Talkman coming to Europe and Australia

PSP News | When is a game not a game?
Sony have announced that Talkman will be released for the PSP in Europe and Australia in May, 2006. Talkman comes with a USB add-on microphone and is a very bizarre concept.

Talkman comes with six languages, if you wish to translate another language you can simply talk into the microphone and the software will interpret your speech. There are more than 3000 crucial phrases, which should also make it easy to learn another language. The six languages include French, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese.

The game has a mascot named Max, who also presents two games modes ideal for perfecting your accent and improving your understanding. The Pronunciation Game sees Max challenge you to imitate the pronunciation of essential phrases, whilst the Listening Game challenges you to listen to the phrase and then identify the right translation.

We'll have more information on Talkman as soon as it becomes available. Sony are quickly becoming the masters of bizarre gadgets, and this one seems like yet another winner for the company.

If i had a PSP, i would so get this game. I learned Japanese in years 7-10 (not that much really, even if it was 3 years. Am now finished school, got HSC last year). Visited Japan at the end of year 10 for a month, on student exchange, stayed with a host family etc. etc. But now i have forgotten almost everything i had previously learnt (having not spoken, or even read it for about 2 years). This would be well worth your $75 (any mention of game like it on DS?), i start to wonder why it hasn't been released earlier? Think about it, if you travel alot this game will still be useful, a long time after initial purchase. Ingenious.

This thing is a hilarious concept, I've seen video clips of the Japanese version. icon_lol.gif

However, I'm fairly sure its emphasis is on stock phrases for travel purposes, which is why - despite my love of Japanese - I would not get this game even if I had a PSP. icon_kero.gif

If you've seen a Japanese travel book, you'd get this: "My panties have been stolen." icon_lol.gif Perhaps this is the killer-app for the PSP?
