Re: FFX PAL Conversion (1 decade ago)
I'm still dissapointed that we don't get the epilogue, but at least we get something for the wait...
btw, due to lack of response (and more work landing on my desk), I've given up on trying to do this calculation.

Re: Who has bought an Xbox? (1 decade ago)
Personally I'm here because I want to see the opinions of people that already have the box, so I can better judge when it's time for me to buy. I've piped up my thoughts on this thread, but I promise I won't be interrupting your reading on other threads with blatant PS2 fanboyism

Whats my point? Well nothing really. Its just that I wonder how many guys that say 'wait for the good games and price drop' bought a PS2 at launch.
The price difference is more like £70 in the UK, which is a fair amount more out of your pocket than AU$70...

I just think its sad the XBOX has alot of detractors right now. Especially ones that claim to love video games. Cause it deserves more
Re: Who has bought an Xbox? (1 decade ago)
I'm with midnight burn. I'll get one when there are more games that I would actually play (I think the only one at the moment is JSRF, 'cause I'm not into FPS), and the price comes down. I'll prolly end up getting one around Christmas time.
Morrowind looks good (I doubt my PC'll be up to the PC version), Project Ego looks promising too... But other than those two, where are the RPGs?

I've heard that the loading times almost disappear on this one if you install to the HDD.

I'd have to go with blue. I'd also have to go with peanut, rather than chocolate.

Re: Any difference in PAL regions? (1 decade ago)
Well my responses to posting the same question over at IGN have all been good, so I'm gonna give it a go...
Of course it's all dependant on whether I get to keep my job when 450 redundancies are announced here in 2 weeks time

Any difference in PAL regions? (1 decade ago)
I'm off to visit my in-laws in Sydney later in the year... Are Aussie PAL games compatible with a Euro PAL PS2?
If so, I may just have to do a bit of a duty-free shopping spree
(btw, I know that bonus DVDs will be region 4 - that doesn't bother me, it's the game discs that I need to know about)

Any good GBA Importers? (1 decade ago)
Anyone know any good GBA game importers in the UK?
CEX seem to have stopped importing all Nintendo platforms, after getting a warning from Nintendo, so I need to find a new source, 'cause I've just gotta have Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis...

Re: Graphics or Game play? (1 decade ago)
Looks like I'm with the majority here... Definitely gameplay first.
Although I do get frustrated when I'm not allowed to see the graphics as the artist intended (i.e. big black borders which ruin the aspect ratio). Definitely doesn't stop me playing the game though

Finally some news on FF:A from a semi-official source (1 decade ago)
Woohoo, Sony have confirmed the release of Final Fantasy Anthology: European Edition.
We get the PSX versions of FFIV and FFV, as previously reported. Date is still May (no confirmation of the 19th, as has been reported elsewhere...)
I'd be very surprised if we get anything but the 16x9 squishorama version of the game (a-la FFVI), but just as long as we actually get the games I don't mind (it's not as if the graphics are stunning by today's standards anyway)
I suppose it's too much to ask that Square actually post this info on their website until a couple of days after release

Re: FFX PAL Conversion (1 decade ago)
Actually, we only get the FFX International version of the game itself - which has the new Sphere grid, Dark Aeons (more powerful versions of some of the monsters), and I believe there is also a powerful boss you get to fight if you defeat all the Dark Aeons.
The ending is the same in the international version. What was different was that the Japanese release contained an Epilogue to the story, set 2 years later I think. Square don't mention this on their European site as being included in the PAL release, and it's not likely because they would have to get it translated and re-dubbed by the US voice actors before they could release it here (the game had English voices in the Japanese FFX:I release, but the Epilogue was in Japanese only).
As the main bulk of the game is identical, the fact that we are getting FFX:I rather than the US version should have no impact on the translation time - they could have started as soon as it was released originally.

FFX PAL Conversion (1 decade ago)
OK, we all know that FFX is taking forever to get here, and that the delays are being blamed on the translation time.
We have also all heard the rumours that Square don't bother doing a fully PAL optimization because localising games for PAL is expensive, and has a smaller market.
I'd like to suggest an experiment...
Working out how much the translation would cost should be fairly easy if we can find approximately how many words are in the game, as translators usually charge by the word.
Making an estimate of how many copies will sell based on the sales of previous FF games, and the number of PS2s in the wild in PAL regions should also be possible.
Combining these with an estimate of how much of the sale price of each copy actually works it's way back to Square should allow us to see whether their "low profit margin" argument stands up...
I've found a site that'll give online translation quotes, and I'm just about to look around to see if I can find any info on the approximate # of words in FFX. Anyone else interested in knowing what I manage to find out - or interested in helping me with this?

Start a flood? I didn't think we'd had anything but sexual captions so far

Re: XENOSAGA! (1 decade ago)
heh, that worst case is still a year before we get FFXI
Re: anyone played gradia2?? cos it out on ps2 (1 decade ago)
Since I posted before I've been trawling through messages at the Gamefaqs board for grandia II. Apparently the graphical slowdown glitches that were in the US release were removed by Enix for the JP release. Ubisoft based the PAL release on the JP game engine with the US translation - so we get the version that works as it should
I find myself curiously amused by the fact that we get an RPG that actually plays faster than the US version

Re: anyone played gradia2?? cos it out on ps2 (1 decade ago)
I've heard the PAL release of Grandia II for PS2 is better than the US one, but I can't find a site listing the differences - anyone know anything about this?
Re: XENOSAGA! (1 decade ago)
heheh, down boy
Just so long as Sony don't pull a Square and decide there's too much translation and too little market...
Still, if this sells well - who knows, Square may even decide to cash in and release Xenogears in PAL too

Re: XENOSAGA! (1 decade ago)
Has anyone heard any rumours about this getting picked up by a distributor for the PAL regions yet?
Re: anyone played gradia2?? cos it out on ps2 (1 decade ago)
I've heard that there is very little in the way of improvements in the PS2 version.
I actually managed to pick up a second hand DC + VMU + used copy of game for around the same price as the PS2 price tag. This had the added bonus of being able to pick up Skies of Arcadia and Jet Set Radio at the same time
YMMV

This could well be the game that makes me crumble and buy an Xbox.
Re: Do you still play PlayStation games ? (1 decade ago)
I gave my PSOne to my cousin at the weekend, so I don't play on the PSX any more.
But it's been about a week since any PS2 games got played on my PS2... Recently I've been playing FFVI and my wife has been playing Breath of Fire IV

Re: What's your favorite Anime? (1 decade ago)
Mine has to be Serial Experiments: Lain.
I love that show
Evangelion also kicks bottom (hmmm, have to finish my collection at some point...)

Re: HDD and Adapter (1 decade ago)
I'll be picking it up as soon as FFXI is available (possibly when another MMORPG is available, if FFXI is really slipping until 2004 in PAL)
