WipEout Pulse announced

PSP News | The WipEout series lives on.
WipEout Pure was one of the standout titles of the PSP launch, so we're pleased to reveal that Studio Liverpool are hard at work on WipEout Pulse, also for the PSP.

The game will include twenty-four fresh tracks, with new ships and weapons. Studio Liverpool has also confirmed that there'll be original licensed music, including songs by Loco Dice, Stanton Warriors and Mason. In addition to these tasty morsels, we'll be getting eight new in-game racing teams thrown into the mix.

You'll be able to race online or with your friends locally via ad hoc, though the online fun doesn't stop there either - Sony says it will be bringing out downloadable content including ships, tracks and music. The game will also include seven modes, including a training option.

I love the CRAP out of futuristic racing games, so I would be all over this if I had a PSP. WipEout Pure was enjoyable, if slow compared to a marathon of F-Zero GX, and as it's made by the same devs I can expect to enjoy this too. WipEout Pure also had some of the best initial downloadable content, so I expect no less from Studio Liverpool.

I have purchased 3 Wipeout games in my gaming career and just never been able to get into them. I don't know what it is.

WipEout games in particular, or just futuristic racers in general? I don't necessarily love the crap out of the WipEout series only (it doesn't offer much more than other futuristic racers)... more the whole genre of futuristic racing in the first place. If you can't get into futuristic racers in general, then you're not alone. I don't know exactly what causes people not to like futuristic racers and I don't really care... the point is that the majority of people don't get into them, so don't go wondering why 'you're the only one' that can't get into it.

Wipeout games are notorious for having a steep initial learning curve - They demand you to learn the tracks and just how to handle your craft, and are fairly unforgiving of errors. It can seem like an exercise in frustration the first few times you pick it up, but it also offers some really rewarding gameplay if you stick with it.
At least, that's my take...

Good news though, Wipeout Pure was (still is) a fantastically top-notch PSP game and I expect nothing less of Pulse. If they can keep the same standard of presentation, and match the amount of DLC, then this will be a must-buy.

Quick question - did any music downloads ever come out for Pure? I remember checking for them for a while and then giving up on the idea.

Hrmm, I think racers in general, and I find Wipeout to be quiet boring. I love Burnout though. icon_biggrin.gif

Yes, 3 infact.

Another PSP Wipeout? Where's the PS3 loving already? Although didn't they confirm a PS3 Wipeout was on the way? At any rate, Wipeout Pure was one of the best of the launch titles, with ad-hoc, and more content; Pulse should be worth looking into.

I think there's definitely people out there who don't like futuristic racers. They probably prefer more realistic racing games, whilst I'm the opposite.

Wipeout is a lot slower than a game like F-Zero GX, but that's why I've always preferred it. It's more about navigating the turns than flat-out speed. It feels like a rally game, whereas F-Zero is more like a Formula 1 game.

Just depends which you prefer.

Exactly, the fact that Wipeout is slower is why I prefer F-Zero. I am not a fan of rally games and am more of a fan of the "arcade" feel.

I would love to someday own my own Inital D arcade machine.

Yea imagine Wipeout on the PS3 with Motorstorm type graphics and physics!!

I remember Wipeout on the Ps1 was the first time I noticed physics in a game....it was also the first time I was blown away by a game and it's nextgeness.

Baby, baby.. BAAABY!!!

Im about as big a fan of WipEout as it gets, so this is rainbow news candy to my ears! Studio Livepool absolutely outdid themselves with Pure and I cant wait to see where they take the series next. WipEout Pure was the reason I got the PSP in the first place. In my opinion, just for that one game alone it was worth it.

In answer to your question Karai, aswell as the Music Packs you can download from the official site; there was another sub official site called Urban Grooves or something to that extent that hosted downloadable Music Packs for WipEout Pure from amateur compilations made all over the world. If you logged into the site under; say.. the UK you would have one bundle of tunes to DL, and then the US had another..

Im sure someone at www.wipeoutzone.com will know. Hit them up for info.

Yes; WipEout titles offer a very steep learning curve which puts alot of people off the title. In the end, the tracks and how to tackle them kind of map themselves into your mind and you find yourself doing some incredible navigation at ridiculous odds with physics... and feeling damn good about it.

As far as PS3 goes.. the WipEout series is practically screaming for SIX-AXIS support. Remember how great it was playing WipEout with a Neg-Con controller?

I am feeling really warm 'n fuzzy that the PSP will have another WipEout title on it.
