When people say that the X-Box is dead in Japan, they're not kidding. The PS2 and GCN/DS/GBA totally dominate all the game shops here. _________________

I don't say the spcs are not true - I just say that what IGN has reported has no back-up at this point, and should not be reported as news.
Why would IBM, ATI, MoSys and Nintendo have spent several years working on something (and in the case of ATi and MoSys, claim it's something "extra special"), and then deliver a double clocked Gamecube? ATI have not even finished the new GPU, here will at least be some fancy new features on the chips that weren't mentioned.
Anyway, to sum up - could be true, but no proof = not gospel yet.
| Quote: | | However, I don't think we're going to see too many, if any ports coming down from the PS3/360. In fact, I think you're likely to see developers porting UP - do you really think everyone is going to abandon the PS2 straight away, what with its 100 million install base? Just a bit of food for thought. |
Now that IS an interesting idea...
Good point about the gamer overreaction thing, too.

I would listen to a PALGN podcast. Please be aware of the time (which I think you are based on your summaries of other podcasts) though. So many podcasts are killed by dragging on far too long. I think 10-15 minutes would be just right for you guys _________________

Good article, Matt. I agree completely with the Nintendo DS being the Revolutions stepping stone into this new innovative side they've taken on.
The official specs of the Revolution won't ever be revealed, so I think what we're receiving from the developers all of a sudden may do the console justice. I can definitely live with a console that can produce better graphics than an Xbox, since there's a lot of titles currently on the market that truly look fantastic. And this gives developers a similar opportunity to develop games much like they're doing with the PSP. The dev kits are suppose to be very similar to the GameCube, which would mean that develops shouldn't have too much trouble porting similar titles from say the PS2 or Xbox, but enhanced with these 'Revolutionary' features.
Graphics have already proven to be a small aspect when buying a console (seeing as though the DS would more than likely outselling the PSP worldwide), so I don't see how Nintendo will have any trouble being profitable and matching it's competitors if the software if there and the price is equally well-matched.
I think the Revolution is more of an old-school gamers console. I have plenty of friends who haven't been interested in gaming since the SNES days, but now with the Revolution they've already planned to buy one. I think too many people are underestimating what Nintendo's console may bring to the market.
Good read though, and I agree that the Australian Gamer podcast is probably the only decent video-game podcast available.

Very interesting and enlightening read Matt.
I think you can (and did) compare the Revolution to the 360/PS3 as you would the DS to the PSP. It may not have the bells and whistles of the technically superior models, but the innovative approach to gameplay and promise of something different will be enough to appeal to a much broader audience than simply hardcore gamers. The DS has already demonstrated this by out selling the PSP worldwide. If Nintendo pulls this off with the Revolution, they are going to have a very large chunk of dedicated market share that Microsoft and Sony won't be able to touch.
It's all going to come down to how they decide to market the Rev. How are they going to appeal to future gamers that wouldn't even consider touching a controller before now? That's going to be one campaign I'll be very eager to see played out.
I didn't even know there were gaming podcasts around before now. I'll check them all out, except for maybe that 75 minute one, I don't think I'd walk away sane from that. And a Palgn podcast sounds like a good idea. _________________

Well said, Matt. Totally agree on the with section of the article speaking about Nintendo and the way the company functions.
As for other things, after checking out the most recent podcast over at the Australian Gamer site. Matt and Yugs have just started to put up their own Top 50 Games of All Time type article. At the moment, only the games rated fifty to forty-one are available for viewing. Still, it's a good read. _________________

Well I personally listen to the OCRemix podcast and enjoy it thoroughly, so I would definitely be up for one from you lot here at PALGN. Content shouldn't be too hard for it either, with a small section on releases for the week, another on the gaming specials and of course the latest (important) news of the week too. Other than that, you could possibly do small reviews on games or have a section on us regulars or something. I don't know what you could do actually, there is quite a few options.
Either way, do one. Now. _________________

I think the idea of a podcast is great. I've always liked discussion of current events. So I'd deffinitely be interested.
I think that some people did over-react to the Roger Ebert, on the other hand there were some well thought out responses. Suprised there were no mentions of Eternal Darkness, at least out of any of the responses I saw.
I agree those specs for the Revolution seem dubious, and yet fitting. I was hoping they would include High Def support, certainly their Tokyo Games Show presentation seemed to suggest this.
