Hey, I've been hanging out for this movie for ages, and just found out that there's advanced screenings for it in the next week, even though it isn't released until next year.
It's from the director of Hellboy and Blade 2 (Guillermo del Toro) but it looks like nothing else I've ever seen (with perhaps the exception of the highly overlooked movie MirrorMask).
Anyway, just watch the trailer here: http://www.panslabyrinth.com
And the details for the screenings are:
SYDNEY:
WHEN: Thursday 14 December, 2006
TIME: 7pm sharp
WHERE: Greater Union Cinemas, 505 George Street, Sydney
PRICE: $12
HOW: Online at www.greaterunion.com.au ($1 booking fee applies for internet sales) or in person over the counter at Greater Union George St Cinemas. Tickets cannot be purchased over the phone.
MELBOURNE:
WHEN: Monday 18 December, 2006
TIME: 6.30pm sharp
WHERE: Kino Dendy Cinemas, 45 Collins Street, Melbourne
PRICE: $12
HOW: Tickets can be purchased via Kino Dendy box office in person or via phone on 03 9650 2100.
There's apparently one in Brisbane as well on the 18th at the Dendy, I'm sussing that out and I'll post when I know.

ooh, nice.
big fan of Del Toro's work, and loved Mirrormask (which i kinda equate to an update of Labyrinth, with David Bowie and his Charismatic Crotch). this looks a fair sight more intense though, if it's R Rating is anything to go on.
damn shame Perth misses out on an advanced screening though. _________________

Wasn't Pan the **** god? He just went around having sex with everybody (to the point of duplicating himself in order to have huge orgies).

kinda, i seem to remember him as essentially being the Court Jester of the Greek Gods.
i do remember he was also known for being highly sexual though. _________________

Nice. Gotta keep this one on the radar.

You remind me of the babe.

Hopefully this is why it's rated R. _________________

I hope this is more Labyrinth and less Mirror Mask. Loved the first, could not make it thru the second. Waste of a rental that movie. _________________

There are preview screenings at the following cinemas from January 12 - 14 2007 only.
Melbourne : Kino Dendy, Nova, Palace George, Village Jam Factory, Village Southland, Hoyts Chadstone
Sydney : Greater Union George Street, Dendy Newtown, Palace Verona, Greater Union Castle Hill, Hayden Cremorne
Brisbane : Dendy Brisbane, El Dorado
Adelaide : Palace Nova Eastend, Greater Union Marion
Perth : Luna Cinemas, Hoyts Carousel
I'm not sure if these were open to the public for sale though. You may need a pass to get in (some places have been running competitions and giving them away).

It's due for local wide release on January 18. No need to rush to the previews I guess. _________________

Can't wait for this film to get released down here. I've got no clue what the film is about or who is in it, but once I heard Del Toro was attached to it I was sold. It's going to be my first film of the year! _________________

haha, same.
the effects/art design looks pretty special though, so that's a bonus. _________________

Anyone having trouble finding a session near them? So far, BCC is only playing it in 4 different cinemas... Luckily, I will be going to Brisbane the next weekend (27-28 Jan) to stay at the Hilton. I'm going to go see it at chermside I think, maybe even go Gold class just to experience it though I'm sure Gold class would not be worth the price.

I'm hoping it is at the Cinema Como seeing as that place is awesome (standard ticket prices for Gold/La Premiere style luxury) and is just down the road from me.
In any case I'm going to see it next Tuesday with some mates regardless of where it's showing so I'm sure I'll put up my opinions in the movies thread.

I'm going to see it in the next couple of days sometime, probably at Nova as that's where it's showing closest to me.
Can't wait. _________________

I wanted to see this movie so badly but there aren't any cinemas near me that are playing it. If I wanted to go see it the closest Cinema is in Souhtland and thats like a 20 - 30 minute drive from my house and I'm not gonna make my mum drive me there. So I'm not going to see it. _________________

Seeing Pan's Labyrinth it tonight! Woo! Will post impressions.
I just hope I haven't over hyped the film in my head. I've checked out it's page on rottentomatoes.com and the things the critics have been saying are pretty darn impressive. I don't think I've ever seen a film that's been as universally praised as this has, so maybe I should just shut all that stuff out before I finally sit down to watch it. I still have no clue what the films about btw. _________________

Last I checked it had an 8.4/10 on IMDb with over 8,000 votes... so the odds of it being really bad aren't too likely.

Saw the movie tonight. Sat just a little too close to the screen because we got there kinda late, luckily we made it before the movie started.
The movie was good. Great acting and directing was the first thing that stood out to me. The little girl the story focuses on really did do a wonderful job. There was a lot of cool special effects/make-up on the fairy tale creatures and some very very nice CGI. Don't wanna say too much about the movie so as to not spoil it, only thing I will say is that I wish more time was spent in the labyrinth as opposed to reality.
Look forward to hearing what others think. _________________

Very interested in this movie but am curious as to whether it is subtitled?
Is this movie made in English? Dubbed?
Not a deterrent by any means but worth noting. _________________
