Seriously, this game is heaps of fun. The controls took awhile to get used to, but now it feels good. Turning is not a big of a problem, infact it isn't a problem at all. Headshots feel good too. The graphics keep getting better and better.
Multiplayer is weak in 2 player, but good in 4 player, mainly because there are no bots. The only downside is that there is no music.
Story wise, who cares, it's a shooter. But the failed attempt of stylized comic book cutscenes are really, really dreadful and are boring to look at. Other then that, I'm enjoying myself. _________________

are you finding the controls a great invention, or merely an adequate adaption?
and who said anything about shooters not needing a story?

I only had a short time with Red Steel (bout an hour) last week and found it to be WAY better than expected.

Great thread title. I've only had a few minutes with Red Steel so far and wasn't too impressed, but then I didn't really know what was going on. After I'm done with Zelda I'll give it another look. _________________

I've been so worried because when I picked up my wii, my mom bought me three games for chirstmas and I grabed red steel.. I come home and I hear all these HORRIBLE reviews, but of course I can't play it yet since it's all wrapped up taunting me under our tree. DDD:
This gives me some hope. <3

It doesn't have aliens. Nowadays, a shooter must have aliens in order to be any good at all.
Actually, I think it looks alright.
I've heard it kinda hearkens back to the days of Goldeneye, when shooters were much simpler than they are now. I wouldn't be surprised if I enjoy it very much- especially since I've become so disillusioned with more modern FPS's.

I'm slowly warming to this, it just needs time. It's easy to see why many hate it, even after an hour or so of play it was feeling like a waste of money as I was constantly struggling with the controls, but I think I'm getting the hang of it now and it's actually quite fun in places.
On a side note, is anyone else really loving the music as much as I seem to be? _________________

I haven't played the game nor do I own it so my opinion is probably irrelevant here but if the music I have heard during gameplay footage is anything to go by, abso-bloody-lutely!
Is there an official OST for it? _________________

I cancelled my preorder on seeing the terrible reviews, switched it to Zelda... Hyper's gonna be getting it though, so I'll see what he says... _________________

How many people who owned a N64, and played Turok for the first time had difficulty with the controls? I know I did, but it ended up being a pretty good control scheme for FPS.
Just give it time, you'll genuinely know whether it's crap or not after playing it for a while, don't just judge it straight away based on reviews (for those who have been). My way of knowing whether a game is good or not is by me playing it, I don't need a review at all to help me make a decision.
Besides, if I don't like a game after buying it I take it to EB

I struggled with Turok at first, I was used to Goldeneye.
It seems US reviews hate the game but Europeans like it. Good for Pal eh. _________________

Hmm, I'll probably rent this. _________________

i had been playing call of duty the last couple of days which most reviews said were better. just borrowed red steel off a mate and i dont think the controls are bad compared to call of duty. they are both similar. red steel does turn slower but its not ridiculous slow. just turn and strafe around corners. simple.
the graphics in red steel arent exactly blowing me away. some moments in zelda have though and thats a cube title.
i think (and hope) the graphics will improve over the years (eg - re4 on cube)

I've been playing with it today too, whiles disappointed it takes abit of getting use to. Once you do the control ain't that bad at all. _________________

i too have the game, but can't play until Christmas. I actually could play it without anyone knowing, something which one of my friends said to do, but I have four other Wii titles to keep me amused. And they're all good.
I always thought Red Steel wouldn't be too bad. But reviews around the web left me with a bitter feeling. However, I'm guessing most web reviews rushed the game, not getting acustomed to its style.
The best review I've read was on CVG. They gave it an 8, from memory, and it seemed like well placed scroe to me. They stated the problems, mentioned how they prefered turning around in COD3 and said it was still a fun title to play. _________________

i didn't like the game from the admittedly small amount i did play, but it wasn't really a control issue, it was more that it still felt like a console FPS, and for that reason i didn't like it.
i dunno, i might rent it once i'm done with Zelda and give a more in-depth opinion, but i imagine by then there'll be something better to actually buy anyway. _________________

I'm going to have to jump on the bandwagon and agree with most people here - it takes some time to warm to the controls, but once you do there's a good amount of fun to be had. I got the chance to play some four-player split-screen tonight, and it was a blast. The hitman mode especially can be great - although the objectives can be a real hassle. Still, there's nothing quite like using the wiimote to answer a phone call only to hear "Kill The Waiter with a shotgun" or somesuch - like some kind of ludicrous cluedo with guns _________________

Yep, same this with COD3 I've been running through that popping guys in the head with ease, the controls are good once you warm up to it. _________________ I update this Signature once a year, I better make it a good one... no wait can't be bothered.

I'll add my agreeableness to the control scheme, i got a bit pissed off when i first started, but now im 3 hours into it and having a ball, especially bopping up and down to the music *the soundtrack does kick ass*. I've only hired it out for today (well i got it at the end of work last night *a saturday night at a video store when it is pouring down rain is absolute chaos...so i had a beer and went to bed within an hour and a half*...but got up nice and early today to have a full wiiday.
Best news ever is that once i finish my shift on monday i get 18 full days off work as my holidays...*score!* (i originally only took off 10 days, but seeing i have work flat out since august, they are getting the other staff members to fill in for my shifts). So i might get to finish all my games by this year.

The controlls are dodgy in the turning department, it is so hard to turn properl.
Apart from that i dont really have a problem with controlls. Its the graphics I have a problem with........ I swear to god Perfect Dark on the N64 looks better than Red Steel _________________ Wii Console Code:

I think Red Steel looks damn good, considering. The art direction is spot on, and they really went all out putting little extra touches in - like the heat haze on the airport tarmac and water/glass dispersion effects. destructible cover and such. No, it doesn't hold a candle to Gear of War, but it's still a good looking game. _________________
