Infact, PSP sales have actually been enjoying a decent rise in the good ol' US of A recently. The top five retailers in the country have reported a 280 per cent week-by-week rise in PSP sales over the Thanksgiving period, whilst the PlayStation 2 (remember that? Sleek black console, expansive library, sold a few units here and there) has seen a week-by-week rise of 115 per cent over the same period. The games are doing fairly well, also - PS2 first-party software sales increased by 120.6 per cent, with PSP titles rising by 168 per cent.
Alas, this good news is partly tempered by the fact that the scarcity of the PlayStation 3 has played a role in these numbers. As many of you will know, Sony has had considerable trouble getting its new console from the conveyor belt and on to shop shelves, but SCEA communications bod David Karraker isn't too worried.
"More are already on their way for this week," he said of the PS3, adding that, "Feedback from our retail partners is that demand is still incredibly high and that PS3s put on store shelves were quickly snapped up by holiday shoppers. We'll continue to utilise airfreight delivery for the PlayStation 3 to assure a steady stream of systems for North American consumers through the end of the year."
Which is good of them.
