Whilst that's true, they'd argue that a single dead pixel does not mean a faulty product, nor one that is incapable of functioning properly.
You do have every right to inspect the product before purchasing it though. _________________

Add Yesasia.com, Movietyme.com and Videogamesplus.ca to your list and you've got all the best ones covered. _________________

A single dead pixel means that your ds is faulty. Nintedo will fix it if there is 1 dead pixel.
And dude that is not of merchantible qualioty so you can go to EB and say if it is not returned i will SUE. They legally have to return the DS.

Does anyone know of any DS games that use the microphone? So far I've only played one, and that was Yoshi's Touch and Go. It didn't belong to me though.

Super Princess Peach uses the mic to control the weapons on the submarine.
there's also a mini-game that uses the mic to jump too.
i've got something else that uses the mic too, in a similar capacity, but not sure what. =/ _________________

another code uses the mic in one part, but you know when you jusst keep blowing air really hard and you feel faint. Well that is what you feel like when you clean this thing.
Brain age also uses it, and in phoneix wright you can use it for "Hold it" and "Objection"

The universe is against me, I swear.
As if exchanging the DS Lite wasn't hard enough... in the shop it was all fine, came home and I see a bright green pixel glaring at me. Also I just remember I transferred both my Wi-fi ID and friend codes to the DS I just returned to the shop. Stupid stupid me. Just called the guys at EB and tried to explain, they said to go back in tonight and they'd see what they can do.

I have a single dead pixel on the top screen of my DS Lite. Same thing happened when I bought my original DS. Anyway, before I bought the thing (from EB) I asked if I could see that it was all good before buying. They stopped just short of stomping me to the ground and blurted something about not accepting exchanges for dead pixels and that it should go through Nintendo Australia. I told them that they exchanged my original DS for the same thing, and they said their "manager" has said it's not to be done anymore.
Was looking at the great DS Lite FAQ on vooks.net just then and noticed this sentence under the dead pixel question - "Remember under Australian law the shop must take it back if the product is faulty/not functioning properly."
So, should I be going back to EB today and threatening to sue if they don't exchange it?
Should I call Nintendo Australia first and see what the deal is?
Does anyone know if the EB 7 day return guarantee works with consoles also? |
Bring it back!
Threaten to call the ACCC. Make some loud noise so other customers will be disturbed if you don't get what you want/deserve (doing it on a Saturday may help for this). They have to give you another one, but they're just stalling because it's a slight pain in the ass for them. If you carry on enough they'll have to take it. All Coles Myer (Myer, Kmart, Target) and Woolworths (Big W) shops accept returns of hardware up to 30 days, so EBs should at least match that anyway.
Sure, Nintendo will fix it themselves for free, but that's a pain, and you won't have it for two weeks.
Just make EBs do it.

^ All good now. Went back for the second time today and the girl behind the counter who knew about the whole saga opened about 3 or 4 boxes before we found a perfect one. Sucks for them because she said they can't sell the ones we found with dead pixels. I'm happy though. _________________

Man he gets a new DS for 1 dead pixel and I can't even get one for a crack on the hinge and for dust particles getting under the screen.
This is outrageous, i'd honestly rather have the dead pixel! With all the dust I got under the screen it looks like i've got 5 - 6 dead pixels! _________________

Quite fast and good, shipping $$$ is a killer with these guys though. Lik-sang/Play-Asia don't the goods for a bit after it's released, but at least shipping isn't murder. _________________ Shin J Leon.

Is there much you can do to remove that dust under the screen without having to send it back?
& isn't that crack just exterior & doesn't affect the hinge at all?

Yikes, yes I noticed the shipping prices after I posted. Not quite what I expected. I've been trying to locate a cheap copy of Cooking Mama but it seems $40 is the average...oh well.
Thankyou for the info anyway

Nope all my crap happened within warranty....unfortunately the crack and dust didn't develop untill like 35-36 days after purchase and when I called EB they said they would have to send it to Nintendo and after speaking to Nintendo I knew it was gonna cost...so I told them to f@#k off! No more Nintendo DS sh!t for me! I'll buy Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and Yoshi's Island 2....but other than that the DS is dead for me. No biggie as I didn't really think it was any good (stylus always ends up being a chore and the graphics suck except for 2d games) anyways.
I've been a loyal customer of Nintendo since Game & Watch....never had a whinge or returned anything (even when I had all the problems with the GBA and GBA SP), so in my books this is unacceptable.
I think David knows a way of cleaning the dust from under the screen but he says it's pretty complicated.
Also Dare....if you had a huge scratch on your car's paint job....would you rather it wasn't there? _________________

I got Cooking Mama from Movietyme for £13, dunno what that is in dollars or what shipping is (its free to the UK) but it's worth a look. _________________

This is outrageous, i'd honestly rather have the dead pixel! With all the dust I got under the screen it looks like i've got 5 - 6 dead pixels! |
Solution 1
Sounds like you need to make more noise. Don't vent on this forum, vent at EBs! Threaten to call the manager or the head office, whatever. There's no way you could have put the dust there yourself, so they should have to fix it.
Solution 2
Sell the DS on ebay. People on ebay are buying them for kids, and don't care about details, because DSes are in high demand and they'll think they're clever for saving a few bucks. Just say in the listing 'well looked after, only played a few times' and you'll get $170 for it (Make it $170 'buy it now' and it will go within days).
Then, take your $170, add in just $10, and go to K-mart or wherever is having the $180 sale and get yourself a brand new Black (or white) DS Lite.
This method is guarranteed as long as you have a decent feedback rating on ebay. Hell, I sold my DS Phat for $180!
Solution 3
Fix the problems yourself. You can pry off the top screen's cover with a needle and a pen knife (be careful not to scratch it though). Clean out the dust with an anti static cloth, then replace the screen. Voila! No more dust!
I've heard that you can fix the hinge very easily with super glue. Just stick a pin in super glue, apply a very small ammount to the crack, press and hold for five minutes.
Solution 4
Follow Solution 3 with Solution 2 and you could sell it 'as new' and may even get a new DS andmake a profit!
| ugh the boot wrote: | | No biggie as I didn't really think it was any good (stylus always ends up being a chore and the graphics suck except for 2d games) anyways. |
Now you're just talking nonsense. Stylus is no more a chore then any other method of control, and the graphics don't suck in Mario Kart and Metroid.
Also, Ouendan is the best handheld game ever made.
