Sonic Rivals screenshots dash forward

PSP News | Another new environment revealed.

Sonic Rivals is only a few weeks away from release and Sega have taken the opportunity to send us through some of the latest images of the game; which appears to be shaping up rather well indeed. Sonic Rivals is a 2D racing game with a 3D background. The objective is to race through the levels as fast as possible against another opponent.

The new images confirm that Knuckles will be a playable character, as well as Sonic and Silver. A multiplayer mode will also be in the game which should provide some entertaining multiplayer battles. All in all it seems like Sonic Rivals places a huge emphasis on speed, which is what made the original Sonic games so much fun. Look out for a review of Sonic Rivals on PALGN shortly.

Looking pretty sweet. Still, as with the 360/PS3 Sonic, I'm going to have to stick with my "cautiously optimistic" disclaimer for the time being.

At any rate, given that the game is basically designed for multiplayer, hopefully it runs smooth. I was playing Sonic Rush with my brother last week, and it was chugging along at half-speed practically the entire time.
