Most of the preorders for the handheld were filled, so getting ahold of a PSP may not be as easy as you might think in a week's time.
In terms of titles, not all of them were available from 9:01am which left some consumers unhappy. Tony Hawk's Underground 2, Untold Legends, Spiderman 2 & Midnight Club III all arrived in stores later on launch day, so they are now available.
However, some titles just didn't arrive at all; Namco Museum Collection still isn't out, World Tour Soccer appears to be indefinitely delayed, and two other titles suffered huge delays: Colin McRae Rally 2005 has been delayed until the 23rd of September, and Mercury has been delayed until the 21st of September. Disappointing news really.
Ultimately though, gamers still had over twenty launch titles to choose from, including Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racer, Virtua Tennis, Everybody's Golf and more. PALGN also assumed that due to the delays there would no longer be an issue with dead pixels, but unfortunately that's not the case. We've heard reports of dead pixels and we've started a survey to gage how common it is; do your part and fill it in here.
Overall, though, it appears the PSP has been an overwhelming success, with initial reports suggesting that both the European and Australian launches have been wildly successful - which is good news, although we're currently unsure as to whether the sales have been as high as the Nintendo DS's were.
We also took an opportunity to test the UMD locking of the PSP, and we're pleased to report that none of the UMD's we had were unable to play on our United States PSP, This may just be the initial titles but it is promising news at the least.
Meanwhile, PALGN is covering the PSP fiercely all this week and next. We've still got upcoming reviews of Midnight Club III, Tony Hawk's Underground 2, Untold Legends, Need for Speed Underground, Darkstalers & V8 Supercar Race driver 2 to come. You can follow all our PSP coverage at the PSP Hub.
