POST YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC/ARTIST IN ANY PARTICULAR GAME(S)
Alot of the time people ignore the music in games and don't really give appreciation, although sometimes thats because its downright crap and not very catchy. However there are some games that truly have amazing scores.
Anyhoo Ill start it off...
Games Im vouching are.. well a series anyhoo is MGS(2 and 3 anyway, 4 soudns good too, williams didnt do MGS1) Harry-Gregson Williams does an excellent job in that with music that gives me the shivers.
The music in that game truly brings out how you should feel, tense or relaxed and sets in your atmosphere. Not to mention sounds like a blockbuster movie
I also like Nobou Uematsu in many of the FF games..
(sorry I know this is a bit one console sided at the moment but someone will post a game music thing they like) _________________ xfire = andylulz

It's difficult to choose a favourite. I like the music in Smash Bros Melee, the Disgaea series, God Hand, FFX/X-2, KH/KH2, Luigi's Mansion, Kirby Canvas Curse, Dr Mario, Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door, Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island and the theme from Starfox. I think that's most of it. _________________

I really like the music from Oblivion its very atmospheric. The Halo titles also have very catchy tunes and they have good OSTs. _________________

The Zelda music is one that is always in my head along with Mario... and I think a long time ago I liked the Killer Instinct soundtrack...

My favourite soundtrack would have to be FFXI's, it's just amazing; probably one of the major differences between it and WoW that will mean I'll always prefer the former. Honourable mentions go to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Castlevania: PoR and Killer 7. _________________

I'm huge fan of videogame music. Not in the sense that I'll listen to it when I'm out doing my thing or whatever, but more that I find them to be incredibly important at bringing a game to life. I have a great amount of respect for the guys and gals responsible for bringing music to games. I'll see if I can remember a few of the standout examples that appealed to me.
I really like the soundtrack for Space Channel 5 Part 2. I'd play that game over and over just to listen to those catchy beats.
The Halo series has one of the best orchestrated soundtracks in recent history. Just hearing that score is enough to send shivers down my spine. It's weird that this is case seeing as I'm not even that big a Halo fan. I guess that just goes to show how great the soundtrack is.
The soundtracks for The Longest Journey and Dreamfall are very effective at creating that fantastical atmosphere that gives those games their charm. The Dreamfall's score in particular is one soundtrack I wouldn't mind having a copy of to listen to at my leisure.
ICO and Sotc have some of the most emotive game soundtracks I've ever listened to. I can even get chocked up listening to some of those songs, mainly because of the links the tracks have to the more intimate events that occur in their respective games.
Killer7 has a kick ass soundtrack. You've really got to hand it to the guys at Grasshopper. It would have seemed like a near impossible task; to create a soundtrack that could match the tripped out art style of the game and yet they freaking nailed it. Its eclectic mix of melodic-electro-whatever-the f**k is just as captivating as the rest of the game. I'm actually trying to track down a copy of the album, as I've listened to the mp3's countless times over and still love what I hear. It's brilliant.
There are so many more soundtracks I could go into (Ratchet & Clank, Okami, UT etc...) but I'm dead tired. I shall continue this later... _________________

So freakin' true. Right from the guitar lick over the N64 logo at the start.
My Favourite sountrack has got to be Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo, but most of you probably knew that already.
The Whole Metroid Series also has excellent music, every single game.

Agreed. The two Prime games though are the best as far as I am concerned, probably as they were the first Metroid games I had played thoroughly. (well I did play both Zero Mission and Fusion between Prime and Echoes, but anyway)
Capoeira, damn man your post sums up my thoughts to a tee on every soundtrack you have listed. With the exception of The Longest Journey and Dreamfall though as I haven't played either game or heard their soundtracks.
Anyway the regulars around here would know that I own quite a few of the official OSTs from various games. I'm not going to list them all again though (do a search for one of my previous posts if you are really interested).
My favourite OSTs come from Perfect Dark, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess, the Final Fantasy games and the Katamari games.
There are many more though. I love my video game music. _________________

i don't really get into game music all that often. i find i usually only notice it when it's really bad, or really good.
i also don't think licenced music counts as game music either, even in the case where that's the point (ie: GH).
a few games i do love though:
Quake and Quake 2, American McGee's Alice - hiring bands to score games is tops.
Doom 3 - similar to above, but the way the score changes in real-time to what's happening onscreen is pretty organic feeling. adds tension too.
FEAR - same as Doom 3, except not scored by a band.
World of Warcraft - i'm apparently one of the few people in my guild who leaves the music on in WoW, but there are elements and themes i love. especially the Molten Core music, which is used in several areas in the game also (SM and Scarlet Strat come immediately to mind.)
Star Wars: Force Commander - i loved the remixes of the original SW scores that were created for this game. many people didn't though. _________________

Mario, Metroid, Zelda, DKC series and Kirby all have terrific theme music. I also like the music from Ouendan and We <3 Katamari. I agree with Cap as well, Halo really does have that epic soundtrack attached to it. I think the game which is best enhanced by music (besides music games obviously) is We <3 Katamari. I really couldn't imagine playing that game to any other set of songs. That game wouldn't be as special without that crazy music playing throughout. _________________

Oh yeah!
Right now I'm renaming tracks to go on my mp3 player and I'm currently doing Ocarina Of Time.
My favourite game soundtrack, I listen to it all the time. My favourite track is the Gerudo Valley, brilliant stuff.
And of course, Mario plays through my head quite often.
I really like the Fable soundtrack and what I've heard of Oblivion is pretty great. _________________

Sh!t, I knew I forgot a big one. The soundtrack from American McGee's Alice is hauntingly beautiful and fits the twisted world of Wonderland perfectly. I believe it was scored by Chris Vrenna of NiN/Tweaker fame, and it certainly shows.
I haven't really gone into games with licensed soundtracks because they're aren't exactly as impressive as an original score but this one deserves a mention. SSX 3 had one of the best track lists around and I still feel holds the top spot when it comes down to licensed soundtracks. The music just really appealed to me, so much so that I actually bought the official soundtrack and a few albums from some of the DJs featured within. I still listen to it from time to time.
Nismo, I don't know how big an adventure game fan you are, but if you do get a chance, grab The Longest Journey and give it a go. If there's one game that'll make an adventure gamer out of you, that'll be it And I can pretty much guarantee that you will love Dreamfall, so get to it! Also, the soundtrack is available to download here, if you wanted to give it a listen. I'd recommend it to anyone actually. A few samples from the Dreamfall soundtrack can be found here. _________________

Hm I should of probably made the music thread more broad sorry, but i dlike to change this a bit.
Genji: Days of the Blade on PS3 has a horrible and not very catchy soundtrack. Although it stays traditional to the type of music that would be played and *sort of* adds to the battle it really doesnt sound very good.
I think they are probably like 20 seconds tracks repeated over and over again in one level and its just horrible, If it werent for the sexy graphics and obviously good gameplay Id drop the damn game right now!
The music sticks to tradtional (japanese/chinese?) music and as said before is probably in the right context for it, however its not very appealing, and rather than setting the atmosphere it just reduces the quality of the game =(
Creators of this game could've done with a bit of more creativity or imagination in the music department... anyway its all IMO, plus not many will know what im talking about as of yet _________________ xfire = andylulz
