Although unlike Obsolete, I also read through after I complete games to find any secrets (like the early Blunderbuss in American McGee's Alice).

heh - actually i didn't think of this. i usually do this too. i don't usually go back and complete a game to 100% anymore, but if i find something that sounds really cool, i'll try and find it.

Even if I'm finding a game to be reasonably hard (like GRAW for example) I generally won't use a guide for the game. For obvious reasons too really, I don't want the experience to be spoiled by a possible spoiler that may be in a guide or I won't use one because I like to figure it out myself.

That said I have used quite a few guides and will still do so in the years to come. Take Condemned as a recent example, I'd play through a chapter of that game by myself figuring out what I'd have to do and whatever and then I would re-do that chapter again using a guide to find the birds and metal pieces that you need to in-game. Surprisingly though I always managed to find at least 4 birds and 2 of the metal pieces in each chapter so I was quite happy with that.

When I finally managed to play through and complete Final Fantasy VII last year I admit, I used a guide for it. From start to finish. I didn't feel as if I was ruining the experience though as when I was younger I had played through until the end of disc 2 (although I didn't remember most of it) and also I decided to use a guide so that I wouldn't miss anything important on the first run through the game. I've also used guides for FFVIII and FFIX, although that was after I had finished both.

Yeah, anyway, generally I won't use a guide for a game but at the same time I don't have a problem doing so if I feel it's necessary at the time.

Very very rarely... if I'm stuck on something for a while I will at least try to figure out what needs to happen and then look up what I have to do to make that happen.

Example: I need to blow up a boulder in the way of a door, I know I have to blow it up and I know where the bombs are, but I can't get to the door quick enough while holding the bomb.

A lot of the time it ends up being something so simple that is just overlooked, probably the same for everyone.

Also...

Sometimes a walkthrough is as gooD as a fresh pair of eyes, without the wait.

Very true.

Personally, i think it is cheating. If you're looking up the answers for how to do something, how is that not cheating? I have used guides before but not until I've finished the main story like people have said, to get bonus stuff. Usually in Final Fantasy icon_razz.gif
