'There has never been anything on a handheld like this'

PSP News | Rockstar talk up PSP Grand Theft Auto.
It appears Rockstar has been proudly informing the World that the PSP's Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is set to shake handheld gaming up somewhat, with the developer describing the game as something handheld gamers will never have encountered before on a portable console.

'We never looked at it like it was a portable game,' said a senior Rockstar representative to the US Official PlayStation 2 Magazine, before proclaiming (and let noone accuse Rockstar of lacking confidence), 'I would really be surprised if there were more expansive handheld games ever made, but content-wise, I can be very confident in saying there has never been anything on a handheld like this.'

The interview covered other areas as well, with issue of battery life also brought up. The Rockstar rep refused to specify precisely how long the battery would last during play. We were assured that the game was designed to be as economical as possible, with the interviewee saying, 'The process of laying the data and code paths out to facilitate elegant streaming automatically ensures we are as battery-friendly as possible.' Jolly good.

GTA: Liberty City Stories is still slated for a September release, and it can't be long now before we get our first screenshots. We'll keep you informed.

Somebody's lying.....

You think they could write a press release that doesn't contradict itself.

There has also been nothing on a handheld like Nintendogs....wait there has never been anything like that anywhere.

Honostly, I don't see why playing this game on a handheld makes it better than playing it on a console. I play about 75% of my DS at home, the reason I play? For something I can't get on a console.

I thought it was good considering that it was on the GBA. In my opinion, the only Grand Theft Auto games that deserve their praise are the 2D version, true games. The 3D games are hopeless in my opinion. While I had fun with San Andreas, it didn't live up to my expectations when compared to the 2D games. Maybe I'm a little too old school in my tastes.

Good point.

Funny that hey - the PSP has almost current generation console graphics but handheld (read older generation) controlls. I'd never thought of it like that.
