout the game.
Is this the same question as asked above by lalala? I couldn't work out what was meant. _________________

Turning off Gambits for other party members isnt really recommended. even with like ATB on wait or slowest battle speed it just gets really tedious without Gambits. The only gambits i have are basic attacking gambits and < or equal to 70% cures etc. .. The rest i do manually, but when clearing up the trash mobs you want to just have ur characters on auto-attack most of the time _________________ xfire = andylulz

Tedious? Worse than previous games?
I'm really excited about getting my hands on this game, but nervous. I don't want to be let down by the battle system. I love traditional turn-based battle systems and random battles. I'm hoping I don't miss them too much.

It's not productive to turn off gambits unless you want to run away, and even then there's a Flee button. You'll just have to see, it's hard to explain! Using gambits is great however, it brings some sorely needed new blood to the FF series. _________________ Playing: 30sec Hero, Scribblenauts, Dungeon Crawl

I pre-ordered from Amazon, therefore I'll get 0 extras. But still, can't wait. I don't actually know much about it though, bit of a fanboy buy based on FF... well, IX was the last real one I played. Still, I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Probably do me good to read through this topic to find out more... _________________

ok, didn't really know which board to post this on, since it's on the DS, but a prequel (i believe) to the PS2 game.
so here it is, a trailer for the Nintendo DS Prequel to Final Fantasy 12.
linky
i haven't watched it/them, as they hold no interest to me, but i'm told there's gameplay shown, and i imagine it's interesting to some of the people who've posted in this thread before.
enjoy. _________________

Nearly had a heartattack. I thought for a second that it was going to be main entry in the series, like Dragon Quest 9.
But it's just a spinoff so its okay.
Anyway on the note of FF12, I just finished FFX for the first time (and yes the ending did make me cry) so I'm a little FF'ed for now.

my apologies if there's something wrong with the description. i'm not a fan of the series, and was merely reporting it, as it was reported to me. _________________
