Good list.

Must be alot of closet GC owners because I would have thought a PC, Xbox or PS2 game would have been the most anticipated game in 2006.

Actually I'm looking forward to Prey on Xbox 360. Definitely looking forward to picking up God of War (Platinum) and Ico this year as well.

no, most people here are quite open about the fact they own a NGC.
besides, it's hardly something to be ashamed about.

unless you are talking about those people who play their games in a closet, in which case i misunderstood you.

Nope no misunderstanding.

Given the very few GCs sold and given the population size of PALGN I expected the most anticipated game to be on a more popular medium. Guess I'm surprised.

Alternatively as time passes more and more I get less enthused by each Nintendo iteration. So maybe I'm biased in my thinking somehwat.

The thing is, casual gamers (who think PS2 = God) probably spend little time in video game related activities when they're not playing the latest GTA iteration. So they probably don't go to video game sites, even less would go the forums of said sites, and far far fewer would actually post in a forum or take part in surveys.

On the other hand, most "hardcore" gamers (who do spend time on forums and do take part in surveys) know it's all about Nintendo. Except you, but you're wrong. icon_razz.gif

I have nothing against Nintendo, I love their work and buy their games, but there's just not enough games for GC. There's even less if you're a fan of strategy or RPG (or FPS, or...) Usually there will be one good GC title in each genre, but I need MOAR! The PS2 has way better RPGs for starters.

Yeah this is true, although the few great games on GC are the greatest of this generation in my opinion.

That's not what I meant really anyway. Over the course of my life, Nintendo has provided me with more video game pleasure than all the rest of the companies put together. The DS (and its success) has just shown once again that they are the most innovative of all video game companies, and it is because of them that we can look towards the future of gaming with great hope.

That is not generally true. I think there would be a lot of gamers out there anticipating how well Twilight Princess will perform, regardless of what systems they follow/enjoy. Zelda is a landmark franchise and is one that people will generally watch closely to see how it performs. And seeing as though the game has been delayed on numerous occasions now I'd suspect that the interest would rise quite significantly from all parties.

what were the options from the poll?
Zelda: TTP
Dragon Quest VIII
Shadow of the Colossus
Kingdom Hearts 2
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

none of these have quite the history of Zelda.

although personally i voted for SotC, which only marginally sits above STALKER in my anticipation. assuming STALKER ever comes out.

Its funny I used to get all uptight about GC comments did for years but when you finally realise that waiting for Nintendo to bring out one excellent game in a blue moon is just not worth it. Constantly hearing "Quality over Quantity" mantra doesn't cut it after 25 years of gaming. Wind Waker whilst a good game and took me 30 hours to finish and wasn't really what I was hoping for (nowhere near in the same league as ZOOT). Mario Sunshine better left unsaid.

Is TP be better than God of War? Is TP be better than SoC? Is TP better than WoW? Is TP better than Civ 4? Is TP better than RE4 (any version)?

Probably the answer is No. They are all great games (or will be in TP's case).

Apart from Eternal Darkness and Lost Kingdoms II I was pretty disappointed with my GC (I think Ninty are too). Having purchased it at full price day one that mistake will not be repeated with the Revolution (no plans at this stage). I played RE 4 on the PS2 if you needed to know. GC was sold for $160 in May 2005 with 8 games. I bought three 2nd hand Xbox titles with the money. I remember the day well as he left the video cable behind and I had to mail it to the guy. Gave the GBA player to a mate (another waste of $65).

My current preference is for PC play to be perfectly honest.

Having a thousand posts on every forum I visit is (1) not constructive and (2) I have better things to do with my life. If your join date and my join date have anything to go by I've been coming here longer than you have.

So does that make you any less of a game enthusiast? I think not. The fact I'm no longer a Ninty supporter doesn't make me any less an enthusiast.

Mario Sunshine was awesome.

And I get what you're saying, but exactly how many games do you need? Here's my list of great Gamecube games:

Bold = exclusive and brilliant games, italic = GC is the best version, often by a huge margin (eg RE4)

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure
Resident Evil 4*
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat*
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes*
Pikmin 2*
Donkey Konga
1080 Avalanche
Animan Crossing*
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
F-zero GX*
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker*
Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
Metroid Prime*
Resident Evil Zero
Spider-man 2
The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition
Rocky
Timesplitters 2
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Monkey Ball 2
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
Resident Evil*
Pikmin
Super Smash Bros Melee*
Luigi's Mansion
Ultimate Spiter-man
Viewtiful Joe*
Beyond Good and Evil
Ikaruga
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
Killer 7*
Geist

It's fine to not like the GC - the PS2 and PC may have more of the games that you like. But the myth that good games only come out 'one in a blue moon' always annoys me. The list above has 30+ games worth getting, and there are of course many, many more - that's just my list. Games with an asterisk are in my opinion the best games of the generation on any platform, and no other platform would score that many asterisks (though they may potentially have more 'bolds').

And how long did it take for platform X to get good games / killer apps. The GCN is in a drought at the moment, but there were a few games worth buying PoP:WW is probably another multi-plat that is worth getting on the GCN, so that with RE4, Killer 7, USM, Geist puts the list at 5 and I am sure that I missed a few.

It's natural in a sense to have any platform experience a drought, the PS2 had one, the XBOX had one, the GCN is one, the PSP had one / is in one for the moment here (only thing I find interesting is GTA:LCS) the DS had one from its launch.

realitybites: it's your own preference as to whether you will get enjoyment out of a platform, personally I have gotten immense enjoyment from my GCN and I've had it since launch and a total of about 15 games. My XBOX is standing at 5 games over the last year and a bit, but I've hardly played it compared to my GCN.

You are asking if Twilight Princess is going to be better than God of War, Wow, Civ 4? Have you played TP? I seriously doubt you have, so how can you make a judgement on whether it will be better than those games? It was voted most anticipated because it's the Zelda game everyone's been looking forward, it's set to dethrone OoT as the best 3D Zelda (I say 3D since some people say LTTP is better than OoT, and it's sorta hard to compare for me, haven't gotten much playtime on LTTP). Now for it to dethrone OoT that would set it up as the best game out of the last two generations of consoles.

Also since when did anyone bring up anything about Post Counts, just because you or someone else has a large post count doesn't mean that they are any more of an enthusiast.

If you are no longer a Nintendo Supporter doesn't really mean much to us other than you don't like the company. The "Must be alot of closet GC owners" means that you aren't really in touch with this community, we don't hide that we play games. It doesn't matter what medium a game will be released on in reality, but whether the game is actually going to be good. Just because the PS2 or XBOX is more popular here doesn't mean that game X no one heard about is going to be hyped up because its on said platform.

I bought (or wanted to buy):

Resident Evil 4
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Animan Crossing
The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition
Timesplitters 3
he Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure
Donkey Konga
Ultimate Spiderman
HULK: Destruction etc
Viewtiful Joe 2
Killer 7
Paper Mario
Geist

in 2005, most of which were released in late 2004 or in 2005 (bold = 2005). That's more a game a month, more then i can usully afford anyway.

I'm not claiming it had anywhere near the number of games the PS2 got, but with the almost total EA, Ubisoft and Activision support ON TOP of all those games I just listed, there were hardly 'no games' on it for 2005. I'm guessing it got somewhere between 50 - 100 releases in 2005.

OOT and LTTP were dethroned by Wind Waker IMO. WW was genius if you know OOT, LoZ, LA and espescially LTTP well, it has so many links between the games, and was just filled to the brim with magic touches. I don't care that it was easy, the game world was brilliantly realised. I doubt I'll like TP as much as WW, but who knows?

No, the problem was you got your facts wrong. If you say "I hate every game on GC" that's fine, it's your opinion. But if you say "no games ever come out on GC" that's wrong, because it's not true.

I think you're trying to say that I got all uptight, but I didn't. It was a lighthearted poke at your comments, and I finished it with what I like to call the 'smart ass' emoticon so that you knew I was just playing.

Yes, we all have better things to do with our lives. However, I have better things to do while at work than actual work... like, you know, posting on forums.

I think you need to reread the post of mine that offended you so greatly. Nobody is saying that anyone is more or less of an enthusiast. I do admit to a possible bias towards Nintendo, but that doesn't mean I'll blindly fall in love with everything they put their name on. I only purchased my N64 last year (because I was never really impressed), and pretty much only for completeness sake. I've hardly touched it.

Bringing up a 2 month old ...

Reason for sports games not being as popular to gamers, they are the same game(play) every bloody year.

Fifa 2006, you could've at least use Pro Evo games as a reference instead of Fifa.

Indeed, FIFA's a joke. Pro Evo 5 was weaker than 4, however.

Sport games aren't the same exactly every year. Yes there are the same players, but reality is what we expect. To be honest I haven't played Pro Evolution since number 2, but I don't want to as FIFA is awesome by my reckoning. Ok they don't look as real when they run compared to Pro Evo, but the Dynasty mode is pretty good and the players features, especially on PC and XBox 360 I imagine.

If i wanna play some sports i get a few mates together and go and play...if I want to blast aliens and stuff I play video games! It's pretty simple really..

Same applies for me with driving games....that's why I don't bother with those 2 genres when I can do the real thing. It's also the reason I don't play dating or life simulation games.
