I typed my 3000th post while staying in Kings Cross, at an internet café.

A few hours later I came across a drug addict. What a wonderful day.

How does the AU school system compare to the UKs?

(Primary till 11 Secondary 11 - 16/18 from 14/15 start GCSEs for 2 years and then A levels for another 2.)

Age 5 : Preschool (4x 1/2 days, painting and running around in circles)
6-12 : Primary (yrs 1-7)
13-15 : Lower Secondary (yrs 8-10)
16-17 : Upper Secondary (yrs 11-12)
Tertiary Entrance Exams at the end of yr 12

i think some states changed the entrance age though, so subtract 1 year from the ages to show them... yes, our school systems vary from state to state, and it's pretty fvcked up atm... there has been promise of a nation wide standard for a few years now though... i'll believe it when i see it... I want to buy Perfect Dark for the N64, but I've heard that you need an expansion pack otherwise the game won't run. Is this true?

To gain the most out of what I think is the Best. Game. Ever., you definitely need the expansion pack. There are some things you can play without it, but if I recall correctly you can't play the campaign mode without it. Nor can you experience Co-Op or Counter - Op modes (well worth it). If only my NMS magazines weren't in storage, I would find the right issue and give you every single thing you can play with and without the expansion pack. Take it from me though, you will want the expansion pack...

yeah it's practically unplayable without the expansion pak (there's no "c", right?). i got it recently, and without the pack you can really only do:
*training.
i think there was something else, watch the intro movie i think, but i'm not sure. you can't play anything worth a damn anyway.

if you have a GameTraders near you, they sell 3rd party Expansion Paks for $15-20, so it shouldn't cost more than $50 all up to play. and if you're lucky like i was, you'll get a free control pad as well (part of a sale they had, buy an N64 game and get a free control pad).

EDIT: ok, i looked around and found this (apologies for the formatting, tables don't show properly):
Features Available.................................... Without ....With
Multiplayer Challenges.............................. Yes........Yes
1 Player (Solo Missions)............................ No..........Yes
1-2P Multiplayer (Combat Simulator).......... Yes........Yes
1-4P Multiplayer (Combat Simulator) ..........No..........Yes
1-2P Cooperative ......................................No.........Yes
2P Counter Operative ................................No..........Yes
Up To Eight Simulants................................Yes..........Yes
Approximate % Of Game Available To Player 35% ......100%

also, i gotta say the EU boxart is MUCH better than the AU art.

Wow, didn't even know there were two different box designs for the game. I thought it was the same. You're right though, it is better. Might have to buy another copy just to own that box...

^ Hey, when you love a game, you'd do anything! I know I would anyway...

Thanks for the info. I can't believe how much you'd miss out on without the expansion pak! No campaign??? Wtf. I was looking around eBay, and they really don't compare to the Gametraders prices. I never actually been to one around my area, but I know it exsists...

I'll have to hunt it down, and maybe they'll have the game with that cool Euro boxart. I can hope...

Sure that box is better but at the end of the day there is no point spending(wasting) money on a box, when you are buying a video game, seriuosly.

Yeah I hate the prerendered images they have for both the UK/US/AUS releases, they look nothing like Joanna. I prefer the more mysterious look to the Japanese box art.

I don't think you'll have to worry about those failing on you, for quite some time yet. I'm not sure about exact figures, but I'd expect at least 10 years. My original Playstation memory cards are still going strong.

Maybe I don't pay attention enough, but to be honest I don't think I have ever read/heard of Memory Cards crapping themselves on people. Due to age I mean, of course I have heard of others with technical faults and whatever, but none due to age. You won't have a problem dude, the things are very strong and last for ages.

Edit: Forgot about the swear filter...

Well comic collectors buy the same comic with different covers all the time.. maybe game publishers should release games with different box art .. and have us decide which one to buy .. either US, AUS, JAP or EU one.

without meaning to start the debate off again, since the new OFLC labels came i know given the choice, i wouldn't buy the Au covers again.

the only thing to me is whether i'd rather have the game now, or in a few weeks through importing.

^ haha....

Sounds good to me, I'll just have to think of my questions.

I guess one I have is, some of you may now I ordered the Muse double play two and a half weeks ago. And it took them 'til wednesday to tell me that it's on backorder. So now that has me thinking I'll be waiting another month for them to post after it gets to them.

So I was thinking should I cancel the order and pay the extra 2 or so dollars with Sanity? and would both companies have the same suplier(sp)?

I really want those cd's and this wait is starting to get a bit over the top in my eyes.

i think if sanity are advertising it as "in stock", then i'd cancel and re-order.

otherwise you'll probably be waiting just as long from both stores.

Why do AU boxart have stickers of the OFLC ratings, for my NFS; Most Wanted game with the new rating thingo it was just a sticker (which I peeled off the reveal the American rating system)
Same with ym Half Life 2, only it had the old OFLC sticker on it.

^ printing costs money.

depending on the printing methods used, and where the printing is done, a company might save more money by mass-producing 1 box and buying stickers for the lesser selling regions (ie: Australia). else the company might find it cheaper to print location specific boxes if they have suitably located printers.

basically it comes down to saving money.
