and with the special edition - i think the big addition is that you can play through a fat portion of the game as Virgil + costumes and all that stuff

Additions:
Playable Vergil (not just a skin, a fully fleshed out character on Dante's level)
Bloody Palace (essentially a training mode. 9999 levels of random fights)
Gold mode (easier continue system)
New difficulty levels (All difficulty levels bumped down a notch, except DMD)
Dullahans actually attack now
New costumes for the characters, with extra special ultimate costumes (I won't spoil it, but they're awesome)
I imported the game months ago when I learned that they weren't releasing it here.

I've heard the reason for the delay is an agreement with Ubisoft concerning the PC version which they're publishing in the next few weeks.
