PSP price drop confirmed for Australia

PSP News | $279.95. Price of platinum titles dropped.
Sony has announced via a press release today that the PSP will now be available for $279.95. They've also dropped the price for certain platinum titles, Tekken: Dark Resurrection. Killzone: Liberation, Loco Roco, Ridge Racer 2 and Moto GP are available for the recommended retail price of $29.95.

Sony also confirmed that the Go!Cam will be available on the 21st of June, 2007 for a recommended retail price of $79.95. Go!Cam offers a built in microphone to ensure continuous audio, the ability to
change the direction of the camera lens vertically by 180 degrees and Go!Edit, an editing software package which allows users to save and edit photos, video and audio clips.

''Go!Cam is an exciting product for PSP owners looking for something new, fun and creative,” said Patrick Lagana, Senior Product Manager for Sony Australia. “Go!Cam quickly converts your PSP in a mini camcorder, allowing you to shoot stills or video quality that’s perfectly suited for email, upload or video editing or even playback on your PlayStation 3. It demonstrates yet again the potential, versatility and fun nature of PSP.''

“The recent launch of PlayStation 3 has had a halo effect on the sales of PSP, the combined impact of today’s price reductions and imminent launch of the Go!Cam will further unleash PSP, making it a ‘must have’ portable system for all entertainment enthusiasts" concluded Lagana.

How the hell did this comment get completely passed over in all those posts? Come on, surely someone should have jumped in with some sort of defensive strike on Nintendo's part.

Well, it is an opinion about software. Not one most people would agree with, but you're allowed opinions.

And what is there to defend? The DS has won by a massive margin, is selling faster then any other system in history, and the PSP is fading fast. It's impossible for the PSP to 'win' any major market, but it can still 'live on' like the Gamecube did.

I was actually planning on getting a PSP tomorrow. K-mart's selling them for $269, and I just can't resist Portable Ops.

Gotta say about time for the price drop over here, but it's still too expensive.

I just got back from Japan, over there the base pack PSP sells for 19700 yen so about $200. In comparison a DS lite (if you can find one) sells for abouy $170. Also Sony Duo memory sticks were $65 for a sony 2gb and $59 for a sandisk 2gb. So picking up that lot over there saved me $180 compared to local prices. On top of that I only needed a power plug converter which only cost me $3.50. They had USB charge and transfer cables for about $12 too.

Downsides: I can't play local UMDs (boo hoo), and it's firmware 3.11, I should have bought Puzzle Quest when I saw it over there too.

Upsides: plays local games no problem, found a good movie converter and I have lots of memory card space, it's metalic blue and looks dead sexy. Just played through Gurumin which is a great zelda type game.

As long as it lives on I'll be happy. Im not a fan of handhelds but Ratchet, Daxter, GoW, FF:CC are looking too good to pass up.

And the better system isn't necessarily the one that sells more, just as with games. Example, Cooking Navi has probably sold 10 times more than Tekken: Dark Ressuriction, but that's not something to be happy about.

Tekken and RR for me thanks. It's a start, and if the integration with the PS3 gets off the ground down here, the PSP may get it's second wind.

Yeah I know its his opinion, but every single time someone voices their opinion on Wii vs PS3 or DS vs PSP it becomes a fanboy flame match, so I was honestly surprised that this comment went completely unnoticed.
