Valkyria Chronicles 2 heading to PSP

PSP News | No love for the Playstation 3.
Earlier this month esteemed Japanese video game publication ‘Famitsu’ revealed Valkyria Chronicles 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed strategy RPG Valkyria Chronicles.

While the original was exclusive to the Playstation 3, Valkyria Chronicles 2 on the other hand will find it's home on the Playstation Portable in 2009.

Valkria Chronicles 2 will take place two years after the events of the original game. The sequel will retain the same battle system and will include new customization options. The most interesting new feature however is the social/dating simulator aspect that will help move the story and potentially make character development more interesting. This certainly reminds us of the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series, which combined traditional RPG style of gameplay with social simulator style of story telling.

For those of you who missed out on the original, Valkyria Chronicles stands as one of the crown jewels of the Playstation 3 and arguably the best Japanese RPG you can currently find on the console. Playstation 3 owners who have yet to play this unique gem of a game should check out our full review here.

No word on a PAL release yet and the 2009 release is for Japan only. In the meantime, you can check out the official Japanese website of Valkyria Chronicles 2 here for some images.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit disappointed by the fact that this game isn't coming to the PS3.

Who knows though, it actually might turn out to be better on the PSP. It was a very nice game for the PS3.

I think thats a really big mistake if it isnt coming to the ps3.

Look at the piracy circling the psp. I dont know anyone that has bought a psp game.

Hopfully they will release it on the ps3 aswell as the psp. I for one will be buying a psp again for this game and only this game if it doesnt come to the ps3.

^Same thing can be said about the NDS though.

Odd that everyone I know that has a PSP didn't pirate though, just NDS owners... Could be warranty issues. Valkyria Chronicles 2 portable might acutally be good especially for people who travels a lot. (Me hopes it can be purchased through the PSN store)

If this is what it takes to strengthen a game fanbase, im all for it. As long as it returns to console grandeur if it reaches the popularity then ill be happy.

I honestly don't have a problem with it coming to the PSP. Sure, it could potentially be a better game on the PS3 (we don't know yet), but it's not like the original sold crazy well, so I doubt potentially low PSP game sales factored into their decision. I'm just happy to be a PSP owner at the moment, so many quality titles coming for it.

Yeah, I agree. I haven't played much of the original yet (I really should get back into it, what I played was awesome), but the missions seemed short, and the storybook approach to watching short cutscenes seems perfect for a portable game.

I'm stoked either way since I have a PSP and a PS3. Good times ahead!

Not really. As you play through, the cut scenes get longer and the latter missions can take upwards of 2hours.

Ah well. At least you can save anywhere, which you'll hopefully be able to do in VC2. (why don't more games have that feature?)

The Valkyria anime is really great. I hope the franchise makes it big.
