Ace Combat flies onto the PSP

PSP News | Dog-fighting on the go.
After initial plans of the latest version of Namco's acclaimed flight sim, Ace Combat, were made known, Eurogamer has flown in with the news that the list of PS2 titles will not be growing. Instead, the latest version, Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception, will be heading towards the PSP.

Famitsu magazine were the original culprits to reveal this to the world, along with the information that the game will have an extensive single player campaign and ad-hoc multiplayer mode. In the single player game, you play through an original story, as a pilot in the Gryphus Squadron of the Federal Republic of Aurelia. We currently know of four planes that will be in the game - the F-14D Super Tomcat, Tornado F3, F2-A and MIG-31 Foxhound - but more will undoubtably follow soon. Each can be customised to your hearts content or specifically for a mission. The multiplayer mode will support up to four players in both dog-fighting and co-op modes, but not over the net.

The game is scheduled for an Autumn release in Japan and hopefully a release to the rest of the world be announced in due course. More as it happens, here at PALGN.

I've always wanted to try Ace Combat, but number 5 is still like 100 bucks. Anyone familiar with the series? How does it stack up? Is it similar in any way to 1998's F22-Raptor?
