I got the demo of DM yesterday off steam...and i though it was...interesting. It was quite similar to The Elder Scrolls IV - oblivion in some ways, and in other ways it was quite different.

I thought it was good you were able to react with your environment, but sometimes it was a little over the top. Also, the level up system seemed a little simple to me.

Even still, i thought it was great fun to play, too bad the demo isn't longer. I will probably buy it.

I played the demo months ago and found it pretty decent, with combat and the light RPG elements being pretty nice.

The full version has had some problems with bugs recently, so I recommend that you wait a little while before purchasing it.

Apparently they just released patch that remedies most of the issues people were having, which is tempting me to pick the game up.

I love how you have quite alot of options for killing.
Do I wait and kick 'em off the ledge?
Do I kick them into that spiked wall?
Do I sneak up and chop their head off?
Do I freeze the ground so they slide into the spiked wall/ off the ledge?
Do I chop that chain so all that lumber comes crushing down on them?

Can't wait until my crossfire PC comes back from the shop. icon_sad.gif
Definitely buying this one.Played the demo and it sold me.

i found a way to hack the demo and use all the spells, and be able to spawn the ogre, to kill it, was fun, but had a memeory leakage which got worse throughout your play session of the demo, the actual demo sold me on the game though

Yeah my PC died and I had no clue wtf was wrong with it even after spending many days fiddling.
Master_boot_volume error n shiz so I thought that it was the HDD, so i go to format and loads all the XP drivers then says cannot install because HDD is not connected..WTF?!?!
Hmm so i think the HDD is dead.oh well.I take it to the shop the hear that massive amounts of dust had killed my PC.
The only survivors were the DVD RW drive , 2 sticks 1 gig DDR2 ram ,CPU and my X850XTPE.
So when I heard I was like "GraAAHHHH!!!"
So I thought instead of getting it replaced I might as well upgrade.
So I got a crossfire enabled motherboard, intel core duo CPU,and 550watt PSU.And when the DX 10 ATI/AMD cards come out I can use that in conjunction with my X850XTPE.

2 weeks until I pick it up.
I'm going to totally dust proof my case when I get it back though with the stockings technique.

So in the end dust in the PSU had caused fluctuating voltages which shorted the motherboard and dust had had gotten into the HDD also.
Dust kills.

yeah dust is a real killer, whether it clogs up shonky CPU fans or gets into your PSU. my PSU gave up the day for what i guess was about an hour. anyway the computer just shut itself down and the CPU refused to initialise on reboot! it fixed itself up however when the heat dissipated so i got lucky.

whats giving me probs at the moment is my VGA. it displays artifacts on the screen even when it isn't rendering and is lacking in general display features such as colours, videos and resolution. i can't tell if its the AGP slot, PSU or the VGA. I hate running diagnostics icon_evil.gif

anyway good work on the crossfire (even though im favouring nVidia these days). the 8800GTX just got released so prepare for price drops!!

How fast is the CPU? and are youu getting more RAM?
I would. 2 gigs, or 1.5 is really great for running high end games, such as the aforementioned Dark Messiah.

^(x2) i only have 1 gig (sob) and can't afford anymore but DMM&M worked fine on my PC, well...except for the time when it froze and I had to restart the PC with teh override...which was not cool.

The only things I know about PC-guts is what I've seen on gg, which is kinda sad.

one thing i've got an issue with is how this game installs.

when i installed it, it asked me where to put it, and i made a directory with the rest of my games (D:\Games\DMMnM) and it installed there fine.

but then it also installed it to the Steam directory, so i've got the same game installed twice.

stupid thing.

doesn't finish there though, for some reason the MP mode in the directory i prescribed doesn't work, but SP does, but vice-versa for the Steam directory install (SP is trying to DL from the Steam store.)

bah i say. BAH!

Yeah. i heard that this game had tons of glitches with regards to setup. No chance of simply moving the files manually?

Multiplayer is steam only, that's how it was designed.

i know MP is supposed to be via Steam, but what is the fcuking point of installing it twice?

seriously, i have 4 shortcuts to the game:
Dark Messiah Might and Magic Single Player - links to chosen destination (works)
Dark Messiah Might and Magic Multiplayer - links to chosen destination (doesn't work)
Launch Dark Messiah Might and Magic Single Player - links to Steam directory (doesn't work - not installed/download paused)
Launch Dark Messiah Might and Magic Multiplayer - links to Steam directory (works)

it's fcuking retarded.

i would copy and paste, but:
1) i don't know which files are needed from one to the other. they use different names and extensions.
2) why would i want the same game installed in 2 locations?

i really should backup my saves and try a reinstall to the default location, despite having all my games on another HDD, perhaps its a bug in the "Choose a destination" option.

Those were the days...Dark Messiah offers up plenty of action that eventually wears thin.

Though the first-person combat isn't as precise as it could be, this one's still a good choice for some online magic blasting fun. Just don't expect a memorable story or characters if you're more interested in the single player content.
