Rock Band gets unplugged for PSP

PSP News | Time to rock it out in the streets... again.
EA Games and Harmonix have announced today they will be bringing Rock Band Unplugged to the PSP in June this year.

According to Harmonix, Unplugged will combine gameplay elements from both Rock Band and Rock Band 2, with overdrive and chords being mentioned as prime examples. There won't be any functionality for plastic peripherals, as players will be able to take "direct control" over the lead/bass guitars, drums and vocals using the standard PSP controls. The game will also feature the gameplay modes World Tour, Band Survival and Warm Up, as well as character customisation options.

Another staple Rock Band element that will be featured is downloadable music. By logging on to the PlayStation Network, players can access the in-game store and purchase new tracks, similar to the current home console experience. On that note, the game will ship with 40 master-recordings, nine of which will make an exclusive debut on the PSP before being available to downloaded on other consoles later in the year. The exclusive tracks include:
  • 3 Doors Down - "Kryptonite"
  • AFI - "Miss Murder"
  • Alice in Chains - "Would?"
  • Audioslave - "Gasoline"
  • Black Tide - "Show Me the Way"
  • Blink 182 - "What's My Age Again"
  • Freezepop - "Less Talk More Rokk"
  • Jackson 5 - "ABC"
  • Tenacious D - "Rock Your Socks"

As much as it sounds silly to applaud someone for creating a music game that DOESN'T use a plastic add-on ... well done Harmonix! Might just prove to Activision that Guitar Hero can indeed live again on DSi...
