UMD film sales higher than 100,000

PSP News | Despite reports to the contrary, say Sony.
Sony has taken the step of correcting reports from earlier this week, including one on this site, that suggested the sales of films distributed on the UMD format had breached 100,000 in total. Infact, said Sony, two individual titles had broken the 100,000 mark on their own - Resident Evil Apocalypse and House of Flying Daggers.

Speaking to industry website GamesIndustry.biz, a representative acting on behalf of Sony explained that comments made by the company regarding sales of UMD films had been misconstrued, and that the message that was supposed to have come across was that some individual titles had topped 100,000 sales, rather than the entire range.

Once again, it's also worth mentioning that a million copies of Spider-Man 2 on UMD have been shifted, thanks to the film being bundled with launch PSPs in the US. And when PSP does arrive on PAL shores on September 1st, it should be accompanied by upto 25 movies on UMD.

I was at my local EB recently and the guys there had a working PSP for display there. They were running the Charlies Angels UMD on it and it looked pretty amazing. But seriously, while impressive, watching a movie on a tiny screen with tinny sound isn't much of a selling point for me. I just can't understand why these things are so popular (if 100,000 is popular). If anybody out there is planning of getting a PSP, or has one already, I like to hear your take on these UMD movies. Why? Why? Why?

^ exactly my opinion...

Interestingly enough, my local EB has dedicated more space to the unreleased PSP and placeholder game boxes than the DS, which was actually inaccessible because there was a table of 'sale' merchandise blocking the way to the DS shelf.

ROFL thats quite funny... yet sad too...

i haven't seen any PSP stuff at the EB i goto... not yet anyway... i guess it's been 3 days since i went icon_rolleyes.gif

the DS area is very accessible at "my" EB... probably because it's right at the front, and the counter bottle-necks the rest of the store during sales times...

Wow. It would be interesting to see how the PSP fares in Australia or PAL regions as a whole. Your EB certainly thinks it'll do pretty well. I'm still not sold.

icon_lol.gif No, I mean you're not cool if you don't have a PSP plus all the games and all the movies that come out for it plus the magic penis enlarger and the fully sick Commadore badge to stick on it! icon_wink.gif
