AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!! Well worth staying up for!! Let's hope we make the next round, but as far as I'm concerned, just making the world cup was brilliant! _________________

I was staying upso that I could watch Scrubs, so I watched a bit while I was waiting, and I flicked over after Scrubs was over, but it was 0-1 and I figured that would be that. Damn. _________________

greece won the EUFA Cup 2 years ago (Europe teams only). completely different ball game when it's worldwide. greece are lucky to get passed the first round i reckon.

^ no they don't, they were flat for the first 15 after half time, made far too many mistakes in defense that better teams would of punished.
We will be very lucky or play shit tins better than we did against Japan to get a result against Brazil. _________________

'i dont know much about soccer but this ronaldo guy you people are talking about cant be that good to carry a whole team through to the best team in the world (well thats what it says on fifa world cup 2006)'
I presume you mean Ronaldinho, and yes, he's almost certainly the best player in the world:
Goal vs Chelsea
Goal vs Madrid
He hardly carries Brazil either - the front quartet of him, Kaka, Adriano and Ronaldo is one of the most impressive attacking line-ups in World Cup history, no doubt. All four are superb talents who, at the top of their game, can each destroy any team in the world. The whole side is incredibly strong, with the only possible weakness being at left-back (Roberto Carlos has enjoyed a rough season at Madrid and likes to bomb forward a little too much at times) and in defensive midfield (like Carlos, Emerson is past his best). And of course, they are only human.
Australia's chances of a win? The bookies here say 16-1, with a draw at 5-1.
'and croatia, are they good?
Not bad, but I think Australia have what it takes to beat them. Croatia will go into that game as favourites, but with Hiddink at the helm, there's a chance you could get the three points and get to the knockouts.
'i reckon if we beet greece which we did then we are a good chance against brazil because didnt greece win the world cup not long ago?
You ain't playing Greece mate, because they aren't even in the tournament.
'and how many stages are there until the final?'
After the three group games, there's a round of 16, a quarter-final, semi-final and final.

^ They did, but I think hes talking about the last 15 mins or less of the game. They got there act together and were really in top form, if they play constantly like that against Brazil they might have a chance... Or maybe not _________________

Trust me, when ya a Saints fan, you know that they won't play that well for the whole game.
I heard that they should rest some of those guys who got carded as Brazi's attaking style will result in fouls and cards and we can't afford suspensions.
I don't like the idea as that is throwing in the towel before the match has even started. although it does seems unlikely we can win. _________________

/makes a disdainful face.
It would've worked to their advantage more had the Roo's had not an ocean of defenseless space when the Japanese strikers move up to attack. Get this, when the Japanese players kick the ball over to cross, there is always someone there to receive it to continue the ball in play. Not like they kick it to an empty space unlike the Roos on numerous occasions.
The only regretful thing is that Japan brought out their offensive players too slow and only focusing on the defenses for 3/4ths of the game.
It is only much of a shots of chance for the Roos HAD not the goalie (Kawaguchi) slipped up by coming out of his goal to counter the ball. Then and only then had the Roos have their chances to get the ball in, albeit some forceful kicking.
Bottomline: The Roos only got their 'so-called win' because of Japan's forced mistakes. Even if the Roo's did put effort on the field; it wasn't enough to break the Japanese defense in the early parts of the game where they held on good. For this the Roos may get pass to Round 2 but never beyond that.
Aftermath: After the match, people have to deal with walking pass by pubs at night; not a problem unless they are Asian looking. I had my share this afternoon. Guh *rolls eyes*
Side Note: IF ever the Roos have to face England; either outcome of win or lose, I'll be exiling myself into my room for a week. Its too dangerous to step outside then. _________________

^Oh dear....
And I suppose the 'brilliant' goal the Japanese scored was fair and above board. Oh wait no it wasn't, even the referee has admitted he got it wrong.
Seriously take something to get rid of the taste of those sour grapes.

I'd hate to see what would've happened if Japan won.

'So called win'? It was 3-1, and none of the Aussie goals were as controversial as the Nakamura one. Legitimate shots that made the back of the net. The whole spoint of Hiddink's strategy was to strike when Japan were tiring out, hence Cahill and Aloisi were brought on late in the game. _________________

Hiddink is some sort of freak. He has signed for Russia straight after this World Cup so we can't rely on him anymore. I know he has some Assistant Coaches and hopefully he rubs off some brilliance onto his successors. I feel sorry for Frank Farina, though. We did so shit when he was coach (in comparison to nowadays), and now he writes newspaper articles giving support for the team. How inferior would he be feeling?
Anyway, Crotia played pretty well against Brazil, so we will have a good match against them. I hoped that Brazil would smash them, though, because we are inevitably fighting for the 2nd spot in the group, and the less points Croatia and Japan gets the better. We are in such a good position right now to go to Round 2.

Yea, Croatia looked damn impressive against Brazil, must say. Limited them greatly, and there was every sign this Croatian side could be as much of a menace at this World Cup as it was in France in 1998. Suddenly, I'm not so sure how easy the Aussies will find getting three points from them. As you say, the key may be making sure that, if you are going to lose against Brazil, you do so by a small margin. A draw between Oz and Croatia, and suddenly goal difference will prove vital.

Did anyone see the Spain match last night? I only saw one of their goals but they look very impressive from the few highlights i've seen! (I know they're not in our group)
Definately goal of the tornament so far! _________________ CamDS

Hmmm, do you mean the last goal? 'Cos if so, yea, I agree - was quality, the way Puyol stormed forwards from defence then set up Torres = Spain did look very impressive as a whole, but were helped by one of the most bizarre red cards I've ever seen.
England play tomorrow. Why do I get the feeling we're going to cock this up?

England have underperformed this world Cup, although so have Germany. Never under-estimate the English i guess but Spain looked dominating, the Dutch play tonight.

England, Brazil and France have all been a bit dodgy this World Cup so far. Spain, the Czechs and Argentina (who are currently walking all over Serbia & Montenegro with embarassing ease) have impressed me most. Would help if we learnt that there was a different type of pass in football, as opposed to the 40-yard cross-field balls which we use constantly.

^ Man Argentina were on fire last night. They really played the game well and that must have been really embarassing for Serbia & Montenegro - 6-0, talk about over kill!
Also just have to comment how impresive I found Croatia, seriously I cant wait for Monday this is going to be a really interesting match. Lets just hope Australia plays top form against Brazil. _________________

That was like watching my own soul being thrown into the fiery depths of hell. What the hell happened to Serbia? We absolutely smashed things up in the qualifying rounds Then again, we lost our main attacker and main defence in warmup through injury. but still, it was horrible to watch. I swear that referee was against us _________________
