There is a large vehicle variety and the game includes over thirty licensed cars for your purchase and upgrading pleasures.
and then you wrote
The car roster is small though, which could be a problem for some people but there are a lot of really good cars in the roster though which compensates for the small number.

I'm very tempted to pick this up. I'd love another racing game and this one seems to be just my sort of thing. Perhaps I should keep playing Forza though and save what little money I have at the moment...

Vehicle variety, as in not just Civics but all sorts of cars, roster = small though. So, a good amount of variety in the vehicles but still only a small amount.
This would be a good title to play if you haven't played a NFS title before, it's very impressive.

Now that I have finished the game, I can definitely say that it is worth the money. Definitely one of (if not) the best NFS titles around. Some minor qualms, such as limited customisation, drag racing and the small amount of those gorgeous FMVs don't detract too much from what is an awesome game. Now excuse me while I show the cops how to drive properly in my GTO.

don't have a link, but i haven't looked, i'm lazy like that 
the Black edition is only $3 more for PC over here, $83 for standard edition and (if you can't do basic sums  ) $86 for Black Edition.
but then, i've only looked in the one Harvey Norman store, i'm sure it's cheaper somewhere else.

regardless, for PC i don't know why you wouldn't get the black edition. unless you don't have a DVD-ROM.
(i didn't get the black ed, but then i didn't buy the game, it was a gift so i don't mind.)
i don't know if there's any price difference between PS2 normal and black ed.
