LocoRoco rolls onto a Euro release

PSP News | Everybody tilt your PSPs in anticipation.
Last year's Tokyo Game Show shed light on a little game called LocoRoco, a title which could liven up a decidedly weak line-up of games for Sony's not-so-little-handheld with it's quirky new gameplay format and bright and beautifully-realised 2D art style. And now, SCEE has confirmed that LocoRoco will be seeing a European release, tentatively set for "Summer 2006".

LocoRoco sees players guiding a smiling, jelly-like blob around levels using the shoulder buttons to tilt the game world, all the while avoiding hazards such as splinters and enemies. By absorbing flowers scattered around the environment, your ball-o-jello grows in size, culminating in a greater final score, yet will require more momentum to get your ball rolling, leaving you open to the risk of missing important pickups that are scattered all over the levels of the game.

Games such as this that involve any kind of funky and unusual creativity usually stay within Japan, due to their bizarre premises and shifts of focus away from most mainstream games. But thanks to the success of games such as We Love Katamari, this evil trend has been bucked.

So, this is one PSP game to keep your eyes on. Be sure to stay tuned for more jelly-based fun.
