Since no one's started up a specific VC thread, let's have one here.
I was just perusing the OFLC's database and I noticed listings for Virtual Console titles, some of which are new:
- R - TYPE III - THE THIRD LIGHTNING (NEW)
- SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV
- GRADIUS
- XEVIOUS
- STREET FIGHTER II - THE WORLD WARRIOR
- SUPER PROBOTECTOR - ALIEN REBELS (aka Contra III: The Alien Wars)
- ALTERED BEAST
- GOLDEN AXE
- TOEJAM & EARL
- SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
- GUNSTAR HEROES
- SPACE HARRIER II
- RISTAR
- ECCO THE DOLPHIN
- DR. ROBOTNIK'S MEAN BEAN MACHINE
- COLUMNS
- WARIO'S WOODS
- ICE HOCKEY
- SOCCER
- TENNIS
- THE LEGEND OF ZELDA
- THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK TO THE PAST
- F-ZERO
- SIMCITY
- MARIO BROS.
- DONKEY KONG
- SUPER MARIO WORLD
- DONKEY KONG JR
- PINBALL
So it looks like we're getting a pretty decent line-up. Surprised they're still calling Contra Probotector though, when Microsoft just released Contra on Live Arcade.
So what are you all looking forward to? What do you want to see on there. This is the thread for Virtual Console. Discuss. _________________

Is this the list of games we'll be getting next thursday?
Cause its a lot larger than i have seen elsewhere (u c, i've been basing it off wikipedia's entry)
I'm looking out for Super Mario RPG personally, but will most likely download these sometime down the track (from that list):
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Ristar (its a platformer, so yeah maybe)
- Wario's Woods (maybe not as its a puzzle game)
- Legend of Zelda (NES)
- Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
- F-Zero (a good classic racing game? don't know as i've never played it b4...)
- Mario Bros.
- Donkey Kong
- Donkey Kong Jr.
- Super Mario World (maybe not, as i have it on SNES, and its still hooked up & ready whenever i want to play)
or from the Wikipedia list:
- Donkey Kong Country (may reconsider, as same deal with Super Mario World)
- Super Mario 64 (similar to SMW & DKC, i still have my 64 hooked up & ready to play)

Well, the XBLA game is the arcade game, and it was never Probotector in the arcade. It was actually called Gryzor in PAL, but I've seen two Contra cabinets in Australia too.
It seems the point of the VC is for people to play the games as they were in their own territory. I'm a huge Contra fan (I've got every game), but I've got a soft spot for Probotector too, so I'm glad it's not been forgotten.
I may have to get a Japanese Wii eventually for the Japanese VC games. It's not like it will take up much room, and in a year it will probably be quite affordable.

No, this is just a list of games that have been rated by the OFLC so far. Release date is usually within a couple of months of being rated, so they shouldn't be too far off. _________________

There is a severe lack of Metroid in the Virtual Console list.
| Mitchacho wrote: | | Ecco the dolphin...wasn't that a dreamcast game?? |
newb.
There were 2 Ecco the Dolphin games on Mega Drive/Genesis along with improved ports on Sega CD (1992 and 1994). Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future came out on Dreamcast in 2000. _________________

^lol ok.
F-Zero has been reviewed again at Gamespot and has been given one of the highest rated scores in the Wii section :S. I'll be getting that as well as Zelda: A Link to the Past. Wake me up with Donkey Kong Country's come out.

I hope they bring out Yoshi's Island and Super Mario World soon, I want to get Yoshi's Island again. Other than that, I'll take my pick of any games that I feel like getting. Nice list. _________________

Dude...dude...that would be brilliant. Mario RPG was bloody awesome and Chrono (even though overrated) will be a great addition.
Can anyone clear up this Rare story with them releasing games on VC? I know that Reggie said that he would love for Goldeneye to be, but tip-toed around if it would happen.

Goldeneye being released on the Wii would be the most incredible achievement of the Virtual Console - and not only because everyone who owned a Wii would buy it. Given that the developer (Rare) is now owned by Microsoft and the license to James Bond is owned by EA the legal problems would make this near impossible.
It's almost more likely to see a port on the XBLA than the Wii if only for the reason that Microsoft have more money to make it happen (and they at least still believe in Rare, whereas Nintendo said farewell).
Regardless, a port of Goldeneye with updated controls (proper aiming!) and online play would blow 90% of new games out of the water. Talk about a game to give the Wii online a kick start!

Microsoft bought Rare, and that was it. I don't think Nintendo dislike Rare, but the licensing is a difficult hurdle, for sure. We'll have to see what Nintendo come up with (or don't come up with). _________________

ppjim3, I think you'll find that EA no longer own the Bond name, I'm pritty sure it's Activision. Also, don't Nintendo have rights to the code if I'm not mistaken? I should know by now, this has been debated about thousands of times!
However, bottomline is that it would rock. _________________

Why Goldeneye? I played it some months ago and it was severely dated. Perfect Dark would make more sense and would be easier. _________________

Perfect Dark doesn't get the love it deserves.
And now I'm going to mention Tetris Attack, as I do in every Virtual Console topic I post in.
Tetris Attack Tetris Attack Tetris Attack.
And Pokémon Puzzle League. _________________

You are most probably right about Activison, alas it makes no difference who owns it if it isn't Rare. I'm also pretty sure depending on specific contractual agreements the developer would own the code + IP. I say this in relation to Rare especially because they own Diddy Kong while Nintendo still owns Donkey Kong as Rare created Diddy (and pals).
Just to make the point (though it means little) Nintendo actually released Rare after their 2nd party contracted period - they had the option to pick them back up and declined. I can't say they made the wrong choice at the moment either - granted it could have been Nintendo's hand which helped them craft their best work (and some of the 64s classics).
To think the 64 was Nintendo's first commercial un-success and featured the the most 'greatest games of all time' ever on a console just makes me sad. If only the Wii had a physical 64 cart slot!

Come to think of it, I already have 2 copies of that and even more of NES Metroid so what's the point really? _________________

That would be the crux of the issue. The only point would be convenience, you wouldn't have to unplug your Wii to play Metroid. _________________

Hmm, I'm not so sure you are correct about that ppjim3. If Rare owned Diddy, I'm sure they would be using him to make games like Diddy Kong Racing 360 and wouldn't let Nintendo have access to him anymore. Since the split of Rare and Nintendo, Diddy has appeared in Nintendo games such as Donkey Konga, MK: DD, Mario Golf and baseball (among others) while he has appeared on no Rare games for the xbox. (Unless I have misunderstood what you ment)
So if you are right about Rare owning the code, then there would have to be an agreement between Activision Nintendo and Rare (Microsoft), so I doubt that it would occur. If it were just between Nintendo and Activision, now that's another story!
I'd love to see both Sanfransisco Rush and Beetle Adenture Racing appear on the VC, but doubt I'd pay the unjustified (IMO) price for N64 games, $15 or $20 or something. I'm also waiting mainly for Zelda:LttP, Conta games and Joe & Mac 2 (probably wishfull thinking) from SNES. _________________

Earthbound.
Hurry up, Ninty - you can do it.
And hell, since you wont release it normally - translate Mother 3 and shove that in the VC, too. _________________
