E3 2009: Gran Turismo PSP shown at E3

PSP News | More driving antics for motorsport fans.
Kazunouri Yamaouchi, President of Polyphony Digital, walked up on stage at Sony's E3 conference and showed off the developer's much-discussed Gran Turismo title for the PSP.

Simply titled Gran Turismo at the moment, the game will run at 60 frames per second and feature 800 cars to drive, 35 tracks and 60 variations of those tracks. Solo players can look forward to the usual races, time challenges, drift challenges and a licensing mode, and there's also ad-hoc support so you can play competitively with friends. Additionally, you will be able to trade cars with other players, which is certainly easier than collecting all 800 cars by yourself.

To end the demonstration, it was revealed the game will be released on October 1st - which is, coincidentally, the same date that the PSP Go is released.

Watch this space for the first pieces of media.

Insert token "and 600 of those will be Skylines" joke here.

The thing that gets to me, as a PSP owner, is that they keep releasing games like this that require full concentration- FPS, driving, etc. Which seems the opposite of what the DS has (which I play far more of, because of this)- games that you can pay attention to for 10 seconds, do something else, look down and continue... you know, games that actually suit the portable nature of the device. Something you can play on the bus/train without worrying that you're going to miss your stop because you're too focused, etc.
