So, you were floating around the internet and found your way to PALGN, hey?
First of all, hello and welcome to PALGN. I hope you enjoy the site and continue on here as a worthy member. We are a fairly easy-going bunch here, but we do have some rules and guidelines which have sort of evolved as the site has evolved, making the forums as clutter-free and easy to navigate as possible.
1. Spam is not tolerated.
Spam refers to useless, unimportant posts. these are generally a line long, and don't contribute anything to the conversation. Granted there are a few topics that are designed for such spammy posts, but most are not. Please try and post something worthwhile. If you are writing to voice an opinion on a topic, explain your stance. Why do you like a game? Why haven't you bought an Xbox?
Spam also can include badly spelt posts and posts with excessive web-speak words. Typos are obviously ok, everyone makes mistakes, but please try to spell correctly, and use proper words; u is not a word, neither is r. abbreviations and acronyms are also quite acceptable (such as IMO, LOL, ROUS, WTF, ATM etc.) if you repeatedly misspell a word, expect to be corrected.
English Nazi Ninja Pirates patrol these waters
Spam also encompasses advertising your site here. Feel free to add a link to your signature, or post it if someone has asked for a site that bears some relevance to your site, but please, don't start an unprompted thread unless you wish for it to be deleted.
2. Don't bump old and dead topics...
...without a good reason. On this board, an old topic tends to be more than a month old. Please check the date of the last post before posting a new reply. that said, you are welcome to bump a post provided your post is valid, and still has some relevance to everyone else. if you have some new news on an upcoming game, your best bet would be to start a new topic, but always obey #1 when doing so.
3. Don't Double Post
Make sure you aren't already the last person to have posted on a topic, if you are, use the button, thats what it's there for. However, if you are adding something to a thread that has dropped quiet for a few days, bumping it by double posting is allowable to make sure everyone else sees the new additions to the thread.
4. Name your Source
If you post some news or a rumour, it's best if you post a link or reference to where you read it.
5. Spoilers
If you are posting about a game, and you are describing some element of the plot or anything that isn't otherwise mentioned in the instruction manual, and sometimes, even if it is, a spoiler warning would be nice... the best way to do this is to simply type SPOILER, leave 5 lines, write your piece leave another 5 lines and type END SPOILER. alternatively, you could make it so the user has to take some effort to view the spoiler by changing the colour of your text. the BEST way to do this is using the following tags:
| Code: |
<insert spoiler text here>
|
This will produce ">>>SPOILERS<<< wrote:" followed a white box, with white text, which anyone who doesn't mind being spoiled has to highlight the text within with their mouse to see. Like so:
| >>>SPOILERS<<< wrote: | | nifty, hey? |
6. No Go Zones
PALGN is one of the big-boys in the video-game online community scene, and the largest concerned with the PAL regions so naturally, the writers and staff here maintain a professional relationship with many game developers and distributers, so in order to maintain these relationships, we ask that you do NOT discuss piracy here. specifically how to pirate or where to get pirated games. Debates and so on are fine, but if you begin to post more than opinions, and get into specifics, then expect your post to be editted or even deleted. while we are aware that Piracy is a fact of the industry, we don't promote or endorse it here, and by-and-large, it is frowned upon.
Also, please respect that this is a family site, so please don't post anything pornographic or violent in nature. Basic rule of thumb, if you don't want your mother to see you looking at something, don't post it here either.
Both of these are bannable offenses, but you will receive a warning or two before anything so drastic is taken, unless you post something way too serious to let slide.
a new issue of late has been that regarding torrents of tv shows. while it's obvious that downloading movies is a form of piracy, it's perhaps lesser known that downloading unauthorised copies of TV shows is also a form of piracy, and therefore discussions on how to get the shows, or links to the files directly, or to the torrent file, is also frowned upon.
obviously authorised sources are fine, but make sure they are, in fact, authorised.
7. be polite
I think that #7 explains itself...
8. don't $poon beg
$poons are a form of currency on PALGN, therefore they belong to each user, it is against the rules to PM users and ask for their $poons.
and lastly:
9. Have Fun!
So that's the basic groundwork covered. If you still have questions then feel free to send a private message to a Staff, Mod or Admin, we are distinguished by a custom name-plate under our avatars on the top left of our posts, or ask in this thread.
If you are new, please post a reply to this thread, as a means of introducing yourself to the community.

Hi all,
I'm a new member of the forum, although I've been lurking a while, and also entering a few of the PALGN competitions. I'm a Melbourne boy, and one of the few Australian Gamecube owners - that being said, Nintendo does seem to be very well represented on this forum. Latest game purchase was Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (courtesy of Play-Asia, and a thoroughly excellent game), and I'm looking forward to Fire Emblem for the cube and Mario Kart for the DS.

Hey Syntax.
Surprisingly, you'll find plenty of Gamecube owners on the Australian sites, as most of the GCN Gamers are Hardcore Gamers or fanboys who normally spend a fair bit of time on the internet. Like me. Bleh.
Anyway, welcome to Palgun. _________________

"Very well represented"... I like that way of putting it.
Welcome, Syntax. Great name, too. _________________

Thanks for the welcome guys. Obsolete, I haven't been completely brainwashed by Nintendo - X360 is looking very tempting, especially if it syncs well with Windows MCE

It should, even with live video and interface- just like using the MCE on the xbox. _________________ [themak was here]

come on guys, play nice. he said in his other hello thread this is his first forum so lets at least help him become a better forum user rather than ridiculing him.
Kazuya:
hello and welcome. since your other post was hijacked by them crazy poms i'll say my hellos here. as other people have mentioned, your writing style is a little weird, most people here are tolerant of mis-spelling and acronyms but we prefer to use words and grammar. _________________

yeah, one of the few places who can.....almost spell.
They actually uphold it too! But grammar is still at 75%.
Some people just can't use your/you're, their/there/they're etc etc _________________

Most of us just can't be f**ked.Sorta how you could't be f**ked starting your first sentence with a capital letter and ending your last with a period.
I'm all for legible posts but i wont start manning the guns if someone doesn't dot there 'i's and cross there 't's. _________________
