GTA: Vice City Stories on its way to PS2?

PSP Rumour | Phil Collins could be coming to Sony's larger machine.
Ever since Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories made its way to the PlayStation 2 last year, speculation has been rife that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories would eventually make its way to the console.

Recently, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) have listed a PlayStation 2 version of Vice City Stories, but when queried on the matter, Rockstar politely explained to Eurogamer that it doesn’t comment on “rumour and speculation”.

Vice City Stories was one of the biggest PSP games of 2006, so opening the game up to 100 million potential customers seems like a sensible decision. We’ll report back if Rockstar confirm the title is on its way.

After porting LCS doing this would be a no-brainer, really.

Edit: porting, not posting...

No. PSP needs exclusives. While DS has already had Trauma Center ported over to Wii, the majority of its games are exclusive. Sony needs to give people a software reason to buy PSP, not a movie/music/internet reason. If Loco Roco makes a similar move, I'll flip.

Why feed what is seen as a dying console? There is no point for Sony to do that, and for revenues sake, it's a silly decision by Sony if they keep such titles away from the PS2. And you'll notice that most announcements made for the PSP are also going to the PS2. Besides, if developers continue this 'one-year' exclusive rights for the PSP, that's still going to draw customers to the PSP.

The PS2 is the highest selling console on the market at the moment, and developers are realising the potential of releasing titles on the PS2. It has a massive install base, it is the cheapest console on the market and recent hardware sales have already shown that people are still willing to buy software and the PS2 itself despite there being Wiis, 360s and PS3s on the market.

I think it's great that Sony are urging developers to 'not' cut PS2 support, because, realistically, they know it won't die for another couple of years. Everyone's going to go out and buy games such as God of War, Burnout and obviously this.

This is exactly why Sony are the home console kings - their consoles sell well past their intended cutoff; the PS1 did the exact same thing. Unlike Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony don't just cut off support.

I have no problem with PS2 getting titles. PS2's great - God of War 2, Final Fantasy 12, etc, there's still a lot to look forward to.

I guess I just haven't lost hope with the PSP - while it doesn't match the DS in sales, it hasn't been an abysmal failure. There are still plenty of titles on the way for PSP, that are in no way life-support for a dying console (although UMD video is dead, I'll grant you that). I don't want support cut for PSP, a relatively young console with a lot more to give.

This is a bit OT, but I when I was in the shops the other day I was shocked by the number of decent PSP titles there are now. While there's only a few standout titles, there's a lot of pretty decent PS2 ports coming along.

Check out this list of upcoming titles and tell me there's isn't at least 5 you want to try;

That's a release list any console would be proud of.

do you guys think it was dumb of microsoft to completely cut off support for the original xbox like they have? why not keep selling it for a couple of years at a reduced price? brings new people to gaming who arent willing to shell out the big cash for the new consoles quite yet. thats how i got back into games a few years ago after a big break, i grabbed a really cheap ps2. now i have ps2, 360 and psp and love gaming more than i ever have!

the poor old xbox has been left out in the cold. add the fact that the backwards compatibility of the 360 is less than ideal and its a curious decision in my opinion. just check out ebay, people selling original xboxs for huge amounts of cash. i was at the weekly market in bendigo last week (dont ask, i got dragged along) and there was a guy with a games stall selling new xboxs for $400. opportunistic a-hole. they were $180 before microsoft pulled the rug out from underneath it werent they?

Well looking at that list I'd like EA replay and Sega Mega Drive Collection but the other titles I like I'd prefer on a different platform.

I am picking up a cheap PS2 as well and I think it is a real shame that the XBox xupport from MS has dropped off since the 360 has been out. At least it wasn't as bad as the end of the N64's life cycle.

I would prefer that this title came out for the PS2. There are a few PSP games that I am interested in but I would prefer not to shell out the money just for thoose few games. With it confirmed that thier won't be a PSP2 it seems likely that Sony would drop some support.

Because the cost of components inside it were much higher than the price Microsoft were RRPing. I'm sure soon the Xbox 360 will be cheaper to make than the original Xbox was, Microsoft didn't plan the original out very well and were majorly shafted by the companies they were buying the components from.

Personally I like that they're dumping legacy equipment (apart from the BC on the 360), if only they had done it with their PC OS too.

I really hope this comes true. Portable Ops and VCS are the only games I want for the PSP. PO will never be ported, but if VCS is I'll be able to hold out on buying a PSP until they're obsolete and dirt cheap.

thanks nickak, i had no idea that microsoft had those problems with the original console. im still gonna buy one though. i have my 360 hooked up to an lcd monitor and most of the backwards compatible games dont support the cable link. would be cool to have an old black xbox under the telly that i can play those titles on without having to unplug everything constantly.

Are you bad at maths? I counted 1, which I have for the PC already (although granted I want the extras of Every Extend Extra); for free. icon_lol.gif

I don't think they should port games to the PS2, it's not really helping the PSP sell. But the lack of games isn't really doing the PSP any favours, there's about 5 games I'm interested in (already have Lumines 1+2, & Wipeout Pure, the other 5 consists of; Every Extend Extra, Ultimate Ghost & Ghoblins, Exit, Loco Roco, and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Double Upper/MAX - although I'd rather a PS2 port). That's a woeful amount by any standards, but maybe I'm just too picky/expecting too much.

Lol in the article you said that it was comming from the PS2 to the PS2. A minor detail but I had to point it out anyway.
