Ready at Dawn done with PSP

PSP News | Another developer bails on the handheld.
The developer responsible for such PSP success stories as Daxter and God of War: Chains of Olympus has said on their blog that they have officially finished working for the PSP.

"With Chains of Olympus going gold in Japan, we're now officially done with PSP development. Today we sent all our devkits back and seeing all these boxes ready to be picked up definitely marks the end of an era here at Ready at Dawn," said Ready at Dawn on their blog.

It certainly is a shame for the Sony handheld, considering the high-quality software that had been made by the popular developer. Ready at Dawn did mention in their blog to stay tuned, however, as they excitedly stated: "Can't wait to show you guys what we have in store..."

I wonder if Sony has held onto them and bumped them onto a new PS3 project. They sure did make some great PSP games to prove themselves.

ugh the boot done with Ready at Dawn

Nah, just kidding. I think them packing up all the psp dev kits is a bit pretentious! I mean they were nothing before they made a couple of hits on Psp, so why abandon it altogether? Do some developing on other platforms and come back to the psp or something, why abandon, why?

I'm hoping they move onto Ps3 development, they have a LOT of talent.

Sadly I think this is indicative of the console's future in general, if it actually has one.

I mean, after Crisis Core there doesn't seem to be much, if anything, to look forward to... (please tell me I'm wrong!)

Such a shame as they did make 2 of the best original titles on PSP (even if they were offshoots of existing games)..

I thought Ready at Dawn was a sister company to Naughty Dog or something like that, so its wierd if Sony has their fingers in their pie that they'd let them stop working on PSP. I must've been wrong..

I actually think that all the handhelds are actually lacking in titles at the moment. The DS, aside from train your brain, train your sight, train your armpits, etc doesnt have anything other than more mildly entertaining titles like the Wii does..

Kinda upsets me cause I have these 2 handhelds and end up playing old games on the DS and using the PSP as a remote player for the PS3!

"Bailing" doesn't seem like the right description to me. When I read their blog I inferred (by reading between the lines) that they likely had a deal with Sony to develop two PSP games. Now that the work is done they have to send the dev kits back to Sony.

Having said that, it definitely feels like the PSP is nearing the end of it's life...

Let's not go killing off the PSP just yet. Sure, it's certainly not doing as well as the DS, but it still has a decent amount of momentum. Sony, at least, will most likely continue to support it.
