What can only be described as a puzzle/platformer (but “action” is more reader friendly) the underlying concept of the title is to get an orange blob from point A to point B. When you’re a ball of goo with no arms and legs – it can be a little difficult to move, let alone navigate through an environment full of enemies and traps. So, to do this, the L and R shoulder buttons tilt the playing area up to 45 degrees, left or right, causing it to roll around the level. The blob also has some other nifty functions including jumping, being able to break down into a bunch of smaller blobs (and reform) and being able to eat anything and everything in it’s path, increasing it’s size.
So when your blob has eaten various floral plantations and enemies, you may find it a little difficult to move the orange mass – that’s when breaking down into smaller blobs will come in handy. On the downside, your size determines your health – a large blob has more health than when it’s in pieces. Whenever you are hit, a part of your body will fly off, you can tilt and recover it, but nevertheless it is still an important to remain vigilant of your size as it is an imperative part of the game.
Loco Roco is due out in 2006 with no set release date for anywhere. Now if you are salivating over the refreshing game play concept, these screenshots will have swimming in your own drool. Enjoy – and maybe grab a towel.
