Id have to imagine youd be more upset about a real-life issue(horses whipped, etc etc) rather then a joke.The actual sport..(?) of horse racing is far crueler than a joke that 'click here' is not going to go through with obviously.

Nil to none, but I don't care if it was a joke or not. Hell, my ignorance to it being a joke can become a joke if it has to, all I was saying is that I hate animal cruelty be it verbally or otherwise and I took offense to it. Stiff sh!t if you lot can't handle that.

If i hear fuckin Makybe Diva one more god damn time ill scream.Its just plain silly how much publicity this race and this horse has been getting.

News flash...

Its just a stupid horse.

And its just a stupid race.

Ive been hearing people say 'this is one of those things youll remember forever, everyone will always remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard Makybe Diva made it three in a row'

The audacity to compare this......a horse race, a race that entails sleazy gambling and animal cruelty, the audacity to compare it to the Kennedy assination, or the moon landing.

Does anyone else feel this way?Im bewildered at the passion of a 5min(..?) horse race.

You could say that about alot of things. A lot of sports things anyway...

It's all pretty primitive and ridiculous if you break it down to it's core, but the experience is what people will be remember.

Btw, I couldn't care less about the Melbourne Cup. It's just an excuse for rich people and their wives to dress like chickens and throw money out the window.

Jibbs, where to start.

It's a piece of sporting history, you mightn't like it, but it is.

By saying "Its just a stupid horse." you could just as narrowmindly say, "It was just some old guy who was shot".

Obvioulsy it is much more than a horse race, it is possibly the most well known Australian sporting event each year, and for a horse to make history in a race that is older than the united Australia, is something special, well to me anyway.

And you use the word sleazy with horse racing, yet forget to mention it about politics.

BTW, it seems like everyone had a win with Makybe, so many people I know collected small bets from its win. This will turn out to be one of those events where half of Victoria will claim to have been there today:P

Humourously enough i dont get the day off, im in rural victoria and we have our own "cup day" next week, so i had uni.
I won $100 on mackybe

Jibbs, it's apart of Australian culture, a race that stops the nation a yearly event that I've enjoyed since year one.

There is just so much hype and it's a real easy conversation starter as well.

living in melb myself i dont pay much attention to the melb cup but still i do enjoy having the day off.
it did not acure to me that it was only in melbourne it self that had the day off the rest of the state its just a nomal day.

The race was on in the background while I was on the computer yesterday afternoon (mum was watching it) and holy crap the hype they gave it was ridiculous. Then it won and it fricken continued on until their coverage stopped. I even heard the words 'immortal' and 'Makybe Diva' in the same bloody sentence. No horse can be immortal you morons.

Bah, this race still sucks.
